Today I updated the game through the launcher, and it completely broke my game. I was able to launch it through the files I had from the beta version, but once I got into the game, things weren’t loading properly.

The GM suggested doing a completely fresh installation, including everything, and I did that, but I’m still getting the exact same error. I’ve tried everything I can think of. A friend even gave me his files from before the update, when everything was working for him, and it still doesn’t work on my PC.

I’ve spent the entire afternoon trying to fix this, and honestly, I’m just giving up at this point.

Was all of this really necessary just for 5 extra quest log slots?

Holy shit, can you add throttle options to the launcher torrent client?
The client is a fricking bandwidth hog and some of us have family that uses the internet too.

ever since the update i got latency problems, constant 200-400ms from central eu. Any idea for possible fixes / what could help? it is a bit better in the mornings with less people online

We will add this in the next launcher update

This is because its trying to make the game folder in the root directory. Try making a folder and pointing the launcher at it

Hi, bad luck for me. i try all but its not going play many years Turtle. Wanna play Octo but its not going. Bad for me.

It seems the Client Upgrade changed also something with the routing of the server. Got many players from germany with telekom as carrier, who got 3000ping after the upgrade.. People with other carriers have no problem at all.

I updated the launcher and afterwards updated my game through the launcher.
My questlog is still limited at 20 though

The beauty of a 20 year old game is that it will run on a 15 year old video card. This patch does not.

OctoWow does not need to use Vulkan drivers which my video card does not have and never will. I investigated Vulkan while developing in Unity and the advantages are non existent (*in my opinion) and it only introduces compatibility problems.

If I was one of those people I'd have an Nvidia 5090 RTX and be playing fortnite or some shit... But I am not one of those people.

Just like a literary author, game developers must write for their audience. Please, please, please completely revert this patch so we can all play octowow again. (We can't afford to lose players.)

This is not good. I wish I had downloaded the old client zip so I could still play. I'm sad.


EDIT: I think my girlfriend may not have patched yet and I will try and copy her client files over to my machine and see if I can still login on the old client (she was able to last night...). I will try that and post the result.

EDIT2: Back in on the old client files copied from my girlfriend's unpatched install. Yay!

(I may have some time to help with octowow this winter - I've been here since the beginning. I used archie and gopher from a VAX/VMS SSH session on an AT client machine in 1990. If you know what that means, contact me if it gets really bad. I have fixed abandonware games multiplayer networking before.)
