# Warrior class changes

Scope: This file contains concrete Warrior gameplay/class changes from the original topic-15157 changelog and the historical/later Turtle WoW Team posts in the forum-63 corpus: baseline abilities and resources, Arms, Fury, Protection, weapon/stance interactions, tier sets, and subsequent patch updates. General racials, unrelated item changes, commentary, NPC-only behavior, cosmetic-only changes, and discussion replies are omitted. Identical or substantively identical same-date entries from duplicate changelog copies are merged; later revisions, reversions, and hotfixes remain at their actual dates. Source IDs and permalinks preserve the evidence for each entry.

### Baseline and abilities

- Thunder Clap became usable in Defensive Stance.
- Intervene was added: 10 Rage, 30-second cooldown, Defensive Stance required, acquired from a book at level 50. It runs to a party member and intercepts their next melee or ranged attack, sharing a cooldown with Intercept.
- Decisive Strike was added: 15 Rage and a 2-second cast. It focuses an attack equal to Slam Rank 4, can be cast while moving, and does not suffer cast-time pushback from damage. Improved Slam reduces its cast time.
- Die by the Sword was added as a passive acquired from a book at level 58; it increases parry chance by 20% while Retaliation is active.

### Arms

- Improved Thunder Clap (row 2) reduces Thunder Clap's cost by 1/2/4 Rage and increases its damage by 20/40/60%.
- Polearm Specialization (row 6) was combined into Axe Specialization (row 5) and renamed Poleaxe Specialization (row 5).
- Improved Disciplines (row 6) reduces Retaliation, Recklessness, and Shield Wall cooldowns by 2/4/6 minutes.

### Protection

- Improved Shield Block was reduced from three ranks to one; it lets Shield Block block an additional attack and increases its duration by 1 second.

### Baseline

- Rage generation was rebuilt so that 90% of the result depends on gear and 10% is predetermined by weapon speed. This substantially raises rage generation for levelers without the best weapon, dungeoneers/fresh raiders, and heavily armored opponents while keeping the top end similar. The rage-decay portion of Anger Management became baseline; its in-combat portion was compensated by the new rage formula.
- Execute was rebased and its extra-rage damage increased: Rank 1 (level 24) 125 -> 75 base damage and 3 -> 4 damage per extra rage; Rank 2 (32) 200 -> 150 and 6 -> 8; Rank 3 (40) 325 -> 225 and 9 -> 12; Rank 4 (48) 450 -> 300 and 12 -> 16; Rank 5 (56) 600 -> 375 and 15 -> 20. Execute gained a 5.5-second cooldown.
- Off-hand attacks are no longer guaranteed to land while Heroic Strike is queued. Dual Wield Specialization instead grants 2/4/6/8/10% off-hand hit chance (see Fury below).
- Dual Wield is taught at level 10.
- Intervene is taught at level 20 instead of being learned from a book.
- Pummel has one rank, deals 5% of Attack Power instead of flat damage, is taught at level 18, and can be used in Battle Stance.
- Slam is taught at level 14 and pauses the weapon swing timer instead of resetting it.
- Rend scales with Attack Power.
- Out-of-combat rage decay is consistently 2 rage per 2 seconds.
- Hamstring has a 6-second cooldown.
- Sunder Armor costs 10 rage instead of 15.
- Shield Wall ends early if the shield is unequipped while the effect is active.

### Arms

- Tactical Mastery moved from row 2 to row 1.
- Improved Rend became a 2-point talent and increases Rend bleed damage by 10/20% (instead of 15/25/35%).
- Deflection moved from row 1 to row 2.
- Improved Charge rage increased from 3/6 to 5/10.
- Deep Wounds deals damage every 1.5 seconds and lasts 6 seconds.
- Improved Hamstring was removed.
- New 3rd-row keystone Counterattack: becomes active after parrying; deals rank-based flat damage plus 10% Attack Power, immobilizes for 3 seconds, cannot be blocked, dodged, or parried, and has a 5-second cooldown. Damage: Rank 1 (level 20/talent) 40; Rank 2 (30) 80; Rank 3 (40) 120; Rank 4 (50) 160; Rank 5 (60) 200.
- Improved Slam moved to Arms, was reduced from 5 points to 2, and now affects Slam's global cooldown as well as its regular cooldown.
- Two-Handed Weapon Specialization became 3 points (from 5), increases two-handed weapon damage by 2/4/6%, and adds 1/2/3 skill to all two-handed weapons.
- Poleaxe Specialization and Sword Specialization were removed.
- New 5th-row, 5-point Master of Arms adds a weapon-type effect: Axe +1/2/3/4/5% critical chance; Mace causes attacks to ignore 2/4/6/8/10 armor per level; Sword gives a 1/2/3/4/5% chance for an extra attack on the same target after hitting; Polearm increases melee attack range by 0.4/0.8/1.2/1.6/2.0 yards.
- Sweeping Strikes costs 20 rage instead of 30 and is no longer consumed by off-hand hits.
- New 5th-row, 3-point Precision Cut increases damage per extra rage spent on Execute by 20/40/60%.
- New 6th-row, 3-point Boundless Anger increases maximum rage by 10/20/30.
- Improved Disciplines reduces Retaliation, Recklessness, and Shield Wall cooldowns by 4/8/12 minutes instead of 2/4/6.

### Fury

- Booming Voice increases the area of effect of all shouts and its values are 12/24/36/48/60% (from 10/20/30/40/50%); this includes Intimidating Shout, Piercing Howl, and Challenging Shout.
- Unbridled Wrath's proc chance is 15/30/45/60/75% (from 8/16/24/32/40%) and its effect is doubled for two-handed weapons.
- Dual Wield Specialization moved from row 4 to row 2 and also grants 2/4/6/8/10% off-hand hit chance.
- Improved Demoralizing Shout and Improved Battle Shout merged into the 3rd-row Improved Shouts talent with both effects.
- Blood Craze healing increased from 1/2/3% to 2/4/6% of total health.
- Improved Execute was replaced by Reckless Execute, reducing Execute's cooldown by 2/4 seconds; the second point removes the cooldown.
- Enrage lasts 8 seconds instead of 12 and no longer has a 12-swing maximum.
- New 4th-row, 2-point Improved Pummel: Pummel has a 25/50% chance to daze for 4 seconds, and spell-school lockouts last 1/2 seconds longer.
- Improved Slam moved to Arms.
- New 5th-row, 3-point Improved Whirlwind reduces Whirlwind cooldown by 1/1.5/2 seconds.
- Improved Intercept was renamed Battlefield Mobility and also reduces Intervene cooldown.
- Improved Berserker Rage was removed.
- New 6th-row, 3-point Blood Drinker: while Enrage, Death Wish, or Recklessness is active, ability critical strikes make the next 5 melee attacks heal for 1/1.5/2% of maximum health.
- Bloodthirst was reworked into an instant reckless attack dealing rank-based flat damage plus 30% Attack Power, with a self-inflicted wound. Ranks: 1 (level 40/talent) 80; 2 (48) 100; 3 (56) 120; 4 (60) 150. The self-damage is half the base damage and scaling, uses armor mitigation, can critically strike, and can proc Enrage at the physical critical chance.

### Protection

- Improved Bloodrage moved to row 1 and generates an additional 5/10 instant rage.
- Shield Specialization generates 1/2/3/4/5 rage on a block in addition to its block chance.
- Anticipation became 3 ranks granting 7/14/20 Defense.
- Improved Shield Block was removed; its power was moved to a Shield Slam side talent.
- Toughness additionally increases shield-absorbed damage by 3/6/9/12/15%.
- New Improved Intervene grants a 50/100% chance to become immune to movement-impairing effects for 3 seconds after Intervene.
- Improved Taunt moved from row 4 to row 3.
- Improved Revenge also reduces Revenge cooldown by 0.5/1/1.5 seconds.
- Defiance moved from row 3 to row 4.
- Improved Sunder Armor was removed; base Sunder Armor cost was reduced by 5 rage (15 -> 10, also reflected in the baseline change above).
- Improved Shield Bash was renamed Gag Order and moved to row 4; Shield Slam also gains a 25/50% chance to dispel a magic effect from the target.
- Improved Disarm became 2 points and reduces Disarm cooldown by 10/20 seconds.
- One-Handed Weapon Specialization moved from row 6 to row 5.
- Shield Slam moved to row 5 and now scales from Attack Power as well as shield block value.
- New Improved Shield Slam reduces Shield Slam cooldown by 0.5/1 second and gives 35/70% extra block chance against the next attack within 5 seconds.
- New Reprisal increases Revenge damage by 25/50% and gives a 50/100% chance to refund its rage cost when successful.
- Improved Shield Wall moved from row 5 to row 6; it reduces Shield Wall cooldown by 5/10 minutes and increases duration by 1/2 seconds.
- New Defensive Tactics: while wearing a shield, retain 50/100/150% of Defensive Stance's increased threat generation in other stances.
- Concussion Blow moved from row 5 to row 7. It now deals damage, causes high threat, and penetrates 50% of enemy armor in addition to its prior effect.

## 2024-10-21 — 1.17.2 update

- Improved Shield Slam's block-buff duration/cooldown was reduced from 5 to 4.5 seconds, and its Shield Slam cooldown reduction increased from 0.5/1 to 0.75/1.5 seconds.

- Enrage's damage bonus was reduced from 25% to 15%.

- Mortal Strike now deals 105/110/115/120% weapon damage instead of weapon damage plus 85/110/135/160.

- Missing Counterattack ranks were added to Warrior trainers.
- Missing Dual Wield training was added to Warrior trainers; Warrior trainers offer Dual Wield at level 10.
- Blood Craze now correctly procs from the self-inflicted damage of Bloodthirst and Bloodrage.
- Earthshaker Slam now benefits from spell hit chance instead of physical hit chance.
- Bloodthirst now damages the user for 10% of the damage dealt to the enemy, unaffected by modifiers such as armor. This is a later revision to the earlier self-damage behavior.
- Sunder Armor can now trigger Windfury Totem.
- A bug causing some Warriors to generate an additional 10 Rage on every attack was fixed.

- Bloodthirst no longer damages the Warrior and therefore can no longer proc Enrage. It grants 5% movement speed for 6 seconds, stacking with other movement-speed increases; its base damage increased from 80/100/120/150 to 100/130/160/200 (Ranks 1-4), and Attack Power scaling increased from 30% to 35%.
- Enrage damage bonus increased from 3/6/9/12/15% to 4/8/12/16/20%.
- Concussion Blow cooldown reduced from 45 to 20 seconds, armor penetration increased from 50% to 100%, and stun duration reduced from 5 to 2 seconds.
- Decisive Strike was removed.
- Slam became a 2.5-second cast that continues the weapon swing timer and allows movement while casting. It gained ranks with weapon-damage values: Rank 1 (level 14) 50%; Rank 2 (24) 60%; Rank 3 (34) 70%; Rank 4 (44) 80%; Rank 5 (54) 90%. The change promoted Decisive Strike's former moving/cast behavior and shelved the earlier swing-timer-pause version. Slam is normalized; the post notes that 3.8-second weapons see about an 18% damage reduction, with a smaller reduction for faster weapons.
- Master of Arms Mace armor penetration reduced from 2/4/6/8/10 to 1.2/2.4/3.6/4.8/6 per level (600 -> 360 at level 60).
- Precision Cut now refunds 10/20/30% of the rage spent when Execute hits.
- Execute values reverted to the original values: Rank 1 (level 24) 125 + 3 per extra rage; Rank 2 (32) 200 + 6; Rank 3 (40) 325 + 9; Rank 4 (48) 450 + 12; Rank 5 (56) 600 + 15. Its cooldown was reduced from 5.5 to 4.5 seconds.
- Reckless Execute Rank 1 cooldown reduction reduced from 2 to 1.5 seconds; Rank 2 still removes Execute's cooldown.
- Defensive Tactics threat multipliers increased from 55/110/165% to 60/120/180%.
- Revenge cooldown increased from 5 to 6 seconds.

- Counterattack was removed and replaced by the new 3rd-row, 1-point Master Strike. Master Strike deals 35% weapon damage and applies a main-hand weapon effect: Mace disorients for 3 seconds (broken by damage); Sword disarms for 3 seconds; Axe immobilizes for 4 seconds; Polearm deals an additional 100% weapon damage to a mounted target and dismounts it; Fist Weapon knocks down for 2 seconds; Staff gives 25% parry for 10 seconds; Dagger silences for 3 seconds. It costs 20 rage, has a 30-second cooldown, and is melee range.
- Mortal Strike's proposed increase to 115/120/125/130% weapon damage (Ranks 1-4) was reverted in the same changelog; the effective values remain 105/110/115/120% weapon damage.
- Slam damage increased for ranks 2-5: Rank 2 (level 24) 60% -> 65%; Rank 3 (34) 70% -> 80%; Rank 4 (44) 80% -> 90%; Rank 5 (54) 90% -> 100%. Rank 1 remains 50% weapon damage.
- Precision Cut was reworked to increase Execute's base damage by 15/30/45%.
