Unable to install launcher or use addons

I downloaded and tried to install the launcher. It looks like it installed and then .. nothing. I dont see anything anywhere to suggest that something installed.
I tried manually downloading the files and it worked and I was able to log in, but I could not get any addons to work. I downloaded the addons and placed them in the interface/addons folder like normal and none of them appeared to have loaded.
Please help, I want to play!
