It makes for a much easier conversation lol.Ciggitybutts wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 11:47 pm While this may be true, you know another company fully capable. One that loves to just post random gibberish.

Occams Razor. Raven put out an announcement before they launched calling Octowow "AI slop". I have a screenshot of their website, there are YouTube videos showing it as well if you don't trust screenshots as much which nowadays is fair. They had said they expected 2500-3500 players at launch. Then they launched to only 500 people.Ocdonotsteal wrote: Sun Sep 06, 2026 4:21 pm The real issue is without definitive proof, speculation is just going to inflame the community and cause discontent. We just have to a bit of faith in the people running this to work it out. When this is over and as time passes, this will have felt like such a short period of the server's life. Afford some patience, everyone is stressed, especially those who have to work on solving it. We will hold.
Nah, don't apologize, and I have my own theories too. Kestrel already jossed one last fireside chat. I agree with your sentiment, but blind unfocused malice towards a nebulous target when we have nothing but impotent rage to fight with just isn't going to accomplish anything, you know? Wasted energy, and people are already very riled up as it is.Defiant wrote: Sun Sep 06, 2026 5:41 pmOccams Razor. Raven put out an announcement before they launched calling Octowow "AI slop". 24 hours later the DDoS attacks start.
Lets be clear here man, there will *never* be definitive proof due to the nature of DDoS attacks.
But Ravencraft started off their interactions with the pserver community by verbally attacking Octowow and their competition. That was a massive red flag when I saw it. I distinctly remember thinking that whoever is running it clearly isn't very mature or professional. Because to me, if you're going to announce your project, you talk about your project-- you don't attack others. Stand on your own laurels, ya know?
I cannot say with 100% certainty that Ravencraft is behind it but that's not going to stop me from talking about how it's a 99.9% likelihood. If it's not Raven, they're still the kind of immature and unprofessional people that would attack other projects in their launch announcement so I think it's fair to call them out in general and steer people away from their server. I also think there's a very legitimate reason to warn people, because do you really want to be running software on your PC by a group that participates in botnet DDoS attacks? Maybe it's not Ravencraft, but it sure as hell seems like it. When Octowow launched I warned people about it. I said we just can't know, that people should wait a bit and make sure it's legitimate. I have that exact feeling about Raven but an order of magnitude higher.

At this point just give us the IP-range to point our LOIC at.....Kestrel wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2026 6:11 pm No big updates today, buckle up for the weekend. Hope to have access to the new servers Monday (if they are able to set them up without the port upgrade).
Yeah, I heard Kestrel mentioned it could be gold sellers. I respect that he doesn't want to name Raven. That's the kind of management that I appreciate. Not to beat a dead horse but it's the opposite of Ravencraft attacking their competition at launch, right. Kestrel blaming Raven would be a bad look because there's no concrete evidence.Ocdonotsteal wrote: Sun Sep 06, 2026 5:50 pmNah, don't apologize, and I have my own theories too. We just need to be careful of what kind of assault we lead, bubby. As a private server, our reputation is one of our most valuable assets. I think how you discuss it is perfectly acceptable, but there have been a lot of rage machines floating around. If it is Raven, they will reap what they sow, and what they've sown hasn't been so grand. If it's someone else, I have faith there will be karmic justice. I just don't want our community to suffer undue reputational harm. Frankly, no, I don't trust or support Raven, and I hope they disappear into the dust they came from. They don't need any help from us to achieve that. My own personal schizo theory? If I were some dude with a hateboner for the server, I would absolutely use Raven's release as a convenient smokescreen. Until we have solid answers, which may never come, I don't think surface level hatemongering is helping us. This is just a generalization, I've seen how you post, you come off as a balanced person.Defiant wrote: Sun Sep 06, 2026 6:18 pmYeah, I heard Kestrel mentioned it could be gold sellers. But people do need be made aware of the details. I've spoken to a lot of people who were not aware that Ravencraft accused Octowow of being AI slop for example. I've also spoken to a lot of people that didn't realize the DDoS started within 24 hours of Ravencraft launching. Can we prove it's them? Nope. But people should be aware of the details. I personally think there are just too many coincidences for it to not be Raven. I'm not going to yell and shout at someone who disagrees with me, but I do want people to be aware of all the details.
Yeah that's fair.Ocdonotsteal wrote: Sun Sep 06, 2026 6:28 pm We just need to be careful of what kind of assault we lead,
I agree, but I also think that in order for that to happen people need to be clear about what their role in this likely is. If people aren't aware they're the most likely culprit, who knows.
I get it, and I feel like a lot of the astroturfing has been from Raven. There's been what I feel is a coordinated effort to attack Octowows reputation while the DDoS occurs. That's one of the reasons I feel the need to "set the record straight" so to speak.Ocdonotsteal wrote: Sun Sep 06, 2026 6:28 pm I just don't want our community to suffer undue reputational harm.
