RMT as an Attack Vector

Without being affected by the bans myself, I’d like to point out here that not everyone who’s been singled out is guilty. Without getting into the fact that RMT is a sort of gray area for some players in this community, RMT can be used to harm other users.

This is my personal experience:
I’ve only been on this server for a short time and am lucky that part of my Turtle community has settled on Octo. So I didn’t think twice when former teammates and guildmates offered me support. A little gold for the first spells, gear, and items is, for me and many others, a natural way to get started.

I don't see that as a rule violation.
A rule violation occurs when you spend money (or other forms of real life payment) to buy shortcuts or services.
In my case, 500g (and three eggs) ended up in my mailbox. That seemed strange to me, and since no one in the guild chat or on Discord claimed responsibility, I opened a ticket.
Fortunately, as it turned out yesterday.

Whether this stems from past gratitude or malicious intent, I can’t say for sure, but the issue exists, and I want to raise awareness about it.

I seem to recall a previous thread where this subject was discusses and Kestrel stated that small things like this would not raise any flags and they generally end up with multiple points of evidence before any action is taken. That being said, false positives do happen.

In your case of randomly receiving 500g, I think the right call is to make a ticket, so well done there. Would everyone else have the wherewithal to make that call, or just count their lucky stars for what seems like someone else's mistake? Probably not.

Well, false positive ban possible. Like IRL, if you get money at your bank account by someone's mistake or bank mistake, in any case bank will took it back. Even if, according to your laws in your country, it became your money, first the bank will take it back (even if you have already spent it), and then you will have to prove in court that, according to your laws, the bank is wrong. So it will takes time, but, like in your case, you get money, you call "bank support" and avoid spending time. It's more not about system, but about rationality and morality. If someone from your friends will send you such amount of gold - for sure you will have logs at in-game chat or can make ss from discord/other, also if it's your friend there will be other activity between yours characters and even accounts. So I don't see a problem with this system. Did you receive random money? Be honest. And there won't be any problems. Are you trying to slip into a "gray zone," as someone else wrote at other topic? Get banned and then prove that you're not a camel.

It's not, you don't have to worry about that sort of thing. They do look at stuff like guild / friend connections.

It's not really a gray area. The people engaging in that stuff know they're breaking the rules. They're just used to Blizzard looking the other way.
