Comments in benilla-ui: one line of fact each, no history, no record numbers (#143)
Part of #41: the comments of `benilla-ui` (the Lua UI engine, its FrameXML loader and its widgets) are rewritten to the rule in `docs/METHOD.md`, which is what the code does and the reference fact behind it, in a line. 43,140 comment lines become 15,161. - **The mechanical strip.** The citations that were only a private record number go first, and each edit is shown to be a pure removal. - **Wrong facts corrected.** The rewrite corrects the comments that stated wrong facts. Among them: - `0x64a480` is the case-sensitive compare (a byte `repz cmpsb`), and `0x64a4c0` the case-insensitive one. - A frame's id sits at `+0xb0`, not `+0xb4`. `EnableKeyboard`/`IsKeyboardEnabled` are `0x776ec0`/`0x776f90`. - A region's unpinned edge has no fallback to its owner's rect: the owner supplies only the scale. - `$parent` expands to the nearest named ancestor, or "Top" when none is named (`0x76c5b0`), not simply to the parent. - A StatusBar fills from its internal normalised fraction, not from `GetValue()`. - The addresses of `StartDuel` and `StartDuelUnit` were swapped. - Many "untraced" notes now give the traced reference fact: the drag threshold, the per-grip sizing edges, the empty-`autoFocus` skip, and `SetTexCoordModifiesRect`'s default. - Stock FrameXML line citations are checked against the stock 1.12 files and corrected. `ref-` file names become the stock file names. - **Deviation labels.** "Deviation:" now marks only a choice with a reason. A surface that exists only for the retired Era addon target says so plainly: it is not 1.12. - **Verification.** Every file strips to identical code, and `cargo fmt --check` is clean. Nine second readers compared every file old against new, restored the facts the rewrite had dropped, and checked each new citation against the code, the stock files, vmangos and the reference. Behaviour differences the rewrite surfaced are filed as their own issues (#131–#142), and more are being validated. The comments here state what the code does. String literals are untouched; they are #92. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

comments cite the reference by address, not by private note (#30)
Comments that pointed into the maintainer's private reverse-engineering notes (a note by name, a path, a section or finding id, the analysis's own name for a client function, a process word) now carry the fact itself, cited by the reference client's address, by vmangos file and line, or as "the reference". Nobody outside could follow those pointers. Comment text only, plus the test-assert and log strings that carried the same pointers. No claim changes: a comment the notes have since corrected keeps its wording here, and correcting it is separate work. The two reference generators, `scripts/gen-reference-globals.py` and `scripts/gen-reference-verb-events.py`, named the private notes' layout to find their inputs. They now take the input files as arguments (`--capture`, `--framexml`, `--names`, `--extents`, `--disasm`). Run on the same inputs, both write the committed tables row for row; only the two header lines that named the old environment variable change. Checked per file: - the code is identical: each file with its comments stripped compares equal before and after; a changed string literal is compared under a mask that proves only literal text moved and every literal kept its line count; - no client address the old text cited was dropped; - a second reviewer checked every added address against its derivation; - a detector for the notes' names, paths, ids, function names and process words finds none left; - `scripts/gates.sh` is green. the inspect and talent windows are the reference's own
- the inspect and talent windows are the reference's own: `Blizzard_InspectUI` and `Blizzard_TalentUI` are LoadOnDemand addons whose real `.xml`/`.lua` live inside `patch.MPQ` — the loose `Interface\AddOns` folder holds only a `.pub` signature, which three notes in this tree had read as "packed, no source to migrate from", one wrong inference that kept five windows on hand-written transcriptions; 2300 lines of ours out, no engine work needed, and three things our talent transcription had quietly invented fell out (there was no level-10 gate, every tree scrolled where a shallow one does not, and a nil `TalentMicroButton` threw out of OnShow before the window painted) - a nil unit token RAISES in 53 of 83 bindings: wow-re censused the registrar table at `0x850438` — `UnitName(nil)` raises and `UnitIsVisible(nil)` is quiet, one line apart in stock files, so there is no rule to derive, the table is the rule; ours answered a default and our own test had pinned it; both token positions of the seven two-token predicates are gated, `GetRaidTargetIndex` too, and `UnitIsAFK`/`UnitIsDND` are confirmed not to exist in 5875 at all (zero occurrences under a positive control) — we invented them, and they stay deliberately ungated - `EditBox:SetNumber` did not exist (the only chain file calling it is `MoneyInputFrame.lua`, on the chain since the money kit): it is byte-identical to `SetText`, formats through `%.14g` in MSVC's CRT (`1e+020`, `1.#INF`), and `OnTextChanged` never fires from an edit — it fires from the dirty-word drain inside the box's own OnUpdate, coalesced to one per box per frame, where ours fired synchronously and `MoneyInputFrame_SetCopper` raised on it; `PanelTemplates_TabResize`'s `tab` argument is optional as the reference's is (stock macro tabs call it with `0`) - the skull or star on your CURRENT target never appeared or cleared until you re-targeted — `RAID_TARGET_UPDATE` was never fired, and stock `TargetFrame.lua` hangs its repaint off it; a raid-to-party conversion now empties the mark board as `0x4ba550` does; and the group-loot roll popups were already on the chain inside stock `LootFrame.xml` — our 546-line `GroupLootFrame.xml` had been shadowing all four of them Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

the Lightwell stands up, and stealth openers start your swing
- the Lightwell has its shaft: a billboard card kept only the x of its bone's scale, so a bone animated non-uniformly (the well's 8.8 × 8.8 × 37.6 light column) collapsed into a squat blob drowning the bowl — 32 models and 49 bones in the corpus were losing their stretch the same way, mage Teleport's six bones at ×11 among them; `bbscan` grew the column that finds them - Backstab, Garrote, Ambush, Cheap Shot, Shred, Ravage, Pounce and one Judgement start your auto-attack on the spell's hit, as the reference does — the "no spell carries that bit" the deferral rested on was a proof by absence over ten rows; the census now covers the shipped file's 36 - Quiver's range rung reads right: the interact-distance map held players only, so a mob "target" answered a constant at every distance; it holds every unit now, with the inspect refusal riding the entry - the craft and tradeskill reagent slot is the reference's QuestItemTemplate (147×41, the name plate, the count on the icon) — its base template lives in the Blizzard addons, not FrameXML, which is why the first cut was hand-rolled Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

party members show on the world map, and the leader wears the crown
- party members appear on the world map at their position and hovering names them — the party wire has carried each member's zone and coordinates since the group arc; the blip and the minimap dot read one shared position so they can never disagree, and the member's zone picks which continent the position belongs to - the player's own frame wears the leader crown and the master-looter icon, with the reference's own asymmetry (the crown asks IsPartyLeader, the member frames compare a leader index) - a party member outside your local area gets the generic race/sex portrait instead of an empty circle — their race and sex ride the name query, and nothing had asked for a member we never see; the roster now warms that cache, which also fills the raid grid's class column - right-clicking a member who is nowhere near grays Trade, Inspect, Duel and Follow: the reference's bindings answer nil for a unit the object manager does not hold (carved this session), where ours defaulted "absent = in range" for exactly the farthest member; and the group-invite popup's background is measured faithful — the plate draws at the BLP's own 60% alpha Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

duels, inspecting other players, and water that ends at the bank
- Duels. Challenge another player from their right-click menu, or with `/duel`, and `/forfeit` to give it up. Both popups are there — the challenge you accept or decline, and the warning when you leave the field — with the flag countdown between them, and the outcome printed in chat when someone is knocked out or flees. Read off the reference client's own duel packets and the three globals it keeps client-side, which is why the challenger reads "You have requested a duel." even though the server never echoes that back. - Inspect. Right-click a player and open their paper doll: their nineteen publicly visible equipment slots with icon, name, quality and a linkable item, and their body standing in the pane, which follows along if you retarget while the window is open. No stack counts and no durability — those are not fields another player publishes, which is exactly why the reference client's inspect doll has never shown them either. - Water knows where it stops. Swimming used to trigger in the dry tunnel thirty yards under Stormwind's canal, and in mid-air over Blackrock's lava. A liquid is now the grid the map file actually stores — one wet flag per cell, and the surface height a bilinear over the four corners of the cell you are standing in, the same sample the reference client takes — so the water starts at the bank and its surface sits where your eye puts it. Lava is a liquid you swim in, an indoor liquid asks the building you are inside, and `/liquid` prints every surface claiming your feet and where each one came from. - Creature parts authored to appear only on death — the voidwalker, the banshee, the ooze, the stone elemental, the infernal — were drawing the whole time: material alpha now bakes per animation sequence and the unit lane actually evaluates it. The character and inspect model panes are lit by the reference widget's own single light instead of blowing out white, the rotate arrows spin while you hold them, and the transparent sort ladder had its sign backwards, so overhead names draw over water again instead of being painted out by a canal behind them. Underneath, the protocol writer's 95-verb drawer and its thousand-line spell module split into per-family files — no behaviour change, just a tree you can find things in.
