I'm gonna choose to believe starting this early is a sign of desperation.

Has seemed pretty tame so far. A few minutes of bad lag, and then... nothing. Is that the effect of mitigation strategies, or are the attacks fizzling out?

Curious question(s):

Is this actually expensive for whoever is doing it? I mean, what's the money cost?

If it's this easy to kill websites and servers, why aren't all manner of other sites seeing much more persistent attacks?

It is very cheap to do. The thing is, its also illegal and a very serious crime in all parts of the world, that's why people don't do it. However, when you are running a private server, you don't exactly have these protective laws on your side.

From the little bit of searching I've done, it costs them basically nothing. Maybe $10 an hour. More if it's a more advanced attack I guess.
