The Greedy Goblin / Goldbound Challenge

Hello dear Octu Wow team,

I’d like to expand on the challenge idea I previously discussed with a GM.

The Greedy Goblin / Goldbound Challenge

The idea is to create an optional Solo Self-Found challenge focused entirely on gold.

When starting the challenge, you receive a special companion/item: the Greedy Goblin.

This little goblin follows you throughout your adventure and, naturally, wants to get paid. Every time you want to gain your next level, you have to pay the goblin a progressively increasing amount of gold.

The higher your level, the more expensive it becomes.

The challenge is not about restricting your gear, talents, or how you play your character. You can use whatever gear you find or obtain yourself. The entire challenge revolves around one thing:

How efficiently can you make and manage gold without anyone else helping you?

The Greedy Goblin could also help you

To make the goblin more than just a gold sink, he could occasionally provide small bonuses or unlock upgrades.

For example:

+10% gold from loot
+20% gold when selling items to vendors
Occasional small gold-related perks
Special milestones as you continue paying him

This creates an interesting relationship: the goblin takes your money, but he can also help you become better at making money.

The important part: Solo Self-Found

The challenge should be SSF, because otherwise players could simply receive gold from another character and completely bypass the idea.

No trading, no receiving gold from other players, and no outside financial help.

The challenge should be about building your own little gold-making economy from nothing.

Mount should be free or the summoned Mounts for Warlock/Paladin should have the same price to make it fair.

There should also be a unique reward for completing the challenge, such as a title:

<The Greedy>
<Goldhand>
<Goldbound>
<Goblin's Favorite>

Something fun and recognizable that tells other players:

"Yes, I actually leveled this character by paying a greedy goblin every single level."

I think the biggest appeal of this challenge is that it makes you experience the game completely differently.

Normally, gold is something you need along the way. With this challenge, gold IS your progression.

Suddenly every repair, flight, consumable, vendor purchase, and potential gold-making opportunity matters. Players would have to constantly think about how to maximize their income and minimize unnecessary spending.

I think this could be a really fun optional challenge for players who want to experience the game from a completely different, highly economic perspective — without imposing arbitrary gear restrictions or changing the normal combat gameplay.

Optional Expansion: The Goblin's Daily Deals

If the team wanted to take the idea further, the Greedy Goblin could have a rotating selection of daily special offers.

Because the character is Solo Self-Found and cannot trade with other players, the goblin could buy certain items for significantly more than their normal vendor value.

For example:

Certain raw fish: 10 per day for a much higher price
Specific cooked dishes: 5–10 per day for a gold bonus
Certain potions or consumables: limited daily quantities at premium prices
Materials from gathering professions
Other items that are normally worth very little but require effort to obtain

The offers could rotate every day, so players would have to adapt to whatever the goblin is looking for.

For example, one day he might say:

"I need 10 Swiftthistle Potions! I'll pay 50 silver each!"

The next day he might want a specific type of fish, cooked food, or gathering material instead.

This could make every profession useful for the challenge, not just for crafting gear. Fishing, cooking, alchemy, gathering, etc. could all become potential ways of generating additional income.

It would also create a nice daily decision:

"What is the goblin buying today, and what's the most profitable way for me to make my next level's gold?"

This isn't necessary for the basic challenge — the core idea should remain simple: SSF + pay gold to level up.

But if you wanted to expand the system, I think the Greedy Goblin could become a really fun little economic companion that gives the entire challenge its own identity.

Anyways Love Octo wow
