As multiple people have already stated, the GM is responding to your specific scenario.
False, the GM is stating the looting rules of the server they have to adhere to in every "player dispute scenario" as they explained (For example, not telling the healer at the start of the dungeon that they should not need on a 2h strength sword over the dps players if it ever drops)
At this point after so many replies, like 90% are completely focused on the pants despite being completely irrelevant to what the GM explicitly explained about ninja looting as a general server rule, and the other 10% either agree with the gm proclaiming ninja looting as part of the "classic experience" or are gaslighting themselves into thinking the same server looting rules explained by the GM wouldn't apply in a more "extreme" case of ninja looting, like the example I just gave, which doesn't even make sense.
Nobody has been able to disprove anything because, at the end of the day, it's their word against the objective looting rules given by the GM. People with common sense will be able to understand why this approach to moderation is bad the moment they read the GM's response in the screenshots, or they'll change their opinion the moment one of those "extreme ninjaloot" cases happens and the GM gives them exactly the same response the OP received. There's no point in continuing to discuss this topic.

Yes. Objectively yes. The healer should be aiming for +healing not +spellpower.

Oh, so you ARE capable of act-

Yes no one is addressing your irrelevant pointless hypothetical because that isnt what happened. What happened is a mid 30s Prot Paladin rolled on mail spellpower gear which would actually be HIS bis and a healer decided to roll on it. Now, if it was an upgrade for the healer it was an upgrade and they should roll-- however you keep bringing up what's best for classes and Im sorry but spellpower is not bis for healers. Healing power is.
Nevermind, more grifting...
And, yet another one completely missing the point...
I guess I need to explain vanilla itemization to you. I guess you never played Vanilla, Classic, or Twow.
Spellpower does include healing. Healingpower only includes healing. Healingpower is generally 50% additional healing power on each item than spellpower. Here let me show you an example.
The picture shows the exact same item, the T1 Paladin Helm, the Retribution set, Protection set, and the Holy set. Notice how the Healing stat is 50% more than the Spellpower? That's how vanilla healing itemization works. Notice how both the Ret and Prot specs have Spellpower and Intellect?
You talked all this talk about Mages BIS, prioritizing Bows/Guns to Hunters. Well I'm sorry, those leggings are not healer leggings. Period. End of story. They're CASTER leggings. Can a healer use them? Sure. Like I said above, if it's an upgrade for the healer they should roll on it. However, since you were talking about BIS, this is 100% a case where if you would do that for the Hunter/Mage you should be supporting the Prot Paladin that was in your group. Instead you falsely reported him and by the sounds of it threw a hissy fit and destroyed your entire group over your own ignorance
I was being nice-- but you're a fucking idiot dude. You've had numerous people tell you this. You have clearly done no research. You clearly don't understand basic vanilla itemization let alone Turtle/Octos class changes. Because to be clear the distinction between spellpower gear and healing gear isn't a custom change. This is how every Vanilla and Classic server is-- and you didn't know that. Again, it's YOUR ignorance over and over and over again, and instead of educating yourself you get angry at others.

Again to be absolutely clear, the idiot you're defending wanted a GM to steal loot from someone and give it to his friend. That's the reality here mate. The normal rules are group loot where you either "need" items you need, or you "greed" items that you don't. The Paladin clearly did need those. They were clearly an upgrade. No rules were broken.
If you want to stray from that, then you need a player agreement ahead of time, as the GM stated.
GMs will not steal loot for you or your friends. Sit down kid.
And you talk about common sense? Anyone with common sense would see that no rules were broken, and that what they were asking the GM to do is steal loot. So the GM provided them with the rules so that they would understand GMs won't steal loot for you.
I feel bad for that Paladin. Imagine being in that group. You roll on some awesome leggings, and the entire group falls apart because some retail player crashes out not understanding that Spellpower and Int are *huge* for Paladins on this server.

Imagine knowing fuck all about USB types, reporting a guy for taking a charger because you think it's the wrong connector for his device, when it's actually the correct one. Management can't be bothered or doesn't have time to teach you USB standards and gives you a generic "no agreed priority" response.
You then spend the rest of the day telling everyone to just take whatever fucking charger they want, regardless of whether they can use it, because management said it's allowed. All the while insisting people need to stop focusing on the misunderstanding of USB types because "that's beside the point."

The fact that this is your first post on the forums makes this even funnier. 10/10.

The pivot of "The pants are irrelevant!" was kinda funny. Primarily because understanding what the pants were and how they contribute to a Paladin as a whole is fairly vital information to have. Even if the OP disagreed.

Hello, players of OctoWow!
Did you know that apparently ninja looting is completely fine?
I was playing Stormwrought Ruins with a party, and [Pants of Forgotten Ages] drops, a healer item.
Our DPS paladin (which was prot spec for some reason) rolls Need and wins it over our healer.

(Our party was full cloth besides the healer, and the one DPS paladin)
So naturally I opened up a ticket to get this issue resolved, and get the healer their pants.
And the answer I received from the GM surprised me, and it will probably surprise you too:
"If no loot rules were established before the run began, this is considered a player dispute and Support cannot intervene"
Naturally, the party disbanded immediately after, because no one wanted to keep playing with a ninja.
So hit Need every time, unless someone says "don't ninja loot" and has a screenshot to back it up, because you are allowed!
(I didn't think I'd need to clarify, but this is FIGURATIVE speech)
PS: If you can't read the text in the screenshots, here are the direct links:

Moral of the story: Only play with your guild and or friends
why did the healer NEED on a dps item?

This is my favorite read on here so far. OP is just totally oblivious to how the custom content works here and refuses to learn anything new, resulting in a cyclical argument where dozens of people try to explain the new mechanics to him and he plugs his ears and goes "nananana I can't hear you, but what about this random other thing that means nothing to the situation" haha.
