Freewood LUA IDE – develop and test addons for WoW 1.12 / OctoWoW in your browser

Deutsch

English

The Freewood LUA IDE is a free development environment for WoW addons. It runs entirely in your browser, nothing needs to be installed, and your projects stay with you.

What it can do:
  • Code editor for Lua with checks for syntax errors and missing API functions
  • WoW API simulation: your addon runs on a real Lua 5.0 runtime, with events, windows (mail, auction, vendor, trainer, bank, trade …) and slash commands
  • Forms editor: draw windows and frames, Lua or XML is generated
  • Node graph: build addons with visual scripting
  • Targets: Vanilla 1.12 (Lua 5.0), 1.12 + ClassicAPI (OctoWoW / TurtleWoW) and Retail
  • Command line: everything can also be checked and run without a browser, for example for tests or by AI assistants
Good to know: the simulation uses invented sample data. It shows whether your code runs and the functions exist, but does not replace testing in game. The return formats were verified against a real OctoWoW client.

For AI assistants: the repo contains a guide on how Claude, ChatGPT and others can use the IDE from the command line (file docs/KI-ANLEITUNG.md, bilingual).
