Low-Level Itemization Balance

Hi everyone, this is ported over from the Turtle WoW forums just before the plug got pulled. This is just a list of lower level items that I felt were either poorly tuned or completely redundant with other items. Turtle WoW was doing some item tuning in its later patches, so I started a list of items worth looking at again.

Feel free to recommend some of your own.


Ancient Legplates vs. Quilguard Leggings
Same stat-spread, but quilguard is much worse despite being a higher ilvl. In this case, quilguard is a little undertuned, but if you're going to tune it to the level of ancient leggings, I think the stat spread should also be differentiated slightly. Maybe int or spirit instead of agility.

Wreath of Worgen Blood
An ilvl 42 quest reward with roughly level 30 stats. The belt reward from this quest also seems undertuned.

Mutant Scale Breastplate vs. Avenger's Breastplate vs. Shining Silver Breastplate
These 3 rares are all linear upgrades 1 level after another and feel like essentially the same item. It would be more interesting if there was a bit of diversity in this range, or at least inverting the values on the middle one so the stamina was higher.

Slaver's Gauntlets
ilvl 33 item with roughly level 26-27 stats.

Dragonmaw Helmet
I don't necessarily know if this item actually needs to be changed, but melee classes get 40 attack power from this item at level 29. That's probably BiS for a dozen specs until mid-40s. Just drawing attention to that lol

Batwing Mantle vs. Feline Mantle
Int/Spirit/Agi is an unusual stat spread that no one is really looking for, so it's especially strange that the next rare that upgrades Feline Mantle has the exact same spread (and is a little undertuned to boot)

Cook's Apron
I'm not sure how you rate hp5 on gear, but my guess is a little too high in this case. ilvl 46 item with somewhere between level 30-35 stats.

All of the "Knife Eared Stalkers" Quest Rewards
I think the rewards are a couple levels undertuned for the quest level.

Robe of Divinity vs. Robes of the Dukedom
Only 4 ilvls apart, but 19 stats and 2 spellpower differential. Robe of Divinity is a little undertuned at least, not sure if Robes of the Dukedom need to be changed.

Brigand's Pauldrons vs. Enforcer Pauldrons
Identical stats, ilvl, armor. Seems like a missed opportunity

Cloak of Draconic Madness
Slightly undertuned. ilvl 34 item with roughly level 30 stats.

Drakeflame Girdle
Rare instance of a slightly overtuned BoE. ilvl 30 item with roughly level 40 stats.

Helmet of Dun Kithas vs. Enduring Circlet
Helmet of Dun Kithas is slightly overtuned. Compared here with an item 3 levels higher, it's quite a bit better.

Mantis Boots
ilvl 40 quest reward with roughly level 30-32 stats

Stromgarde Cavalry Leggings
Slightly undertuned. ilvl 37 quest reward with roughly level 32 stats

Basilisk Scale Boots
Slightly undertuned. ilvl 34 item with roughly level 30 stats.

Felhoof Sabatons
Slightly overtuned. ilvl 29 item with roughly level 33 stats.
