It's not just about the visuals. The vanilla client is 22 years old now and doesn't run well on modern hardware (stutters, frame drops, memory limit crashes). The client they were developing had a classic graphic mode for people who preferred the classic look but it (if finished) still offered better performance and addon support and overall a more polished experience. VS having to deal with all these modded exes plus DLL and binary patches conflicting with each other causing crashes and bugs and addons all doing their own UI things instead of being standardized.

It's bugged af rn. There is 2 addons for it and they also bugged af. I agreed that 1.12 is like me - already should be dead, but still working. And I waited for Unreal from twow time. But now they are way to far from what could be called even beta. Ofc we can use this ddos time for going there and help with finding bugs, but there is vanilla: no helf/belf, classes are halfdone, etc.

I tried the Unreal client. It's surprising how much works and how close to vanilla it looks.
But for now it's very slugish and feels kinda bad. There are a bunch of addons AFAIK, but... I don't know man, it needs a lot of work still. Maybe one day.
