If it's running on the same *everything* would we be able to transfer our chars from twow or will we be starting fresh?

This will be a fresh server with no ability to transfer TWoW characters as we do not have their database or the ability to backport from 1.18.2 characters.

We are developing a character exporter though that you will be able to run through your account management page on our website in the future. This will allow you to export your OctoWow character and play with them locally, or upload them yourself to any server that accepts them!

Will we be able to transfer chars from capycraft? Same progression. Same gear. I just leveled up and for me the 60 lvl char with default items would be more than enough.

I don't think you understand how servers for games like WoW work.

Your characters are part of a separate DB from the rest of the file system, and unless that 17.2 leak HAS an instance of the character database, there is no way to do that. Turtle's servers died and took your character with them. There is no getting them back.

If it DID, the database would only have your character from within the snapshot of time when the leak was taken. meaning NO, you would not have your 60 (or possibly any account or character depending on your join date) if you weren't 60 and present in the DB at the time of the leak

Well, I don't talk about twow at all. Some of the servers like circle allow to transfer one character from any 3.3.5a client. The user is providing access to his account, dev logs in, checks the character and it's items (probably they created an addon for export items) and just recreate it in their server. Eventually, remove the char from the source server. It's a manual job but potentially will move some player to this server. The operation could be well optimized and won't take a lot of time. It can really populate the server. A lot of people would like to transfer from capycraft or other projects like this.

Part of the court mandate was the Twow devs not do anything related to WoW anymore, period dot. Facilitating character transfers or giving files for Turtle falls under this.

So again, unless the leaked 17.2 build octo built of included the character DB at the time of the leak. Chances are you're all SoL

hell no. reroll like everyone else. this isn't capy where the china GMs rebuilt their lost turtle chars for themselves and their select few of RMT botters.
