Others would play this because they actually want to feel like humans, that have devs that love the game they work on and like them instead of ones that despise you.
Big point to keep in mind.
A lot of the developers in these corpo-studios applied to them in the first place with what could be described as... Contempt towards the people that they are supposedly coming to work for.
You can pretty much see it on a daily basis. Developers/people in creative roles who simply either hate the people playing their games, or they simply don't care for what they are working on in the first place.
Recently watched a video about one of the Diablo 5 narrative leads (I think that was her role there?) who was exposed as being someone who simply has no love or care for videogames, and thinks that combat and gameplay is an obstacle to getting to the next bit of story and narrative.
... It probably doesn't take a genius to figure out why that might be a problem.
So yeah, Private Servers are ultimately great, because they're typically run by people who actually like the game and don't hate everything about it, or the people who frequent them.
There is always a story to be told, in the heart of the soul.
