The land chain compiled the player build twice: `cargo build -p benilla --no-default-features`,
then `cargo test -p benilla-formats -p benilla-app --no-default-features --lib`. The test build
already compiles every line of the no-`dev` graph but the `benilla` launcher, a 17-line shim with
no `dev` seam, and `benilla-app` has no `cfg(not(test))` code, so the first step added only the
shim and a link: about two of a chain's twelve minutes. It goes from `gates.sh` and CI, and
`player-tests` carries its comment.
`check.sh` no longer says a full chain before land makes the land free: main moves in between, so
the chain ran twice.
Test: this land's own chain runs the new `gates.sh`.

The startup line, crash reports and the debug panel now name the release a build is, so a bug report carries it: `benilla build 0.2.0 · b17be27 · 2026-09-27 · release` on a release, `0.2.0+12 · …` twelve commits past its tag.
- `benilla-buildstamp` also stamps `git describe --tags --long --match 'v[0-9]*'` and watches `packed-refs` and `refs/tags`, so a fetched tag restamps without a new commit.
- `BuildId` carries the workspace version and the describe. `release()` reads the version, with `+N` when the describe's tag is that version's; with no tag in reach (a source archive, a shallow clone) or the previous version's tag (the release commit before its tag exists) it reads the version alone.
- The bug template's example line shows the new form.
Checked: the four new `build_id` tests fail with the distance parser broken and pass restored; the describe command in a scratch clone reads empty with no tag, `v0.1.0-443-g…` over a launch tag, `v0.2.0-0-g…` on the release commit, and skips tags that are not `v`-numbered; the build script's output carries the new watches and variable. Gates green on macOS; no platform seam touched.

The gates of scripts/gates.sh that need neither the install nor a display (fmt, clippy, the
workspace tests without an install, the doc-link and render-pass lints, the player build and its
tests), on ubuntu-latest, so a red pull request is seen before anyone builds it. A branch of this
repository skips the job: it runs the full chain before it lands. The job reads the repository
only, keeps no credentials in the checkout, pins its two actions by commit, drops debuginfo for
the runner's disk and caches dependencies. gates.sh and CONTRIBUTING say what runs where.
actionlint passes; the system packages are the ones CONTRIBUTING names for Linux. The workflow's
first run is a manual one on main once it lands.

The issue form asks for what happened, with only that field required, then what 1.12.1 does,
how to see it, and the build line. Blank issues stay open, and questions point to the Discord.
The pull request template asks what changes, the 1.12.1 fact behind it, and how it was checked.

The workflow that closed every pull request on arrival is gone, the README's closed-doors
notice becomes a short Contributing section, and CONTRIBUTING.md says how to report a bug.
