Turtle wow enabled it on the PvE realm, and thus forced any cross realm implementation to contend with it.

Our options are simply to either;
A.) Ignore the cries of the PvP realm and never implement cross realm(we did consider this repeatedly)
B.) Tell hundreds of players on an already fully cross faction server that they can no longer play battlegrounds with their friends
C.) Force minimal cross faction for those on the PvP realm, upsetting those who don't want to have a human priest next to their orc warrior (understandable)
D.) Add a separate likely DoA "non-cross faction" queue for the PvP realm to opt out of cross realm/faction.
E.) Limit cross realm to AV only so that no cross faction is necessary, still leaving most of the PvP population issues on the table
F.) Limit cross realm to a single battleground that rotates regularly, so those not wanting the feature can avoid that battleground for a day/week

Of course if there is some other option that I am missing I would be curious to hear.

Right now we picked option C, and will be implementing option D SOONtm (next few days hopefully), but as stated, I suspect the vocal minority here who want to opt out of cross realm will be shocked to see the rest of the PvP server using it still for the lower queue times.

Option E is something we have talked about before as well, but leaves the same issue that option A does really.

Option F is something we wanted to do, but would have taken considerable additional development and we had to decide if it was worth delaying the feature entirely for. It will likely be explored more heavily in the subsequent weeks if there is still an interest. Although similar to option D, we have concerns that those yelling they will quit if they have to plan cross faction as not as populous as their voices may make them seem.

Please listen to me:
Crossfaction PvP on turtle had nothing or very little to do with friends playing together.
It had (and still has) 2 big reasons:
1) que time
2) faction and class distribution balance because the whole server is crossfaction

Crossfaction BGs were a HUGE win for the PvP scene on turtle. We had very imbalanced games before it. As a regular participant I can say it raised the quality of BGs (on Nordanaar/Ambershire) considerably!
Please take a look at the class/race distribution on Nzoth among battleground participants! Imagine the weird teams we would have without crossfaction.

This is because of crossfaction PvE, where factions don’t have stable populations of their own with a self regulating class distribution balance

Two days ago i had team of 7/9 warriors on ab, opposite team had 3/9 warriors.
Weird teams comes from players choices.
Warriors everywhere.
Make hamstring on cd again.

Same thing happens for palas (suddenly all are retri).

Yeah, regarding class prevalence/popularity.

Regardless of balance/performance, class prevalence can be influenced without changing class balance, by improving class fantasy and/or improve ability rotation or class toolkit.

Of course, that's not too say class prevalence is not because of class imbalance.

I don't see it as a big sacrifice to go back on Turtle's decision on crossfaction BGs.
It's a pretty big sacrifice. It was done for a few reasons primarily to improve queue times which I distinctly remember it doing.

I really don't think it's fair to the majority of the playerbase to increase their queue times just because the extremely low population PVP server community refuses to accept a perfectly functional solution.

They said they're going to add an optional non cross realm queue for Y'shaarj, so I guess we'll see if the majority of the PVP playerbase really support what Knifewrench and y'all are saying on the forums. I have a feeling that we'll see a lot of Y'shaarj players queueing cross realm.

Nothing can be done that appeases everybody when it comes to this stuff. Do you really think a majority of the PVP server are happy with hour long queues? I've personally known people who quit the PVP server and ended up coming to the PVE server and they were really bummed out about wasting all that time. I really can't understand why you people are so hell bent on having a dead server.

There are honestly so few active players on the PVP server at this point that I really don't know how relevant their collective voices are. A hundred or so people really shouldn't get to vote for horrible policies that ensure no one else ever joins the server. That's my opinion and it might sound rude but it is what it is.

There are so few of you, sorry, but it's not fair that a minority of players negatively impact the majority-- especially when there is a easy solution that you guys refuse to accept.
Tourni wrote: Sat Oct 24, 2026 1:48 pm This is blatantly ignoring the pvp realmers request of NO CROSS FACTION WHATSOEVER.
To be fair, there's like ten of you at this point. The server is struggling, and a PVP server with horrible BG queues isn't a good thing.

They made the right decision.

Do u understand that you are going to force a lot of people to put 30 days played time into the bin if you don't remove the Xfaction from the PvP server?
We voted for Xserver NOT Xfaction BGs!

Do people who choose PvP servers do so to play with cross‑faction players? No. Cross‑factionality is designed for players on PvE servers who want to play on battlefields with their beloved from the opposing faction. This perversion contradicts the spirit of the Warcraft. PvP server now exist for the convenience of PvE server, isn’t that right? It doesn’t matter what PvP players want — they’re fewer in number. Why is it still the case that players on PvP servers from opposing factions cannot “be friends” with each other on the fields of Alterac valley, as they do on Warsong or Arathi? This needs to be fixed so that PvE players are satisfied. Is this the kind of PvP server the Oktowow administration wants to see?

You claim that you want to improve the lives of players on the PvP server. On PvP servers, there is also the problem of finding people for elite quests, groups for dungeons, and raids. I propose that the next step be to add the ability for players on PvP servers to create cross‑faction groups. So that dwarves and tauren no longer fight each other when they meet, but wave and say hello, because tomorrow they will go together to the BWL raid. You say you want to make life easier for players on PvP servers? Then do it too. Or is that something else?

Try group queuing with 4 other YS friends. I was still getting instant pops and it reduces the chance of getting filled with xfaction. Assuming you have 4 friends to group with ;)

I wasn’t talking about class prevalence, I was talking about class distribution across factions.
Alliance has a lot more hunters and priests and horde has a lot more warlocks for example
