Hello,

My chatban is almost over so no need to take action on that.
HOWEVER
I do wish to talk about how my ban came to pass.
Someone died to the naga on zoram strand in ashenvale, and i made the comment
"Goddamn Naga immigrants occupying the beaches at zoram"

GM Tarfr took this as me saying the n-word and gave me a 24 hour chatban.


I dont know what "Whyyoudothis" said at the time in chat, i was merely commenting on the death at zoram strand.
I'm not even white myself and i can actually speak african because i've been there.. i very much doubt that this GM can. And not all africans are n-words.. there are other skincolours in that continent aswell.

I too am against hate speech, if it's ment to hurt/hate someone or a group of people. But my text was not hate speech, it merely looked like something that people sometimes use to say the n-word.
And here comes my point..
We are on a pirate server.. an illegal server.. let's not pretend that the developers here are on the right side of history when it comes to earning an honest buck. In the pirate world people sometimes say things or behave certain ways that are more in line with freedom of speech than what blizzard developers would allow.
What are we .. in the UK? .. where if you say something that "can be intepreted as hatespeech" you get beat up by some policemen and thrown into jail? How about a little pirate courtesey and realising that EVEN if the n-word was ment.. which it wasnt.. i did not actually say the n-word and neither did i directly suggest n-word immigrants.
So the rule now is that you cannot say applepie because some group of people use that word sometimes to describe muslim terrorists? (bad example but you get my drift right)
If you are going to chat ban people for hatespeech, let it be real hatespeech and not some intepretation by some woke septumring blue-haired moderator from the UK with scuffed morals (not saying the banning moderator is that, just an example).
We are on a PIRATE SERVER AFTERALL.

No not at all, but this was not hate speech. And banning for an interpretation is a slippery slope.
Maybe on a pirate server rules like freedom of speech could be applied in a more sensible fashion considering the societal norms of the pirate community.

I don't see this as a misinterpretation of the comment, the meaning was implied and it was interpreted in the way that it was implied

You speak african? You are aware that Africa is a continent, and that there are no such thing as "speaking african" right? I don't "speak european" either. I'm not saying you are lying, but the way you phrase seems at best ignorant, from someone who claims to speak an african language.
Also what do you mean that you are only against hate speech if the INTENTION is the hurt a group of people? While I am a staunch proponent for considering intention and generally context in legal, ethical and moral questions, hate speech is by definition meant to hurt people. You can't do hate speech for fun.

and if it was, banning for it is a stretch and a signal that anyone can attach meaning to a word and abuse it.

If for example i now start a trend that saying orc means muslim.. are we gonna ban the use of the word orc?
and if orc gets banned, and i swap the trend to undead meaning muslim, are we gonna ban the use of the word undead?

And yesterday, while i was chatbanned, there was a whole feast in chat on hating on french people, and yet nobody got banned for it. French people were specificly mentioned in a negative point of view.
Is that not considered hate speech then? why are we allowed to make fun of french people, german people and other european people openly.. but when you say naga.. it's intepreted as n-word and bannable.
Does this mean there is a politically motivated two-tier system of moderation, and if so can this be further defined so the limits of what can be made fun of becomes more clear for the average player to not break the rules?

ofcourse i don't really believe this personally, but technically these questions do arise when you ban for one thing and not the other.. even thou they are both.. which is why i would default on me earlier statement whereas this is a pirate server and thus chat moderation should be taken into consideration that speech is free. Direct hatespeech should be banned.. intepretations should be kept just that.. an intepretation by a human individual .. in a world with many different perspectives.

Yes i speak african.. and yes i know it is a continent.. and if you had any knowledge about this subject you would know that south africa's national language is called "afrikaans" .. or in english "african".
That is the language i speak and south africa is a nation, not a continent.

South africa dropped their native languages zulu, xhosa and various other native languages when the portuguese colonized south africa. Then when portugal lost their colonies to the dutch VoC empire, many dutch farmers went and colonized south africa further. Which is why south africa has so many white people called "boers" (meaning farmers in dutch) and their national language became Afrikaans (which sounds very much like the dutch language with a strong dialect).

Nothing here is news to me, except that you now call the nation South Africa, instead of just "africa" and that you elaborate on the language afrikaan, which no, is not called african in English, it's called the same. But from someone who think hate speech can be ok in circumstances where the intention is "good??????", it's not a leap to assume they made a bunch of shit up to say cover their racism.

I've let it go already, i sat out the chat ban without fighting it, but i find this an interesting topic to discuss as it has affected my relationship to the server. Why does that matter? because i enjoy places of free speech and don't mind spending my money there as im sure there are others like me.
Issues like this makes me think there is a political bias in the moderation and forms a barrier in me (and maybe) others spending money on the cash shop.

Since i like the server, and i want to see it grow, and i feel like the effort of the admins deserve to be rewarded..
I made this topic to adress this issue.

Also i now noticed, after having relogged just an hour ago.. that my account now has an official warning attached to it when i log in.. This warning wasn't there before when i got chatbanned, and was not there after my chatban was expired.
Meaning an admin made a deliberate action to attach a warning to my account.
i find this very.. strange to see.

And i sure hope the admins are responsible enough to not interfere in my gameplay further to demonstrate their anger about this topic.

Where in the Octo Constitution does it say you have the right to free speech? People act like their GM-given rights are trampled anytime they're punished for breaking a rule. Oppression! Fascism! The GMs are paid by <insert nation state I don't like>!
