app+ui: the player's own cast state, and SPELL_CAST_EVENT off the commit
`GetCurrentCastingInfo` and `GetCastInfo` are the two most-called
nampower functions in grom's corpus — 25 and 20 call sites outside
`NampowerAPI.lua` — and one of them calls with no existence guard at
all: `local _,_,_,_,_,_,autoattack = GetCurrentCastingInfo()`
(SuperCleveRoidMacros/Core.lua:94), in the frame that keeps clearing the
target while an autoattack is queued. On this client that line raised.
The earlier doc row said the client had "a spell id, a deadline and a
guard bit — no start instant, no channel state, no GCD end". That was
true of `PendingCast` and wrong about the tree: `ui_cast_events.rs`
already folds a cast window per caster off the same packets, with a
start, an end, a channel bit and the accumulated pushback, behind
`C_Spell.UnitCastingInfo`. What was actually missing was the caster's
own machinery — the reference's cast globals, which have no descriptor
field anywhere — and the GCD, which `spell/cooldowns.rs` has run
correctly all along and never published.
So `GetCastInfo` folds two halves: its timing columns come from the
player's own window, its identity and GCD columns from a new per-tick
`SelfCast` snapshot. The feed declares itself after the window drain, so
the two halves can never describe different casts. Added:
- `SelfCast` (benilla-ui) — the inflight spell `0xceca88`, the bar's
spell `0xceac48`, the auto-repeat key `0xceac30`, casting/channeling/
onswing/autoattack, the cast counter, the cast type, the target, and
the GCD's start and end on the GetTime clock.
- `ui_self_cast.rs` (benilla-app) — the push, plus `SPELL_CAST_EVENT`.
- `Cooldowns::gcd` — the running global cooldown as one timer. `info`
still answers the per-category question every cooldown swirl asks;
this answers "when does the GCD end", which has no spell to key on
because its consumers divide it (`API.GetGCDRemainingMs`) or compare
it against seconds (`[gcd:<1]`).
- `PendingCast`'s cast counter, in the one place every class of commit
already passes through.
Three decisions where the tempting answer was the wrong one:
- `GetCastInfo` is **nil** when nothing is casting, and an instant's GCD
does not count. Answering a table whenever the GCD is up would make
the consumer's fast path always hit — and `API.IsCasting()` *is*
`GetCastInfo() ~= nil`, so `[casting]` would read true for a second
and a half after every instant. The wrapper's own comment says what to
do instead ("GetSpellIdCooldown … works for instant casts").
- `castId` is two different numbers under one upstream name: a counter
in `GetCastInfo`'s table, beside a separate `spellId`; a **spell id**
in `GetCurrentCastingInfo`'s returns, which is how both of its readers
treat it (Init.lua:89 stores it as castingSpellId, Core.lua:5427 hands
it to C_Spell.GetSpellName). Each is implemented as what its own
consumer reads, and both are spelled out at the binding.
- `SPELL_CAST_EVENT` fires for commits, not refusals. Upstream's
`success` can be 0; this client's local refusals funnel through
`CastErrors`, which carries a spell id and a reason byte and neither a
cast type nor a target — a row from there would invent two of five
fields. Nothing in the corpus reads the failing branch
(Core.lua:5177 is one `if success == 1 then` with no else). Written
down at the type rather than left to be found.
Tests run the consumers' own bodies transcribed, as `cast_info.rs` next
door does: `API.GetCastInfo` with its `GetCurrentCastingInfo` fallback
arm, `API.IsCasting`, `API.GetGCDRemainingMs`, `API.GetCastRemainingMs`
and `CleveRoids.UpdateCastingState`. A positional seven-return shape and
a ten-key table are only correct relative to the code that reads them.

ui: ClassicAPI's GetCraftReagentItemID
The one column 1.12's `GetCraftReagentInfo` does not answer: it gives the reagent's name, icon and the needed/held counts, and no item id at all, so nothing that keys a table on an item — pfUI's reagent counter — can use the stock verb. Same `(craftIndex, reagentIndex)` pair and the same rows that verb walks, so the two cannot disagree about which reagent is meant. Out of range on either index is nil, matching the stock verb's own nil-first return. All nine gates green. ui: ClassicAPI's GUID player info, no-toggle cast and stable-id skill rank
Third DLL tranche, from ClassicAPI's side of the work list. Its 70 corpus-called names are mostly **not** functions — `Clear`, `Fire`, `Size`, `Armor`, `Nature`, `Normal`, `None` and the rest are widget methods and enum keys its DLL carries as strings, and several more (`GetSpellSchool`, `RunMacro`, `GetSpellLink`) the corpus defines for itself. Reading the call sites left nine genuine gaps; three are landed here and the rest need state this client does not feed yet. - `GetPlayerInfoByGUID(guid)` -> `localizedClass, englishClass, localizedRace, englishRace, sex, name, realm`. 1.12 has no verb that takes a GUID at all. Answered through the same `Model::unit` as the whole unit surface, so a raw GUID, a `0x`-prefixed one and every other token spelling resolve alike; an unknown GUID is seven nils, not a raise. `realm` is **nil** on purpose: the field means the realm the *named* character is from, which 1.12 has no concept of, and our own realm name there would be a guess that reads as data. - `CastSpellNoToggle(spellId)`: the plain cast by id. The toggle lives in the client's cast path and benilla's queue toggles nothing — a press is a send — so this is what the caller asked for, on the same queue a bar press uses. Same reasoning as nampower's `CastSpellNoQueue`. - `C_SpellBook.GetSkillLineRank(skillLineID)` -> `rank, maxRank`. 1.12 reaches a skill only by its index into the skills *window*, which moves as lines are learnt and categories collapse — a `SkillLine.dbc` id is stable, which is why pfQuest asks by one. It reuses `skills::displayed_ranks`, so the stable-id getter and `GetSkillLineInfo` fold bonuses and the mono override identically and cannot disagree. A line the character has no row for is `nil, nil`, not `0, 0`: untrained and unknown are different answers. All nine gates green. ui+docs: SuperWoW's quest-log getters, and the DLL work list worked name by name
`GetQuestIDForLogIndex(index)` and `GetQuestLinkForLogIndex(index)`: 1.12's `GetQuestLogTitle` answers the title and never the id, so neither the id nor a chat link for a log row is derivable from the stock API. The id reads the same `quest_log.entries` ClassicAPI's `C_QuestLog.GetQuestIDForLogIndex` does, so an addon that feature-detects one and falls back to the other gets one answer; a header row is id `0` and **no** link, rather than a link to quest 0. `docs/ADDON_COMPAT.md` now carries the whole work list with a status per name, and the most useful finding in it is not a missing function: `SuperCleveRoidMacros/NampowerAPI.lua` is a capability registry whose `HasFeature` checks the version **and** `_G[name] ~= nil`, so nothing on the list was broken and raising `GetNampowerVersion` would not have helped. Defining the global is the only honest way to make one live. Counts, so the list cannot be read as more alarming than it is: 16 done across this tranche and the two before it; 12 that were already present and only looked absent because the script compares against `dump_globals` on a bare VM (and because an *event* is never a global); 6 that need a feed, each with the specific thing missing; 3 that are the spell queue this client deliberately does not have; and 7 withheld. The seven withheld are `ExportFile`, `ImportFile`, `WriteCustomFile`, `ReadCustomFile`, `CustomFileExists`, `ExecuteCustomLuaFile` and `EncryptPassword`. Six of those give addon Lua read, write and **execute** on files under the client folder and the seventh takes a password. They are real in nampower and used for config export, but they are a different kind of surface from a getter and the right default for a client that did not have them yesterday is not to grow them quietly. `GetCastInfo` and `GetCurrentCastingInfo` are left out for a reason worth keeping: their consumers divide by the cast and GCD timings, and this client has a spell id, a deadline and a guard bit — no start instant, no channel flag, no GCD end. A table of three real fields and seven zeros is worse than the nil the addon's own fallback already handles correctly. 269 data-gated failures, identical to the baseline. All nine gates green. ui+app: nampower's bag group, aura cancels, no-queue casts, unit-event CVars
Second tranche. Eight more verbs and six CVar rows, all from state this client already owns. The bag group — `FindPlayerItemSlot(idOrName)`, `GetBagItem(bag, slot)`, `GetItemIdCooldown(itemId)`, `UseItemIdOrName(idOrName)` — shares one lookup, deliberately: the three that search must agree about *which* of two identical stacks they mean, and they answer the first, reading bags and slots ascending, as the reference's own auto-store search walks (`0x4f8030`) and as a player reads their bags. A name matches through the item cache, case-insensitively, since a bag slot carries no name of its own. `GetItemIdCooldown` answers the stock `0, 0, 1` for a cold or uncarried item rather than nil, because the consumer does arithmetic on the triple. `UseItemIdOrName` calls `UseContainerItem` itself rather than reaching past it, so the cursor-clear and repair-mode rules the stock verb applies still happen. `CancelPlayerAuraSpellId(spellId, [ignoreMissing])` and `CancelPlayerAuraSlot(auraSlot)`: the two keys into the `CMSG_CANCEL_AURA` queue `CancelPlayerBuff` already fills, so the three cannot disagree. The slot is the **raw 0-based** descriptor slot upstream documents and the buff events report, not the Lua index. `ignoreMissing` is accepted and changes nothing — it asks upstream not to complain, and nothing here would have complained. `CastSpellNoQueue(spellId, spellBook [, unit])` and `CastSpellByNameNoQueue(name [, unit])`: the plain cast, which is the honest mapping and not a stub — benilla has no spell queue to bypass, so "cast this now, do not queue it" is exactly what happens. The point of them is the first argument: a **spell id** where stock `CastSpell` takes a book slot. `"mouseover"` routes to the queue SuperWoW's `CastSpellByName(name, "CLICK")` already uses. The six `NP_EnableUnitEventsX` switches are registered stored-only, one step further back than the four `NP_Enable*` rows beside them: benilla raises no GUID-keyed unit event at all, so there is no stream for a token filter to narrow. Registering them stops the unknown-CVar warning and lets `SuperCleveRoidMacros`'s writes persist; it claims nothing about the events arriving, and `cvars.rs`'s own reader gate carries that reason. ui: six of nampower's reads, and the item-icon probe behind two of them
First tranche off the DLL work list. The method that produced it is worth recording with the code: `SuperCleveRoidMacros`'s `NampowerAPI.lua` is a capability registry — a `VERSION_REQUIREMENTS` table of every nampower name with its minimum version, reached through `HasFeature`, which tests the version **and** `_G[name] ~= nil`. So none of this was broken, and raising `GetNampowerVersion` would not have helped: the only honest way to make one of those features live is to define the global. - `PlayerIsMoving()`, `PlayerIsRooted()`, `PlayerIsSwimming()` — `1` or nil, as upstream's own doc lines state, never a boolean. All three read the per-tick posture snapshot `SelfMovement` already carries, which gains `rooted` (`MOVEFLAG_ROOT`) and `moving` (any of the six movement bits, the keyboard turns included — they are input to the same word the client tests, and a turn in place does interrupt a cast). - `IsAuraHidden(spellId)` — from a new `SpellLookup::hidden_aura`, filled with exactly `ui_aura::shown_in_aura_ui`'s predicate inverted, so it cannot contradict the aura list an addon reads beside it. An unknown spell is nil: "not hidden" is the honest answer about an aura this client knows nothing about, and the lists show a catalog miss too. - `GetItemIconTexture(itemId)` — two hops, because an item template carries a display id and not an icon: the cache row's `displayInfoID`, then `ItemDisplayInfo`'s `Icon` through a new `ItemIconProbe`. A known item with no display row is nil (a data gap); an item the cache has never seen raises and records the ask, as every `item_record` verb here does. ClassicAPI's `GetItemIcon` wants the same probe, which is why it is a probe and not a closure. - `GetTrinkets()` — slots 13 and 14 in `GetEquippedItem`'s own row shape, an empty slot absent rather than nil-valued, since the consumer walks it with `if t[i] then`. Each is in `reference_surface.rs`'s `allowed_beyond_1_12` with why 1.12 has no spelling to prefer — the client reads its own movement word and tells Lua nothing, applies the aura attribute test inside `UnitBuff`/`UnitDebuff` without exposing either, and can only reach an item icon through a bag slot it already holds. Draw flight masters: C_TaxiMap.GetTaxiNodesForMap over TaxiNodes.dbc
grom: "can't see flight master location marks, even tho I have them on."
Nothing was broken — the layer was silently empty. pfQuest-octo has deleted its
shipped pfDB.meta.flight table in favour of this call (db/meta.lua:181 is a stub
whose comment says the data "always comes live from the client (ClassicAPI)"),
and SearchFlightNodes opens with
if not (C_TaxiMap and C_TaxiMap.GetTaxiNodesForMap) then return maps end
so with the namespace absent the option stays ticked, no error is raised, and no
icon is ever drawn. Same silent-by-construction shape as C_Map.GetAreas, same
consumer.
The contract is half read off the bundled ClassicAPI.dll's string pool
(C_TaxiMap, GetTaxiNodesForMap, nodeID, faction, reachable, state and the
FlightPathFaction/FlightPathState enum names) and half off the caller: the
areaID/mapX/mapY triple is not separately visible there, since the pool holds
one copy of each string and C_Map.GetAreaTriggerInfo already uses all three, so
for those SearchFlightNodes itself is the authority. It reads six fields, gates
on `node.areaID and node.mapX and node.mapY`, and feeds the pair into
pfMap:AddNode as meta.x/meta.y, which UpdateNodes divides by 100 — so they are
percentages of the zone rect. Both files say which half is which.
Faction comes from the two MountCreatureID columns, the reference's own gate
(0x4a2650 asks for the mount of the player's half): one column filled is that
faction, both is neutral, and neither means the row is not a flight master at
all — on this install those are exactly the eight Transport/Ferry/zeppelin
endpoints, and passing them on would put "Flight Master" pins on the Menethil
docks.
Attributing a node to a zone needed the file's own names. Geometry over
WorldMapArea boxes proposes — these are axis-aligned boxes around irregular
zones, so a node near a border sits inside two or three of them — but no purely
geometric rule works: "smallest box" misfiled a dozen of ~70 rows (Crossroads
under Mulgore, Aerie Peak under Alterac Mountains), and "most central box",
much better and what zones_at now sorts by, still loses Talonbranch Glade to
Darkshore by about one percent of inset. TaxiNodes.dbc names its rows
"<place>, <zone>" and a city row leads with the city, which is itself a zone, so
trying each comma-separated part against the candidates gets Ironforge over Dun
Morogh *and* Felwood over Darkshore from one rule. zones_at also reaches the
instance-map list, so Alterac Valley's two nodes place on the battleground map
instead of nowhere.
Seeded before the interface loads, after the map catalog it reads the rects
from. That deadline is tighter than file scope: pfQuest replays its saved
tracking selections once on PLAYER_ENTERING_WORLD and then unregisters every
event (database.lua:131-151), so a push one frame later is a push after the only
read.
Verified against the real addon offline, not just by unit test:
SearchFlightNodes now adds 69 nodes through the probe harness. Three tests pin
the rule against the DBC itself — the capitals and the border nodes by hand, and
every named row held to the zone its own name claims, which is the test that
rejected both earlier geometric rules. It also pins the four rows that name no
zone, three of which are this realm's own additions (Northshire Abbey and two
Darkshore canoe routes), so the next custom node shows up as a failing
assertion rather than a pin in the wrong zone.

compat: nampower's equipment and item-cache getters, for the character panel
"then we gotta fix bettercharacterpanel, that one is driving me nuts."
BetterCharacterPanel is built on five nampower getters and had none of them.
`GetEquippedItem` was 8 raises in one session of his log; the other four failed
inside the addon's own `pcall`s, so its item-level column, quality colours,
missing-enchant warning and two-hand test were all dead at once. DoiteAuras
reads the same getter in six places.
The spec is the installed `nampower.dll` itself rather than inference, which is
what unblocked this — the earlier note here said to find the upstream spec
first, and the DLL *is* the spec:
- its usage strings give the signatures,
- "Slot must be a number between 1 and 19" gives the band, so the slots are
1.12's own `GetInventoryItemLink` numbering and `NampowerAPI.lua`'s
`slot - 1` in `IsItemInSlot` is that shim's bug, not the contract,
- its string pool gives the key names in order, and
- "Item not found in DBCache" is a raise, which is exactly why the addon
`pcall`s these three and calls `GetEquippedItem` bare.
`itemLevel` is the one field 1.12 cannot reach at all: `GetItemInfo`'s fourth
value is the *required* level, and later clients are the ones that insert
`itemLevel` there — so the panel's item-level column had no possible source
before this. The cache row now carries it, with `buyPrice` and `displayInfoID`
beside it, and an equipped item carries the raw descriptor numbers the tooltip's
resolved enchant lines could not answer (an id whose `SpellItemEnchantment` row
hides its name is still an id).
Fields left absent rather than guessed are listed in code and in
`docs/ADDON_COMPAT.md`; nothing installed reads any of them.

compat: publish LOCALIZED_CLASS_NAMES_MALE/_FEMALE, the table tInvert exists to flip
Half this pair was already here. `ClassInfo::class_file`'s own doc says the token is what FrameXML keys `RAID_CLASS_COLORS` and `LOCALIZED_CLASS_NAMES_MALE` on, and `compat/classic_api/lua_ext.rs`'s `tInvert` names pfUI's `pfUI.lua:227` as the reason it exists — the line that inverts exactly this table. The table itself was never published, so that line inverted `nil`. Measured against the live chain: `pfUI.env.L["class"]` holds **0 entries**, and `L["class"]["Warrior"]` is nil. Every lookup through it then finds no class and skips, silently, because the consumer tests `if class then` — so the guild roster lost its name colours and class icons (`modules/socialmod.lua:18`), the friends list lost the same, and `modules/panel.lua:359` fell back to white. Chat stayed coloured throughout, which is what made it look like a pfUI setting rather than a missing global. Published from the class table the app already feeds for `C_CreatureInfo.GetClassInfo`, at that same feed, so there is one source for the names and no second reader of the DBC. Both tables carry the same string: 1.12's `ChrClasses.dbc` has one name column, so the gendered pair later clients ship cannot be derived from this data — a copy is what it honestly supports, and omitting `_FEMALE` would hand a caller nil where its sibling answers. A run that never feeds the table leaves both absent rather than empty. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01SgstFWtn1RxEJ5kVrpgYwn |

SetFont gates as 1.12.1 does; SetSpacing on every text table (#946)
`SetFont` raised on a `false` flags argument and wrote the height even when the load failed, and only SimpleHTML had `SetSpacing`/`GetSpacing`, so SpellAlert's message frame raised in its OnLoad. In 1.12.1 `SetFont` (`0x79f210`, the FontString's `0x79d4f0`) reads flags only when `lua_isstring` (`0x79f287`), writes them on every successful load (`0x79f334`), and writes nothing on a failed load or a height ≤ 0 (`0x79f361`, `0x79f2f4`, `0x771571`). Every text table has the spacing pair (`0x79fb40`/`0x79fbe0`; the FontString's clamps at `0x772240`); the line step adds the gap rounded up to a device pixel (`0x5c2070`, `0x5cdc20`), as do the message frames (`0x78899e`, `0x785f06`) and EditBox rows (`0x77d133`). All seven SetFont bindings share these gates and ask the host's font probe; spacing is stored, inherited, measured and drawn on all six tables. Tests bite on the parent for each. One anchor slot per point; SetPoint skips an unchanged anchor (#934)
Anchors were a list: SetPoint re-applied an unchanged anchor, GetPoint counted in the order points were set and answered five nils past the last, and the cursor tooltip replaced every anchor each frame. In 1.12.1 a frame holds one anchor per point. SetPoint (`0x767c70`) returns at `0x767d5e` with no store and no layout queue when that point's anchor has the same target and relative point and both offsets differ by under 2⁻²² layout units (`[0x8029d4]`). GetPoint (`0x7a2340`) walks the nine slots in point order and pushes nothing past the last (`0x7a240d`). The `ANCHOR_CURSOR` update sets BOTTOM alone (`0x530b20`). Anchors are now nine slots, and SetPoint, GetPoint and the cursor update follow those rules. Tests: an unchanged re-set and an in-threshold offset touch no layout, GetPoint order and indexes, a cursor tooltip keeps an addon's second point. UnitCreatureType answers the one resolver's type for every unit, so a cat-form druid or a Ghost Wolf shaman is a Beast: the snapshot takes the form, then the template, then the race (0x605570, 0x51a2bc) (#681)
`UnitCreatureType` read only a creature's template type, and fell back to "Humanoid" for a player. The form stage was not built. So a druid in cat, bear, travel or aquatic form and a shaman in Ghost Wolf all answered "Humanoid", where 1.12.1 answers "Beast". `UnitCreatureType 0x51a280` names the type the resolver `0x605570` returns, and 0 names nil (`0x51a2c3`). The resolver tries three stages in order: 1. **Form:** the form byte (`UNIT_FIELD_BYTES_1` byte 2) indexes `SpellShapeshiftForm.dbc` column 12, which applies only above 0 (`0x60559a`). 2. **Template:** else the cached creature record (`0x6055a8`). 3. **Race:** else the race's `ChrRaces.dbc` type (`0x6055ca`). A token naming no unit answers nil (`0x51a2b8`). The unit tooltip's level line takes the type only for a non-player (`0x52a4a6`). Changes: - `ui_unit::snapshot` sets `creature_type_name` for every unit through the shared `CreatureTypeSources::of`: players, creatures, pets and group tokens alike. `enrich_unit` no longer sets it. - `UnitCreatureType` reads that field, with no fallback. - The feeds at Bevy's parameter limit carry the sources in a `SnapshotTables` param. - A player's tooltip level line is unchanged, since it reads race and class. Behaviour that now matches the reference beyond the issue: - a held pet, `partypetN` and `raidpetN` answer their template's type rather than nil; - a party member in a form reads the form's type; - a roster member with no object, and the pre-arrival player seat, answer nil. Tests: - `the_shipped_forms_name_a_beast_or_fall_through_to_the_race` reads the real `SpellShapeshiftForm.dbc`. - `unit_creature_type_names_the_form_before_the_race_and_a_creature_its_template` runs `feed_units` and asks the Lua binding. - Mouseover, party, raid and pet feeders each have a test. - `a_players_level_line_ignores_the_snapshots_creature_type`. The host's clock, zone texts, game clock and error-handler slot leave _G, and the getters over them answer the reference's shapes (#580)
The host's state leaves `_G`: the eleven `__benilla_*` globals, which any addon could read and overwrite, move into the host's model (and, for the error handler, the Lua registry, as the reference keeps it), and the getters over them are Rust bindings answering the reference's shapes. - `GetTime` returns one number (`0x515ea0`), and `GetGameTime` returns hour then minute (`0x515ee0`). The tick advances the model clock, and every cooldown and buff reader reads it. - `GetZoneText`, `GetRealZoneText`, `GetSubZoneText` and `GetMinimapZoneText` always answer a string, `""` when unset (`0x48a0a0`-`0x48a100`). `GetZonePVPInfo` answers three values (`0x48d540`). - `seterrorhandler`/`geterrorhandler` work over a registry slot that starts empty, as the reference's does (`0x7039e0`, `0x702950`, `0x702900`). A non-function raises `Usage: seterrorhandler(errfunc)`. The engine dispatches caught errors through the slot, not through the global (`0x703b40`). The stock `BasicControls.xml` installs `_ERRORMESSAGE` before any addon, so play is unchanged. - The engine's surface allowlist now holds only `_G`. `scripts/api-coverage.sh` no longer excuses `__` names. Verified: - New tests show each of the eleven names absent from `_G` and that writing it changes nothing. The VM speaks 1.12 alone: the Era globals and the uncalled hooks are gone, the engine's tooltip seams are Rust calls, strata/draw-layer/state-texture/sound/OnClick/quest-item/pickup take their 1.12 shapes, and the surface gate covers the production load (#573)
The Lua VM keeps no surface the 1.12.1 client lacks. - **Removed:** the nine Era-only globals: `UnitAura`, `CancelUnitBuff`, `GetCursorInfo`, `GetInventoryItemID`, `GetPlayerFacing`, `GetTradePartnerName`, `IsGossipOptionCoded`, `UnitIsAFK`, `UnitIsDND`. - **Hooks off Lua:** `GameTooltip:BenillaSetItemById` and `:BenillaGetTooltipOwner` are replaced by Rust-side calls. The uncalled `Benilla*` hooks are deleted. - **Frame strata:** `SetFrameStrata` knows the reference's eight strata and raises its message for any other (`0x774450`). - **`SetDrawLayer`** reads the layer name alone (`0x79a780`). - **`Set<State>Texture`** reads a number as a path (`0x781b23`); there is no colour form. - **`PlaySound`** names a kit and returns nothing (`0x4586d0`). `PlaySoundFile` returns one value (`0x458780`); benilla answers 1, a recorded deviation, since it plays after the call. - **`OnClick`** sets only `arg1` (`0x779540`). - **Quest getters:** `GetQuestItemInfo` and the quest-log reward and choice getters answer the reference's five values and its miss behaviour (`0x501f80`, `0x4e0b00`, `0x4e0cf0`). - **`PickupContainerItem`** returns nothing (`0x4f9b30`). - **Surface gates:** the bare VM's globals and every widget class's methods are held to `reference/1.12-globals.tsv` with one commented allowlist. A new gate on the full production load (core plus layer) allows beyond that only the layer's `Benilla`-prefixed globals. Verified: - A test per removal and per corrected form; a scripted undo of each fails its test. - Each gate fails on a re-added name. - `scripts/gates.sh` and `scripts/smoke.sh` are green. - A live run showed the same warnings and 0 script errors before and after. - In the 219-addon corpus, AckisRecipeList's bundled AceGUI-3.0 and Roid-Macros' Grid extension now behave as they do on 1.12.1. The nameplate verbs write two runtime bits, cleared at world entry, and the setting lives in FrameXML's saved variables, not two CVars (#571)
The nameplate verbs now answer as the reference's (`0x489450`-`0x489480`): they flip bits `0x1` (enemy) and `0x8` (friend) of runtime state, write no CVar, and world entry clears both (`0x401639` → `0x6033c0`, after `VARIABLES_LOADED`). The setting persists only through FrameXML's `NAMEPLATES_ON`/`FRIENDNAMEPLATES_ON`, as on 1.12.1. - The `nameplateShowEnemies`/`nameplateShowFriends` CVar rows and the host's plate push are gone. A player's saved plate setting in `config.toml` moves once into the saved variables at the first world entry. - benilla's layer keeps what players see today. Its `UpdateNameplates` fix drops the stock show-then-hide (`UIOptionsFrame.lua:775-776`), and it registers `FRIENDNAMEPLATES_ON` for saving, which the stock file never does (`:180-183`). So plates turned on come back after login. - With the layer off, benilla behaves as 1.12.1: friendly plates are off after entry. - The V keys flip the verb and the saved global together. V and Shift-V keep their recorded deviation; #570 tracks moving the binding table onto the stock `Bindings.xml`. Verified: - New tests for the verbs, the entry clear, the stock-only and layered persistence across entry and reload, the V keys and the one-time migration, each failing with its change undone. - `scripts/gates.sh` and `scripts/smoke.sh` are green. - A live run with `WOW_GM=off` turned both kinds on, relogged and read both back, from the file too. benilla's layer speaks the 1.12 API alone: handlers take this and no arguments, GetBinding answers the 1.12 list, the Key Bindings page captures through its window, /errors chains the error handler, and the host hooks leave the VM (#569)
benilla's layer now uses only the 1.12 API and the 1.12 Lua forms, and the host hooks it used are gone from the VM. - **The VM calls handlers as 1.12.1 does.** A handler body is compiled as the chunk itself, so `self` in it is an ordinary global (`0x704c70`). A handler is called with no arguments (`0x705199`). The loader reads no `function=` attribute. - **`GetBinding`/`GetNumBindings` answer the 1.12 list** (`0x4b7f60`): `HEADER_*` section rows, plus every key bound to a command, with no category column. The stock `KeyBindingFrame` now shows its section headers and both key columns. - **The Key Bindings page captures keys through its own window**, as `Blizzard_BindingUI` does: the frame's `OnKeyDown` for keys, clicks for mouse buttons, and the wheel. It takes the `Benilla` prefix, so loading the stock binding addon no longer breaks it. The UI pointer feed now hands frames mouse buttons 4 and 5. - **`/errors` keeps its log by chaining the Lua error handler**, and the stock ScriptErrors dialog is unchanged. Load failures that never raise now print one chat line each at world entry. - **Slash commands:** `/reload` and `/errors` are `SlashCmdList` rows in the layer. `/convertraid` is gone; 1.12.1 has no such command. The dev commands are host rows in dev builds only, so a player build answers them with the unknown-command line once. - **Naming:** every global the layer defines is `Benilla`-prefixed. `BenillaBindCapture`, `KeyBindings_OnHostKey`, the three script-error globals and `SubmitChatInput` are removed. Verified: - New tests for each rule and each removed surface; 16 mutations each fail a test. - Region dumps of the Options window (general page, Key Bindings, armed) are identical before and after. - `scripts/gates.sh` and `scripts/smoke.sh` are green. - A live run bound a key, a Shift chord and the middle button through the page, and opened `/errors`. The stock video options window opens, saves, restores defaults and cancels clean: its CVars are registered, spellEffectLevel drives the particle and shard rates, and the video pairs, frame enumeration and client queries are defined (#565)
The stock video options window (`OptionsFrame`, off the player's chain) now opens, saves, restores defaults and cancels with no Lua error, as on 1.12.1. - The CVars it reads are registered at the reference's defaults: `SmallCull` "0.04" (`0x68854a`), `shadowLevel` "1" (`0x6885bc`), `baseMip` "0" (`0x6887aa`), `DesktopGamma` "0" (`0x402d4d`), `spellEffectLevel` "2" (`0x688900`), plus `doodadAnim` and `texLodBias`, which the new getters read. `SetWorldDetail` keeps `SmallCull` in step (`0x488e56`), and the wrong comment that called the getter its only reader is gone. - `spellEffectLevel`'s handler (`0x689510`): the value is clamped to 0-2, "Spell effect level set to %d." is printed, the particle emission scalar is set to 0.33/0.66/1.0, and the shard emitter's rate follows the level (`0x6eb95e`). - The 21 functions #337 lists: the six video getter/setter pairs (`0x488ec0`-`0x489300`), `GetNumFrames`/`EnumerateFrames` in creation order (`0x705f00`, `0x705f60`), and the client queries, including `GetDebugStats` and `OpeningCinematic`'s empty `CMSG_OPENING_CINEMATIC` (0xf9, `0x48c8c9`). Verified: a headless test walks the stock window's 18 boxes and 9 sliders, then Okay, Defaults and Cancel, with no error (it fails on main at `OptionsFrame.lua:146`), plus unit tests for each binding and handler; 12 mutations each fail a test. A live run opened the window, saved, restored defaults and cancelled with no Lua error. `scripts/gates.sh` green. Built on macOS; no platform seam touched. String literals in benilla-ui, -world and -formats carry no record numbers (#299)
Part of #92, for `benilla-ui`, `benilla-world` and `benilla-formats`. - 88 string literals drop private record and bug numbers, the dates of private incidents, and the workspace's name for the maintainer. They are assert and panic texts, log and printout lines, the `--` comments of the Lua prelude and of test fixtures, and one Lua assert. Each keeps its fact in its own words. - Two test names lose their numbers: `burning_steppes_lava_builds_a_magma_surface_at_the_reported_pin` and `join_channel_by_name_answers_the_row_custom_and_nil_legs`. - A test-only event, `B271_PROBE`, is now `ERROR_PROBE` in the two crates that register and fire it. A fixture's error text in `benilla-app`'s `ui_script` tests drops its bug number, together with the assertion that reads it. - Doc comments that named a client function by a disassembler's label (`FUN_0068a830`) now give its address, in `benilla-formats`, `benilla-assets` and one `benilla-app` file. - Every literal change keeps each literal's line count, proven with comments stripped and every literal masked. The two renamed tests differ only in their names. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Comments in benilla-ui: one line of fact each, no history, no record numbers (#143)
Part of #41: the comments of `benilla-ui` (the Lua UI engine, its FrameXML loader and its widgets) are rewritten to the rule in `docs/METHOD.md`, which is what the code does and the reference fact behind it, in a line. 43,140 comment lines become 15,161. - **The mechanical strip.** The citations that were only a private record number go first, and each edit is shown to be a pure removal. - **Wrong facts corrected.** The rewrite corrects the comments that stated wrong facts. Among them: - `0x64a480` is the case-sensitive compare (a byte `repz cmpsb`), and `0x64a4c0` the case-insensitive one. - A frame's id sits at `+0xb0`, not `+0xb4`. `EnableKeyboard`/`IsKeyboardEnabled` are `0x776ec0`/`0x776f90`. - A region's unpinned edge has no fallback to its owner's rect: the owner supplies only the scale. - `$parent` expands to the nearest named ancestor, or "Top" when none is named (`0x76c5b0`), not simply to the parent. - A StatusBar fills from its internal normalised fraction, not from `GetValue()`. - The addresses of `StartDuel` and `StartDuelUnit` were swapped. - Many "untraced" notes now give the traced reference fact: the drag threshold, the per-grip sizing edges, the empty-`autoFocus` skip, and `SetTexCoordModifiesRect`'s default. - Stock FrameXML line citations are checked against the stock 1.12 files and corrected. `ref-` file names become the stock file names. - **Deviation labels.** "Deviation:" now marks only a choice with a reason. A surface that exists only for the retired Era addon target says so plainly: it is not 1.12. - **Verification.** Every file strips to identical code, and `cargo fmt --check` is clean. Nine second readers compared every file old against new, restored the facts the rewrite had dropped, and checked each new citation against the code, the stock files, vmangos and the reference. Behaviour differences the rewrite surfaced are filed as their own issues (#131–#142), and more are being validated. The comments here state what the code does. String literals are untouched; they are #92. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

comments cite the reference by address, not by private note (#30)
Comments that pointed into the maintainer's private reverse-engineering notes (a note by name, a path, a section or finding id, the analysis's own name for a client function, a process word) now carry the fact itself, cited by the reference client's address, by vmangos file and line, or as "the reference". Nobody outside could follow those pointers. Comment text only, plus the test-assert and log strings that carried the same pointers. No claim changes: a comment the notes have since corrected keeps its wording here, and correcting it is separate work. The two reference generators, `scripts/gen-reference-globals.py` and `scripts/gen-reference-verb-events.py`, named the private notes' layout to find their inputs. They now take the input files as arguments (`--capture`, `--framexml`, `--names`, `--extents`, `--disasm`). Run on the same inputs, both write the committed tables row for row; only the two header lines that named the old environment variable change. Checked per file: - the code is identical: each file with its comments stripped compares equal before and after; a changed string literal is compared under a mask that proves only literal text moved and every literal kept its line count; - no client address the old text cited was dropped; - a second reviewer checked every added address against its derivation; - a detector for the notes' names, paths, ids, function names and process words finds none left; - `scripts/gates.sh` is green. plate text settles, mobs stop sinking, and select goes with Lua 5.1
- a nameplate's name and level stop popping a pixel every other step as the plate slides, and the whole plate no longer jumps 19 px to the top of the screen on a rounding tie; the chat bubble takes the same fix (2172) - creatures and other players stop sinking through the ground while the world is still streaming in, where a Stormwind patroller had been 31 yd under its street: a body our world cannot yet answer for holds the server's pose (2174) - select and the string metatable are gone, as in 1.12's Lua 5.0: pfUI's heal prediction parses its messages with the right format, BuffCheck2's own select wins its fallback, and a method call on a string raises the reference's own error (2171) - the camera's water collision comes back out for now: with the pivot a hair under the plane, a surface swimmer's camera snapped in and out against the waterline, so the boom ignores water again (2173) Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

pfUI's hdgraphic runs, the plates settle, and the water camera comes out
- pfUI's hdgraphic module runs: SetWorldDetail and GetWorldDetail are real verbs with the reference's three stops, and the near clip plane is a live setting at 0.100 yd rather than a frozen 0.111 (2163) - nameplates stop drawing a black box on hover or click, stop jittering a frame behind a moving creature, and a unit that walks into range later gets its plate; a unit with no level wears no skull, and the wheel zooms over a plate (2168) - the faint one-pixel box around every letter of a magnified overhead name is gone, each glyph now carrying its own transparent padding; interface text drawn at 1:1 is byte-identical (2169) - the camera's water collision comes back out for now: its pivot corridor dropped the camera a yard in one frame at head depth, which is the snapping reported around the surface while swimming (2165) Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

- the mail window's send tab takes typing again: the subject, body and money boxes were taking no input while the recipient box swallowed every key, and a sent letter clears its subject and item icon instead of putting them straight back (2145) - seven events fire the way the reference does: UNIT_DYNAMIC_FLAGS fires at all, swapping two identical stacks between bank slots fires PLAYERBANKSLOTS_CHANGED twice, the pet sheet's training points repaint, and ITEM_LOCK_CHANGED loses its invented arguments (2140) - nine widget methods 1.12 addons probe for are in: ShaguTweaks stops recolouring textures the reference leaves alone, pfUI and _Nameplates stop raising on a tooltip's GetAnchorType, and 63 AceEvent addons get RegisterAllEvents (2142) - six post-1.12 methods leave the widget surface (SetSize, SetShown, HasFocus, SetFormattedText and two tooltip verbs), so an addon reaching for a later client's API finds what a real 1.12 client gives it (2142, 2146) Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

a hundred stale claims retire, and text= was never a divergence
- a comment that justifies code by an engine difference is a claim with an expiry date, and the tree had ~96 expired ones across `assets/ui`, `ui_script/` and `benilla-ui` — a hygiene pass, no behaviour change: dangling `Benilla*` names with zero definitions (`BenillaMoney_*` at thirteen sites after 1937/1962 converged the coin cluster onto the stock `SmallMoneyFrameTemplate`; `BenillaGossipRow_Resize`, `BenillaErrorsFrame_AddMessage`, the digit feed 1285 deleted, `BenillaMerchantItem_OnClick` and three more), "the shipped `assets/ui/<X>.xml`" for thirty-odd files the directory no longer holds — it holds nine — each site now naming the chain file that actually loads, `UiPanels.xml` in the present tense after 1988 took the panel manager and the dialog engine stock, and expired self-deprecation: SimpleHTML "a widget kind we do not have" (1337 built it), "benilla has no console" (1948 bound `ConsoleExec`), `Model`'s "seven verbs not published yet" and "`ClearFog` is a guess" (all 23 are published, the carve sits 500 lines below, `UNBUILT` has been `[&str; 0]` since 2027), `frame_flag_gate`'s doc describing four groups of accepted mouse divergences over a `KNOWN` list that is empty (the empty array and its enforcement stay), five comments saying key delivery is not gated on `keyboard_enabled` where `script::keyboard`'s walk filters on exactly that field (1319), `SetRaidTarget` called a verb this house lacks beside an assert that its intent IS queued (1820), two questlog tests deferring to a screenshot for `GetPoint`/`IsVisible` the regions already answer, `benilla.toc`'s "trade still needs four engine verbs" (all four bound, 1966) and its ping `Model`s "this engine draws no pixels for" (2013 renders `MinimapPing.mdx` itself), and `rig_anim`'s `set_paused` naming a booth caller it does not have; and the code the prose was propping up goes with it: `GameMenuFrame.xml`'s six `<OnLoad>` label setters, because `text=` on a `<Button>` is a global-string lookup at the loader's attribute step (0995, built 61 seconds before the file was written) — the buttons carry `text="LOGOUT"`/`"EXIT_GAME"`/`"MACROS"`/`"RETURN_TO_GAME"`/`"MAIN_MENU"` as the reference's own do; `ScriptLogFrame`'s five authored close-button lines, now `inherits="UIPanelCloseButton"` off the chain's `UIPanelTemplates.xml` seated 757 lines above it (1846); and the editbox's 22-line "gap" doc claiming only the self-acquire `autoFocus` path is built and its `false` default unverified — path 1 is 1686's `visibility_focus`, and the default is `true`, byte-read off `flags = 1` at `0x779a29`/`0x779a2e`, so the test named `autofocus_does_not_focus_on_show…` is renamed for what it actually pins (2044) - the `text=` divergence never existed: `resolve_text`'s doc had claimed since 0068 that falling back to the raw attribute on a GlobalStrings miss was "one deliberate divergence" from a reference that draws the empty string, and read at the byte it is the reference's own behaviour — `FrameScript_GetText 0x703bf0` does return a pre-seeded empty string (`0x882748`) when the global is not a string, but that return never reaches a label, because all three `text=` readers image-wide test it and substitute the raw attribute: `Button::LoadXML` at `0x778c07` (`0x778c31 mov eax, esi`), `CSimpleFontString::LoadXML` at `0x771006` byte-identically, and `0x7292a6`, which pushes `edi` on the empty arm; so the loader changes nothing, the two test comments that had called `PetLevelText`'s "Level level race class" placeholder and `CLOSE` our divergence now name the reference's arm (a real 1.12 client draws them too), and what IS ours is the extra warning on a key-shaped miss (0983 → 0991), a strict addition; beside it, `GetEffectiveScale`'s root factor is 1 not because "benilla has no `uiScale` CVar" — 1804 registered one, default 0.9 — but because the dial is applied at the raster seam, `768/uiScale` UI units of virtual-screen height rather than a scale on `UIParent`, so every coordinate the VM hands Lua is already in those units and the reference's `GetCursorPosition()/GetEffectiveScale()` transcriptions convert correctly with a root of 1 (2044) Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

the cooldown goes stock, early-Z comes back, and lists reach the end
- a size-less `<Model>` pane's rect is its file's box in layout units: the reference's geometry overrides (`0x76d080`/`0x76d0d0`) answer the bbox extent whenever no size is authored, `bboxExtent · 768·√(a²+1) · layoutScale` FrameXML units (`1280 · extent` at 4:3), written into the pane's layout input when the file's facts land, re-derived on an aspect change, and ended for good by any authored size; `SetPosition` is the same unit, which is how `0x4a7b20` centres the arrow at `½·GetWidth, ½·GetHeight` through the override — so the map arrow's sprite arm and its hand-sized 33.6 px footprint go (its rect is `0.0262 × 0.0263` layout units, 33.5 × 33.7 FrameXML units at 4:3, 41.0 × 41.2 at 16:9), and the stock `ItemAnim` pane plays the item push unadapted (`ReplaceIconTexture` on the type-14 batch, the 1000 ms clamp, the stock `OnAnimFinished`), `ContainerFrameAdapters.xml` losing 0887's Lua card and its hand-measured 42.41 × 124.72 rect — the implicit one at 16:9 — and keeping the keyring fork and the three bag verbs (2015); and the cooldown is the reference's own model: the texture-transform law `uv' = R_q((uv + t − p) ⊙ s) + p`, `p = (½, ½)`, the raw quaternion component-lerped and never normalised, is one function (`uv_transform`) with the shader's UV fold as its twin — rotation and scale tracks bake per file sequence slot beside the translation, the mat-anim table gains an affine row `[cos − 1, sin, sx − 1, sy − 1]` on `anim_slots.z` whose identity is the zero row so every static batch reads exactly what it did, and a UI tile clones the twin material per animated batch and writes both rows every frame off the pane's play head, never the world clock; the stock `Cooldown.xml` runs off the chain on 2007's two handlers, the file's four quadrant quads turned by their own rotation tracks (`0 → −90°` over each quadrant's 250 ms window, clockwise from 12 o'clock) and its alpha tracks revealing the star for the flash; retired: the native `Cooldown` widget and `SetCooldown` (an Era API 1.12 never had — `CreateFrame("Cooldown")` is the reference's unknown-type refusal now), the loader's `Model → Cooldown` substitution, the app's hand-built pie and star, and our `Cooldown.xml`; `assets/ui` is eight files (2019)
- `UpdateMapHighlight` gets its zone-level exits (B360): at zone zoom ours returned the nil tail for every cursor position, so hovering Deadwind Pass from Duskwood showed no label where 1.12 shows "Deadwind Pass"; the reference's `0x4a7fa0` runs two lookups at zone level and answers a NAME only — first the current zone's exploration-gated overlay list (the builder at `0x4a6ad9` gating on the explored byte), each row's HitRect scaled by 1/1002 and 1/668 against the normalized cursor, edges inclusive, the first hit naming its Area1, then the continent grid re-windowed through the displayed zone's own rect, naming the neighbouring zone or city and nothing for the displayed zone itself — and only the name-only tail is reachable from there, fileName nil and the six coords zero, so the stock frame hides the highlight quad, as the director's own 1.12 shot shows; and `SetVerticalScroll` stores the offset as given (B370, B363): the reference's `0x786db0` compares the new offset against the old and writes it to `[+0x328]` verbatim, `0x787100` re-anchors the scroll child off it, and the range at `[+0x320]` is never read on that path — every clamp the reference exhibits is FrameXML's, through the scroll bar's `[min, max]`; ours clamped into `[0, GetVerticalScrollRange()]`, the child's overflow past the FRAME, which is 40 px short of where `FauxScrollFrame_Update` sends the bar on the 220-tall skills list (three rows lost) and 15 px short on the 287-tall who list (one); the setter fires `OnVerticalScroll` only on a change, as the bytes do, `BenillaScroll_Step` bounds its wheel in Lua where the reference's handler does, and the ScrollFrame kind's prose stops calling its offset unpinned (2017)
- overdraw's cheap half, the sky first: since 0588 every sky element wrote `frag_depth = 0.0`, which costs a pipeline its early-Z, so on an outdoor frame every full-screen dome fragment under the ground and the buildings was shaded in full (the gradient's `asin`, `atan2` and eight table lookups at dawn and dusk) and thrown away; one shared `sky_vertex.wgsl` — bevy's mesh vertex verbatim plus `out.position.z = 0.0` — is now the vertex stage of the gradient dome, the cloud dome, the star patches and the celestial discs and glares, and the model lane's `WOW_SKY_DEPTH` branch moves from its fragment to its vertex, so no sky fragment declares `frag_depth` and the rasterizer rejects the covered screen before the shader runs; every sky `specialize` zeroes the rasterizer bias constant the `sky_order` rung had been leaking into `DepthBiasState::constant`, harmless only while the fragment overwrote its depth, and the prose beside the pin follows it; then the retained `static_gx` pass draws BEFORE bevy's opaque pass (`StartMainPass → static_gx → MainOpaquePass`) — buildings and doodads are the frame's best occluders and a terrain fragment its dearest, six samples a pixel — so walls reject the terrain behind them instead of the reverse, the pass taking the first-use clear with it and the dev depth probe ordered after it; measured on 16 capture scenarios: 14 bit-identical, `northshire-dusk` 1 px and `water-night` 11 px, attributed to exact depth ties on static/terrain silhouettes and last-bit interpolation noise; a depth prepass and near-to-far bins are declined until a journal says where the time goes (2016)
- the grass cut goes per pixel because of a quarter-mip: `0x6813d0` sets `D3DSAMP_MIPMAPLODBIAS = +0.25` on stage 0 (`0x6813f4`) once per frame before the detail-doodad pass — capture-confirmed on all 29 doodad batches, and outside the `[0x6b1000, 0x6b3200)` scan 2004 had called complete; it decides the whole look because the `clutter_cut` probe finds 6 of 31 shipped detail atlases carry a BINARY alpha pyramid (mip 0 has DXT3's 16 levels, every level below exactly two, both starting zones among them), so `a × ramp` degenerates to a global on/off and every texel of a leaf crosses at the same depth — Elwynn's survivor coverage is flat at 47.6 % across the whole 52.5–61.1 yd band, then 0.0 %, while the probe's box-filtered control erodes 47.7 → 20.9 over the same band, so the art has the gradient the shipped pyramid threw away, and `clutter_size` puts the median tuft at 0.92 yd tall, 1.03 yd deep, a full yard for the boundary plane to sweep; the escape is bilinear: full alpha needs a 2×2 all-opaque texel neighbourhood, and those run out between mip 2 and 3 (179/56/10/0/0/0 on the dominant Elwynn cell), so the reference's λ ≈ 2.9–3.3 sits past the cliff and the tuft erodes continuously — 2.2 % of a tuft's pixels leave in the last half-yard with the bias, 11.6 % without, 24.2 % one mip sharper; wgpu has no sampler LOD bias, so the clutter lane re-samples base colour at `view.mip_bias + 0.25`, keeping the sampler every other model batch shares at the reference's 0; ruled out on the way: our BLP decoder (all nine uploaded levels byte-identical against the archive's 52 793 BLP2s), mip regeneration, the `has_mipmaps` byte's value 2 (a plain boolean, an authoring marker), anisotropy and geometry; what it does not fix is resolution-dependent, and so is the reference's own look — λ with the bias is 3.22 at the capture's 648p but 2.48 at 1080p and 1.48 at 2160p, so at a modern resolution the reference itself pops leaf by leaf, and scaling the bias with the viewport is one reversible line left for a look call (2021)

the tooltip and five windows go stock, and the battleground keeps score
- the tooltip is the reference's own file: `GameTooltip.xml` loads off the chain, ours is deleted, and every verb it calls was already bound, so this is a plain swap; retired with it: the `$parentThicken` plate fill that thickened the plate from the art's ~73% to ~84% opacity — the reference's plate is the raw `UI-Tooltip-Background` tint, and that is what ships; the one engine fact the transcription had been hiding: the reference's instance declares no size, and a frame with one anchor and no size resolves to NO rect under the reference's own layout law — our declared size had been a harness crutch (1968); and the dressing room goes stock with `<DressUpModel>` as a widget kind (factory `0x495c00`): a `PlayerModel` plus its own `Undress`/`Dress`/`TryOn`, where `Undress` strips the body and not the hands, and Close is read off the window since the stock OnHide queues nothing (1969) - the mail window and the auction house are the reference's own: `MailFrame.xml` loads off the chain and brings the stationery picker, invoice pane and autocomplete ours had left out; the stationery family is built off wow-re's carve over a list computed off `Stationery.dbc` rows × the player's bags (`0x622270`, not the bank); the selection rides `CMSG_SEND_MAIL` field 6 and a send with none silently aborts; its two events fire where the client fires them (1970); `Blizzard_AuctionUI` loads on demand from the `AUCTION_HOUSE_SHOW` arm, and three root fixes its Lua surfaced: `GetAuctionItemClasses()` is static — read at the addon's load, before any session, so the class tree is a login-scoped push; `SetAuctionCompareItem` (`0x535d70`) on the vendor compare's one body; `NEW_AUCTION_UPDATE` resets the create form; its dressing-room pane shares the app's one room (1971) - the battleground keeps score: `WorldStateFrame.xml` loads off the chain and ours is deleted; the stock file is three things where ours was one: the readout, the capture bars, and the battleground scoreboard this client never had, built off wow-re's round — `MSG_PVP_LOG_DATA` both ways (throttled to 5000 ms client-side, `0x4aa170`) and `CMSG_LEAVE_BATTLEFIELD`; eleven score verbs over a board the app pushes, where the filter is a SORT, not a compaction — team first, killing blows descending, deaths ascending, honor descending, name — so the filtered count shrinks while `GetBattlefieldScore` still reaches every wire row; `HIDE_OUTDOOR_WORLD_STATE` joins the options uvar block, a capture point is a bar, and the scoreboard and battlefield-minimap toggles become bound specs at the install's own `SHIFT-SPACE`/`SHIFT-M` (1972) - the trade skill and craft windows go stock as `Blizzard_TradeSkillUI`/`Blizzard_CraftUI` on demand, from the reference's own UIParent arms; our two transcriptions are deleted; the four item-link verbs are built off wow-re's carve on the client's link builder (`0x52adb0`) — zero values on any miss, `GetTradeSkillReagentItemLink` raising Blizzard's own typo'd Usage, kept, and `GetCraftItemLink` the `|Henchant:` link in fixed white; `SetTextColor`'s channels coerce nil to 0 on FontString, Font and Button where ours had raised (1973); and the Inspect, Talent, Macro and Raid addons load on demand — `benilla.toc` lists no `Interface\AddOns` row, and below level 10 the talent addon is never even loaded; the gates walk every reached addon and found `Blizzard_GMSurveyUI`'s four engine verbs nothing answers, reachable only through `GMSURVEY_DISPLAY`, which nothing fires (1889; 1967) Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

the buff bar goes stock, and gossip quests show their level
- the buff bar is the reference's own `BuffFrame.xml`, and the swap found an engine defect: an empty `<OnLoad>` in 1.12's XML is a BLANK that takes an inherited handler away again (seven such sites across four stock files), which our loader read as "none given" — so the two enchant slots would have painted the player's first buff in the corner and cancelled it on right-click; the first fix then had to be corrected at the bytes (`SetScript 0x7025c0` tests only NULL and empty, and nothing trims, so `<OnLoad>↵</OnLoad>` compiles to a valid empty function rather than storing nil, which any addon calling `GetScript` can observe); `SHOW_BUFF_DURATIONS` is applied once post-load because 1.12 leaves that to `UIOptionsFrame.lua`, which benilla does not build — without it the bar ships a 10px pitch error on every buff - gossip quests come through the reference's four verbs — `GetGossipAvailableQuests`/`GetGossipActiveQuests` returning (title, level) PAIRS, with the two `Select*` verbs indexing into that list — replacing three invented names that sat on the beyond-1.12 exception list; the quest LEVEL was on the wire, parsed and dropped because the invented verb had nowhere to put it, and the reference's order (available before active, whatever the packet interleaved) comes with them - eight more files off the chain as groundwork: `LocaleProperties.lua` (the gendered/plural `GetText` selector that eleven stock call sites read their words through — fifty lines of FrameXML that looked like an engine binding), `CinematicFrame.xml`, the UIMenu kit, the `UnitFrame.lua`/`CombatFeedback.lua` kits (the only two names blocking the stock player, party, target and pet frames), the money-input kit, and `ItemButtonTemplate.xml` — the base every bag, bank, merchant, loot, trade and mail slot inherits; `GetMerchantItemMaxStack` (on the wire the whole time, dropped) and the two trade item-link verbs join the engine - two instruments for the migration: a gap report that reads a stock window's call sites against a LOADED VM and says which engine verbs it still needs (28 windows need none, the rest name 1–5), and the readiness probe's documented false positive — loading a stock window on top of our same-named one leaves `getglobal(name)` pointing at ours while the stock handlers run against theirs, so a failure inside a colliding name is a question, not an answer Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

the world map blips are the reference's, and particles go untinted
- the world map speaks the reference's names: WorldMapTooltip is declared (six corpus addons index it; pfUI dies on it at file scope), the blackout frame takes the reference's spelling BlackoutWorld, and the four hand-written party blips become the reference's own unit-blip templates — all 44 blips as instances, each with its published $parentIcon, the name pfUI recolours group blips by class through; the 40 raid ones are declared but not positioned yet, named in the OUT list rather than faked
- the templates addons build their own buttons from are published: ItemButtonTemplate, ContainerFrameItemButtonTemplate and the bag-slot chain — most of the handler scripts were live the whole time (this client executes the reference's own container and paper-doll code off the player's patch chain), so what was missing was mostly declarations, not behaviour — the bank arm stays out and is named as the omission it is; OptionsFrameSliders becomes real, with the three Graphics rows reading it and re-reading on show, so an addon's write to a slider's bounds actually moves the slider; and the template census that had ranked these at "zero demand" learns to see a local bound to a literal — its table went from 3 rows to 7
- the bindings answer in 1.12's own shapes: Button:IsEnabled() answers the NUMBER 1 or 0 (0 is truthy in Lua, so the reference's own == 0 tests got false forever, and three of our files had hand-worked around the divergence rather than fixed it); the constructors' string arguments are four shapes, not one rule — pfUI passes a Button where a template name goes and the reference constructs the FontString and ignores it; SetInventoryItem returns THREE values, the reference's own paper doll destructuring repairCost; UnitIsVisible is object presence and nothing else (57 bytes, one branch, no distance — an out-of-range party member is exists-yes, visible-nil); the tapped pair reads the two dynamic-flags bits, and its repaint wire fires UNIT_FACTION on the tap bit — the half a passing predicate test never sees; UnitIsPartyLeader is two ORed legs covering disjoint failures (a held stranger leading their own party, and an out-of-range member with no object to read a flag from); and the four nameplate verbs take no argument and return zero values
- the ghost's wisps compose onto its body instead of over it — the four emitters drew at full strength over a body at alpha 0.5, and now inherit the instance alpha down the attachment chain the way the reference recomposes it per frame; the residual we had parked ("the wisps should inherit the tint too") is REFUTED at the bytes: a particle batch commits hardcoded white RGB, and even that never reaches the fragment — particles are never tinted, only the alpha crosses, applied to the alpha byte alone — so the shipped shader split was already right and no code changes

the combat log's wire completes, and PlayerModel is its own class
- the combat log's last eight wire bodies decode — PARTYKILLLOG, SPELLINSTAKILLLOG, PROCRESIST, SPELLORDAMAGE_IMMUNE, SPELLDISPELLOG, DISPEL_FAILED, ENCHANTMENTLOG, SPELLLOGEXECUTE — each layout read off vmangos's own writer and pinned by a byte-exact golden (DISPEL_FAILED carries no count, the list runs to the end of the body; SPELLLOGEXECUTE's POWER_DRAIN row is (amount, power, multiplier), verified at the client's bytes as well as the server's); with the eleven chat types that were waiting on them, 44 chat types become 55 — 29 sentence families, the death pair and the aura rows riding descriptor diffs because 1.12 has no "unit died" opcode, plus the six trailers ((glancing), (30 blocked), (12 absorbed) and kin) that had been missing from every family; also corrected: the durability-death line was going to the red error frame with hard-coded English, and SMSG_SPELLNONMELEEDAMAGELOG lacked its split-damage branch and its blocked wording
- PlayerModel is its own frame kind: SetUnit, RefreshUnit and SetRotation were published on Model, but they belong to the <PlayerModel> method table (0x84f1fc), and the client's lookup chains derived → base only, so a plain <Model> can never reach them — they got there from a strings scan read as ownership, and a strings hit answers whether a name EXISTS, not who owns it (SetUnit's one pooled string is referenced by the PlayerModel and GameTooltip tables and by no Model entry); the new PlayerModel → Model → Frame → Region chain unblocks CreateFrame("PlayerModel"), which is how pfUI builds every unit-frame portrait — and through pfUI, pfQuest and ShaguDPS
- a nil where a number goes is four shapes, not one law: a census of all 408 widget-registrar entries found 62 numeric positions that validate-or-raise, 43 that gate then stage an alternate, 64 that silently coerce to 0.0 and 5 that gate then store nothing — so SetMaxLetters(nil) completes and stores 0, "no limit" (the argument COUNT is checked exactly, the type is not), and the backdrop colour setters are asymmetric on purpose: a nil r/g/b channel is 0.0 but a nil alpha is OPAQUE, and reading every nil as 0.0 would have turned those borders transparent; both setters now also quantize ×255 into the packed 0xAARRGGBB byte quad the client actually stores, so 0.09 reads back as 23/255
- two more addon-killers: LIGHTYELLOW_FONT_COLOR_CODE was the one missing line of Fonts.xml's seven-line colour block (aux-addon concatenates it at file scope and died on its own first line), and the guard now enumerates the whole block l.4-20 instead of the names an earlier round had noticed absent; and the unit frames publish the reference's names — 1.12 has no *PowerBar anywhere, every bar is ManaBar and the colour table is ManaBarColor (8 of the top-20 addons read it by name), so ManaBarColor is the published table our own bars index into, with 22 more regions renamed to the reference's own

Texture and FontString stop answering each other's methods
- the one shared region table splits into the client's own maps: a Texture no longer answers SetText, a FontString no longer answers SetTexture, and feature-detecting addons see the true surface - CreateTitleRegion lands whole — object and drag — so an options window that is its own drag handle actually moves - font-object names resolve whatever their case, and the CursorUpdate/CursorOnUpdate pair arrives for the container-item templates - GetStringHeight is pruned (1.12 has no such method) and SetPortraitToTexture moves to the global it really is Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

addons come alive: Bagnon draws, hovers and clicks
- Lua 5.0's generic-for and nested long strings are restored in a forked VM — 60 corpus addons stopped dying on one deleted opcode - a day of demand-driven carving takes the 218-addon corpus from 24 addons surviving a session start to 114, with 144 loading without a single error - Bagnon draws a real bag and answers real gestures — hover tooltip, pickup, use, drag — because our frames wear the reference's names, and the reference's own ContainerFrame.lua runs off the player's install instead of being transcribed - the physics broad phase leaves: nothing in the client reads a contact, and it was measured at up to 41% of main-thread samples in real sessions Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |
