I am not claiming that someone from OctoWoW should host the application. I asked whether they might know of a tool worth recommending. This is a fundamental difference and requires only reading with understanding. I decided to write because I see that someone has once again created another account on Discord, and history tends to repeat itself, which will likely result in another account closure in the near future.Berdal wrote: Wed Sep 09, 2026 8:43 am As far as accommodating the players, I don't think the octo devs should or need to offer more than their website/forum and client. Of course the forum needs a major overhaul. It's unfortunately riddled with bugs. And when/if the devs transition us to the UE5 client down the line, that also allows for in-game voice chat I believe.
The community, on the other hand, should host anything they want outside that scope.
You can actually host whatever you want, as long as you keep the rules and laws in your country in mind. If you want something secure, it's even recommended to host yourself - this will come at a cost however (literally). I hosted a TeamSpeak for my friends, but if you really want something that can't be taken down, you also need a hoster (maybe even you?) who can guarantee that it stays up.Znachor wrote: Wed Sep 09, 2026 9:53 amI am not claiming that someone from OctoWoW should host the application. This should be pinned.Kestrel wrote: Wed Sep 09, 2026 4:01 am Just to re-iterate and state some things we thought were already apparent.
We feel very secure at the moment about the longevity of our project. We have not seen anything that would jeopardize the project long term, and as long as there is an anonymous community to continue to hold the distributed backups that we make daily, this server will live on. We still have all 8 Knowledge Keepers.
We do rely on FlokiNet to host our servers. We do not rely on FLokiNet to keep us anonymous or to keep our game backed up. If FlokiNet tomorrow was purchased by Blizzard just to get to us, they would have no more information than an email address and the servers (with multiple layers of encryption) that themselves contain no identifying information about any involved developers/contributors.
We cannot make statements about potential legal action against other servers as we have no more insight into that than anyone else. Legal actions like the ones we received are only public if the parties make them public. We can only say that we have received attention and our structure ensured that we are protected.
Thats good news, and with these 24/7 ddos attacks we are in need of some.Kestrel wrote: Wed Sep 09, 2026 4:01 am Just to re-iterate and state some things we thought were already apparent.

I just downloaded it, its called Stoat now. On the surface at least, they mean business. Definitely among the top if not the top temporary solution to the discord issue. Here's the link to the websiteBohatyr7 wrote: Wed Sep 09, 2026 7:53 am Have you considered using an open-source, self-hosted alternative to Discord? I don’t want to promote anything, but “Revolt” offers the closest user experience. Personally, I don’t even like Discord—I used Teamspeak many years ago—but for most people here, it would be an easy transition to something that looks and works more or less the same as Discord, while still maintaining that “touch” of privacy.
