Whats the deal with some people online?

Is there any reason why there's clearly some people online but when me and some friends try to log we stuck at connecting and just DC?

I say this because clearly from the guild relay of world chat there's some 100~ ppl on the HC server.


I mostly want to understand is this an IP lock thing or a temporary solution to limit people? Mostly curious even though I'd obviously love to be able to login.

the DDOS attacks are, in nature, a bunch of packet requests to the server to clog it up and choke it out. The reason you're having issues is you're likely trying to connect during these attacks and then timing out as possibly distance between you and server location are already strained, with the attacks pushing the send/receive time past the point of timeout for you.

I think logins are batched so an initial wave of people gets in, they get DC'd and the process repeats with varying times in-between. Some people get in, some people don't. It has gotten so bad there is literally no point in even trying.
