when you contact GM and to obtain unfair gains, it seriously impacts the fairness of the game. If Kestrel hadn’t found out, who knows what might have happened? For fairness, I hope all players are given two chances.

To be fair he was given a second chance and the first thing he did was ask for the item back. /shrug

I don't know if you're a player or a GM, but please look at the full facts carefully before you speak. I never tried to get the Orange Hammer back. The only thing I wanted was to recover the materials that my guild legally pooled gold to buy for me.
When this incident happened, right after I logged in, B contacted me on an alternate account to tell me our situation had been exposed. That was when I first found out my Orange Hammer was deleted. All I said to B in our private conversation was: I don't expect the GM to return the Orange Hammer to me, but if they could just give me back the legally obtained materials, that would be enough — at least all my guildmates' hard work wouldn't be completely wasted.
You didn't even bother to read the full context, and you're already extremely biasedly telling everyone I deserve a permanent ban? You're the one going around spreading that B was fired. He lost his official account, so he made a new personal alt to message me privately about all of this. I know perfectly well I caused him trouble, even cost him his job — I feel terrible about it, I deeply regret everything I put him through.
I don't care about the Orange Hammer at all. But I believe B deserves to be protected. He is also trapped in this public opinion storm right now, and I just want to minimize the impact of this whole incident as much as possible. He is from Hawaii, I am from China — we are from completely different parts of the world, we didn't even know each other before this. We only connected because of how genuine and straightforward he was through all of this.

Why is Bushdoctor also allowed to continue to play on the server?

He is on a new character called Millhouse, also still in the PANDA guild.

Bushdoctor's account was an official GM account. When he lost his job, he naturally lost all access to that account. That's why he created a regular player alt to message me privately.
Didn't he become a GM in the first place because he loves this game? Just because he lost his position as a GM, does that mean he no longer deserves to play the game he's passionate about?
It was his kindness towards me that cost him his job. Now he just wants to keep enjoying the game he loves on his new personal account. Naturally I wanted to invite him to our guild, and become friends with him.

This is a situation we had prepared for, but hoped would never happen.

We onboarded a new GM, Bushdoctor, on June 3rd. They were given the usual GM onboarding documents which include instructions on how they should interact with the community, explanations of our internal auditing procedures and policies, an explanation of our GM tooling/dashboard, and instructions to report anytime you need to use a command that may call into question what was happening.

Our internal auditing runs every 3 days to ensure things are clean, and is run manually more frequently after onboarding new GMs. Our last GM audit ran clean on June 6th and we went back to the 3 day audit schedule. Shortly after that last audit ran, Bushdoctor began to act much more generously (we use the word generously because it is accurate, not as a judgement positive or negative) towards players. In total the following items/gold where given out over the course of 48 hours.

Sulfuron Ingot x 5
Arcanite Bar x 10
Ironfoe x 1
Zebra x1
Blindweed x1
17.5g across 3 players

After reviewing the chat logs, all but one of these players were naive, their items/gold/mount have been removed. The Hand of Ragnaros that was crafted with these materials (along with the title) was also removed.

One of these players was not naive, Meatgrinder. This player knew what they were doing, requested the materials, crafted the hammer, then lied about it to the community and GM's. We have issued a 7 day ban on the account that owns Meatgrinder, and will not be restoring any materials used to craft the hammer (potentially a permanent ban, barring internal discussions and community feedback). Hello GM, I am Meatgrinder, the party involved in this incident.
I believe the comments on the forum are filled with extreme bias. 90% of people there are calling for my account to be permanently banned, but as a player, I truly believe this punishment is far too severe.
I fully admit that I did conceal information and lie about what happened. My only reason for doing so was that I hoped there would be room to recover the materials my guild members legally pooled their gold to buy for me — I just did not want all my guildmates' hard work to be completely wasted. I lied because I wanted to leave a little room for negotiation.
What I regret most of all is that this entire incident caused Bushdoctor to lose his job. You can review the chat logs between me and his alternate account. I told him I did not care about the Orange Hammer at all — all I wanted was for him to be able to keep playing the game he loves. When he created his new player alt, I invited him to our guild, because I hoped we could go raiding and play together in the future. But now he is no longer in the guild, and I have no way to contact him. This hurts far more than losing the Orange Hammer ever could.
I am a Chinese player. The fact that a piece of in-game equipment caused my friend from Hawaii to lose his income and his job has kept me awake for two straight days. Right now it is 5:38 AM in China, and I still cannot sleep properly. All I can think about is him losing his job, and the fact that I have no way to reach him or make this right. I do not even know if there is any way to remedy this.
According to the GM's statement on the forum, my account is currently in a "suspended death sentence" status. If the forum and community outcry continues to go against me, I will almost certainly be permanently banned. I truly feel this is completely unfair. This is my first ever offense, and a permanent ban is far too severe a punishment.
I take full responsibility for my mistake, and I will accept any reasonable punishment. But I beg you, please do not permanently ban me. Please give a first-time offender a chance to correct his mistakes.
