Might not be just shaman. Basically when you target a totem you can't self heal, the mana goes nowhere and nothing gets healed. I accidentally targeted my totem after a fight and couldn't heal myself.
Not a big deal, but quite annoying

edit: maybe could see it as a function if you could heal a stoneclaw totem
