It would look completely different.

I'd recommend trying to do that internally.

These hypotheticals that are being brought up are being brought up by people breaking the rules in order to try and shift goalposts and make it so that the devs won't punish them because of some alleged plausible deniability and it's really transparent. I'll be honest, it's a Dunning-Kruger effect. People that think they're extremely smart, and assume everyone else is dumb-- and it's insulting to be honest. The fact that you people think anyone is falling for these weird narratives/hypotheticals is insulting. You realize they ban the gold seller and the gold buyer, right?

So you're going to level up an account, farm gold on it, then send that gold to someone so that both of you get banned? Come on.

The attack vector argument being made is that I would visit chynasellsgold.com, I'd pay for 1k gold, and have it sent to your toon.

Please do. My in-game name is Lemonsquatz. Just like what was said in that post you're referring to, I will report it to a GM without opening 1k gold from a random person and then come back here to laugh that you wasted the money.

That's not what happened in this case, they posted items on the AH.

I'm not sure you understand how COD works. You would be sending the copper bar and COD it for 1k Gold. If it ended up sent to a Gold Seller and they accepted the COD for you to receive the 1k Gold, then I would imagine that's easy for GMs to see.

If you meant COD a Copper Bar for 1K Gold to a random person to be a troll and they accept it not knowing, then I would hope you get banned. The rules call out "scamming" without outlining this specific behavior, but it's still scamming and probably falls under the rules Disclaimer that "Please note that this list may not cover all types of behavior. We reserve the right to modify, update, or adjust this document at any time. The GM team may take different actions than those specified in these terms of use, as they are entrusted to use their discretion in unique situations."

Edited a bit: Apologies Terribletank, I mistook you for the OP.

Folks used to run the COD "scam" on Twow all the time, send you something for 1k gold, hope you are using an addon that just opens it, or you just click though it without looking, and they get your gold. Im not arguing the scam element per se, again the concerning angle is if:

I pay mmochynagold.com for 1k gold, i claim i'm you, and have to gold sent to you in game. From admins perspective you bought gold, when really i bought gold to get you banned.

I didnt play TWoW but I believe it. From what I heard TWoW also didn't ban for RMT. What I've gathered is that OctoWoW is very passionate about player experience, while I havent seen any Ban Appeals for this scam (from a scammer I mean), that doesn't mean they don't/won't is what I meant.

Sure, if you accept the 1K Gold from a stranger. You are here questioning whether this is bannable, and I would assume most people would as well and immediately raise the red flag. Your question is not just that simple though, they actually have to do something with the gold (accept it is something) and say nothing to no one. I personally don't feel like a player being targeted would be that dumb to say nothing. That was my point.

We've also seen how much time Kestrel puts into reviewing every appeal. I feel like even if I did nothing, said nothing, and the gold stayed in my mailbox; I feel that even if I got caught in an automated ban wave because of this, I have a favorable chance on appeal. This has yet to happen though.

I genuinely appreciate the well intentioned challenges to our process, and attempt to make sure that we are avoiding catching any innocent players up in our RMT actions. It is important that the community does this and challenges how we do things, we are not infallible and can make mistakes, and are always looking to improve our processes.

There is a somewhat real attack vector that we are aware of and have methods to detect it. I do wish I could say more than that on the matter but some of our methods are important to keep obfuscated. All I can really do it confirm that we would be able to tell the difference between genuine buys and any sort of "set up".

We really do value transparency where possible. Our fight in RMT is an area where transparency is tricky though and we hope that the community is able to continue to trust us and that we are coming at this from an objective and fair perspective. Also one that guarantees (as much as possible) that mistakes will be identified and made right if/when they are made <3

1st of all
never accept anything from strangers (especially gold or something valuable)

apart from that
if by accident or addon, you accepted something via mail
How hard is it to IMMEDIATELY inform the GM's about it and ask to remove the gold/item?
Seems pretty simple to me
