Class Combo idea: Night Elf Mages (Elaborated)

We know that Night Elves and magic are a complex topic. However, the Highborne are a fundamental part of Night Elf history. By the time of "Classic" WoW, the Night Elf mages that still remain are the uncorrupted Shen'dralar within Eldre'Thalas, and I genuinely think there's huge potential to eventually add them in this Vanilla+ setting.
When I tried Twow, this was always one of the class combinations I wanted the most, and I know many other people felt the same. I'm a huge fan of Highborne culture and super passionate about the night elf empire era, but I never liked how they were implemented in retail. I think the introduction of playable Highborne should feel much more nuanced than simply "you are now in Darnassus and accepted just like that" (A lot of it was sadly explained in books instead of within the game)
They could have their own questlines and exist as a sort of sub-faction, with their own identity and tensions, similar to how other class combinations have unique lore weight behind them (for example human warlocks have to hide within taverns because being a warlock is illegal). They shouldn't necessarily be on openly friendly terms with Darnassus or the Sentinels. The distrust surrounding arcane magic is still deeply rooted in Night Elf society, and that tension is what makes the concept interesting.
The idea of playing as a Shen'dralar would be amazing. Their themes, aesthetics, and worldview are completely distinct, ancient astrolabes, forgotten libraries, relics of the old empire, knowledge preserved since before the Sunderingm etc.
My idea is that they could start with a small introductory questline in a different version of Dire Maul or somewhere in Feralas before eventually being sent as "diplomats" or observers to Darkshore or Ashenvale in order to gain trust from other Night elves/Or the Alliance.
I think introducing Highborne this way would feel far more authentic to Vanilla's worldbuilding. Instead of feeling like a retailstyle "out of nowhere, read a book" style.
