Don't get me wrong, the Octo server is a pretty good representation of what Turtle WoW used to be... but it's missing something.
Just playing it brings back the feeling of "This used to be Turtle WoW, but it's not Turtle WoW anymore." Back then, the Turtle server gave me the sense of a relatively stable community, the feeling that we'd eventually get new content. The hype I felt seeing every changelog, every patch note, watching the updates, seeing new teasers and trailers, was what kept me hooked. Thinking things like, "Someday my character will visit Quel'Thalas," or "Oh wow, what will Grim Reaches be like?" or maybe "Wow, I want to explore Dragonmaw Retreat," were thoughts, ideas, and motivations that kept me playing.
Now they're simply... gone. Even though I have faith in the server, I know it will probably take longer to reach that stability and to show the new content. Just playing for the sake of playing isn't enough for me. I can't stand the idea of being stuck on the same patch, playing the same dungeons, leveling the same zones over and over again with alternate characters, and on top of that, the constant DDoS attacks just kill the experience.
And no, it's not because of Warcraft Forever. Even though it's an official Turtle clone, the new race isn't what I expected, and I don't feel like playing with a strange race that doesn't make sense in the lore. I was expecting high elves, and they didn't give them to me.
I'm simply going to take a break from WoW for a while. Maybe in the future I'll come back and check out OctoWoW, if they've released their first content patch, and I'll test the quality, but for now, I'm just bored.
