Guild housing, guild banks, and guild tabards

Recently Kestrel talked to the community about some potential changes happening in the future to the guild base/houses, the guild banks, and the implementation of getting to the guild bases and i'd like to express my thoughts about them.

The broad strokes of what was mentioned that I think is important to talk about is how there will be a "limited stock" of guild bases and how guild tabard hearthing is affected by it, as well as no plans on adding guild banks back to major cities.

The guild bank thing is less concerning but imo is a good starting point for the larger conversation, but my biggest issue with it is that I can't imagine a productive reason why it would be a good idea. It just feels like something that people didn't mind on Turtle WoW and is now being changed up because ??? It's another weird change that seemingly tries to fix a nonexistent problem.

The second topic I think is important to have a voice about is the limited stock of guild bases. I'm not sure how the devs convinced themselves that taking the old guild base system of choosing an inn and having the tabard hearth you there, a system that i've never seen negative criticism about, was a worse idea than limiting the amount of guilds who get to use such a utility (tabard hearth). Sure, on paper it can look like a very interesting choice, the old guild bases are in cool spots, and it's dope to flex your guild's prime real estate. But there's a reason why Turtle didn't go through with it, and it's because it's a headache waiting to happen.

It's difficult to speculate on how exactly it will be implemented so it wouldn't make sense to try and criticize it in detail, but ultimately the topic is about potentially inelegant decisions about gameplay and the world at large. You're sitting on gold here and while Turtle wasn't absolutely perfect, it was FUN and the population numbers spoke for itself on that front. The lighter the touch for any future changes, the better. Shaking up systems that people enjoyed and didn't have a problem with is a slippery slope and i'm lucky enough that i'm given a place to voice my concerns and play on the server, so thank you if you've read this far.

Why no guild banks in major cities? What was wrong with that? I don't get it.

What is the reasoning for not adding Guild Banks to the major cities?

Did he specify why? I can't imagine why anyone would be against this.

The ideal solution would be porting the TBC models for Guild Banks (and if they wouldn't work as objects, make them work as NPCs instead, like in Twow, just with the Vault models)

The original Turtle WoW developers went out of their way to make the world feel alive and give guilds a real sense of belonging. They created 36 unique guild bases scattered throughout the open world. And the really cool part? Every established guild could request its own custom guild house. A developer would work directly with the guild's GM and officers to design and build a base tailored to the guild's needs, within the limits of what was technically possible.

These weren't just generic buildings thrown into the world. They were custom-made homes for individual guilds, and all the old guilds had one. Octo has them too, because they copied that part of Turtle WoW's code.

And that's where the difference becomes pretty telling. Octo inherited all those guild bases by copying Turtle WoW's code, yet after six months, they still haven't even managed to implement the tabard-based teleport system.

That pretty much sums up the difference in how the two teams approach their community.
