gromandClaude Opus 5 0da710810e An EditBox's engine quads answered nil, and ate the trade window's money row
His trade window has no money amounts: one empty box where the gold/silver/
copper row belongs. The cause is four regions that answer the wrong thing.

pfUI skins that row by walking the gold EditBox's regions for the first
Texture whose texture names "MoneyIcons", showing it, and re-anchoring it to
the right of the box — then the silver box hangs off that icon and the copper
box off the silver one (api/ui-widgets.lua:1225, api/api.lua:1693). Its scan
reads a nil GetTexture() as "no name to match against, take this one".

An EditBox's first four regions are the engine's own: the three selection
highlights and the caret, which GetRegions lists ahead of the authored
<Layers> ones. They paint host-side here, so they carried no texture and no
fill and answered nil — and pfUI took the caret for the gold coin. Silver and
copper then anchored off a zero-size region and the whole row collapsed.

The reference builds those four as colour-set textures, not empty ones, so
GetTexture answers them "Solid Texture" — the string is in WoW.exe, and
pfUI's scan does filter that out. They answer it here now. Nothing renders
differently: the host still draws the highlight and caret from sel_start /
sel_end / caret_shown, and the fill stays unset.

The new test runs pfUI's scan itself rather than asserting on our side of it,
because what matters is which region that loop picks.

gromandClaude Opus 5 f4960efc53 The realm update lands clean, and three of the "269 known red" were real
His 2026-10-28 20:18 update rewrote `Data/patch-4.mpq` (1.37 GB) and
`patch-5.mpq`
(230 MB). Verified rather than assumed, and nothing of ours broke: the realm's
`FrameXML.toc` went 146 → 151 rows and patch-5 holds the richest copy, so
`chain::demote_stale_snapshots` fires and it wins the manifest; the five new
rows
are realm modules (`OctoChallengesSession`, `OctoHardcoreBGMenu`, `OctoReplay`,
`OctoReplayBar`, `OctoReport`) that `unnamed_chain_rows` picks up by design and
that load with **0 load errors and 0 session errors**, every global they name
resolving; DBC field counts are unchanged everywhere, so no parser is at risk,
while record counts moved (Spell 27992 → 28026, CreatureDisplayInfo 13423 →
13451), which is the proof the new data is live; a `WOW_CAPTURE=vista` at
Ironforge prints **0 ERROR lines**; and both golden baselines held exactly, 269
with an identical failing name set and 80, `goldshire_cell` still at 1874.

Two examples answer "did it land", because "the file is in the archive" never
does. The reference mounts `patch-?.MPQ` by case-folded name, so every
`patch-A..Z` outranks `patch-4`/`patch-5`, and the toc-subset demotion cannot
see
an archive that carries no toc at all. `chain_report` prints the `FrameXML.toc`
copies in priority order and, with `--toc`, the winner of every row of the
realm's manifest with a tally — 68 to patch-4, 43 to patch-5, 32 to `patch.MPQ`,
7 to `interface.MPQ`, 1 to patch-3, and **none to a stale letter patch**.
`chain_shadow` answers from the archive's side: patch-4 carries 20326 paths of
which 10220 are shadowed, patch-5's 1494 are not shadowed at all.

Then, grouping the red bucket by panic *site* rather than trusting its label:
252 of the 269 are shipped-UI tests and **136 share one site**. Three of the
rest
were real, and are fixed here.

Six `OptionsFrame_*` enable/disable helpers were missing outright. `benilla.toc`
is the only thing that loads two of the reference's settings windows — the
realm's own toc lists neither `SoundOptionsFrame.xml` nor `UIOptionsFrame.xml` —
stock 1.12 keeps those six beside them in its own `OptionsFrame.lua`, and the
realm replaced that file with Turtle's rewrite, which drops them. Checked
against
all 151 interface rows, Lua and XML: nothing defines one. So those windows held
controls that could not grey out, with the first raise waiting on the click that
reached one. `assets/ui/OptionsFrameAdapters.lua` carries the reference's own
bodies, read out of `patch.MPQ` rather than from memory.

`CHARACTERFRAME_SUBFRAMES` was asserted to hold exactly five. The realm's
`CharacterFrame.lua` carries a sixth, `ArenaFrame` — which this client already
stubs (`CharacterFrameAdapters.xml`), so the count was the only thing wrong. It
now checks the reference's five by membership and order, which is what the test
is for; a realm may append.

And the kit's stand-ins were anonymous. `CreateFrame("Frame")` with no name
answers `GetName()` nil and `GetID()` 0, the publish is `setglobal` either way,
so naming them costs nothing and the absence cost two of the 136's three errors:
`FCF_SetWindowName` concatenating a nil name and `SetChatWindowDocked` refusing
window 0. `ChatFrame1`/`ChatFrame2` are no longer seated at all — every row of
`UIPARENT_MANAGED_FRAME_POSITIONS` is read through `frame = _G[index]; if
( frame )`, so a missing one is skipped, and seating them only shadowed the real
windows for good. The pass runs at load, from `ShapeshiftBar_OnLoad`, twelve toc
rows before the chat files, which is why the stand-ins were always first.

That leaves 136 on one cause, and the two tests added to `loader/tests.rs` are
what ruled out the first hypothesis: a template's `parent="UIParent"` does reach
the frame that inherits it, one level and two, which is how `ChatFrame1` is
built. The next suspects are written down in the gates memory.

gromandClaude Opus 5 280c2e886f Planar water: the mirror works, and ladders in at waterQuality 3 (Ultra)
The starburst was three defects, and none of them was the oblique
projection I blamed it on in the last commit. What found them was looking
at the mirror's own render target instead of reasoning about the
composited frame — the water reads it through a fresnel weight, a rippled
UV, a plane-match band and an SSR march that paints over it, so from the
outside a broken mirror and a broken water shader look identical.
WOW_MIRROR_DUMP=1 now writes that target beside the capture. (Bevy's own
save_to_disk cannot: try_into_dynamic knows four 8-bit formats and answers
UnsupportedFormat for Rgba16Float, logging and writing nothing.)

- The oblique row's scale. Replacing the near plane with the water plane
costs the FAR plane: `z >= 0` stops meaning "nearer than CAM_FAR" and
  becomes `depth >= a*d`, a plane through the eye tilted by a. Lengyel's
own scale puts that plane exactly through the frustum's far corner, and
the sky dome is pinned just inside the far plane, so it straddled the
boundary and was sliced along its own tessellation. Scale by the
supremum of d/depth over the frustum instead, with 2% of margin.
- The water surface lay ON its own clip plane. This was the starburst and
it was fatal rather than untidy: depth now means "distance above the
plane", so a fragment at d=0 reads z/w=1, the nearest value reverse-Z
has, and beats every other surface in the frame. The mesh is
wave-displaced, so its triangles straddled the plane instead of lying in
it, and each was clipped to a sliver that kept the winning depth.
SURFACE_CLEARANCE lifts the plane a yard: the swell sums to 0.34 and the
probed height answers for the surface under the eye, not this fragment.
- The mirror was stored upside down. A true reflection is what a camera on
the far side sees with its up vector reflected too — an improper basis
no Transform can hold. The honest right-handed camera sees the same
surfaces through the same frustum and stores the image flipped, so the
shader samples 1 - v; that costs no winding flip, so backface culling
stays correct. It read as a lake reflecting the ridge the RIGHT way up.

Measured: Lake Everstill 2.87 -> 3.36 ms mean over 600 frames (+17%), the
Stormwind canal inside the noise, CPU +0.2 to +1.1 ms. It is the first
lane in docs/GRAPHICS.md that spends main thread, so it is a rung of its
own above High and the default stays 2.

Seated as a setting, per the standing rule that no graphics lane hides
behind an env var: waterQuality gains tier 3, the Ultra preset takes it,
and the Advanced Graphics dropdown gains a fourth entry in both locales.

With the lane off, both scenarios are byte-identical to the build before
it — which took two findings of its own:

- The system could not live in Update at all. `&mut Transform` on a camera
is shared with everything that moves anything; declaring it put 59
undeclared orders into Update and tripped the schedule ratchet, which is
what kept this behind an env var. It belongs in PostUpdate with the
skybox and the billboards, after propagation and before visibility,
where it also reads the eye's settled pose instead of a frame-old one.
(The comment blaming ResMut<Assets<Image>> for those 59 was wrong —
dropping the asset handle changed the count by zero.)
- A system that runs and returns on its first line is still not free.
Holding &mut Camera and &mut GlobalTransform for a frame is enough to
change which undeclared orders the executor picks: the canal moved 0.75%
of its pixels by up to 96/255 with the lane switched off. So the whole
system sits behind a run condition rather than an early return — and the
same effect killed a .before(UpdateDirectionalLightCascades) order that
  was correct in itself.

PostUpdate's ambiguity ceiling goes 466 -> 495 with the reason (the pairs
are structurally impossible: nothing else in the schedule names the mirror
camera); Update's ratchets down 4973 -> 4952.

Also restores scripts/gates.sh's `where` example, which had gone missing.
Its absence was silent — cargo's error went to /dev/null and `|| true`
made it read as "no install" — so the memo key and the player-tests gate
saw none even when WOW_DATA was set.

gromandClaude Opus 5 81d96af35d Everwood: the HD/OctoWoW line of benilla, imported onto upstream
This checkout had no git history at all, so this one commit carries the whole
of the Everwood work as a single import on top of chairmanpow/benilla-octo's
`main` (706cd71). The two trees have genuinely diverged — each has files the
other does not — so this is a fork point, not a catch-up.

Today's work, which is the reason a baseline exists at all:

- Booth previews no longer cast world shadows (`NO_BOOTH_SHADOW`). Portrait
characters were entering the sun's shadow cascades, so every skinned-rig
shadow specialization compiled live mid-frame; the hitch detector logged
"main thread blocked 1316 ms" beside a `compiled LIVE` warning. This was
  the Fashion/Tmog stutter.
- Per-pane dress-up: each `DressUpModel` pane assembles and stages its own
tried-on look instead of every pane mirroring the live player.
- Item template cache is append-only JSONL written on the IO pool, replacing
an 11.6 MB whole-map JSON rewrite on the main thread every 10 s.
- `WOW_SYSTEM_TIMING` rebuilt per-thread: it took 2 mutexes per system enter
and 4 per exit, costing 15 ms a frame (590 fps -> 60) and corrupting the
measurements it was taken to produce.
- The visibility-churn sweep moved to its own `WOW_FLASH_CHURN` switch, so a
frame-cost reading no longer pays 2.7 ms a frame for it.

Local state (`benilla-config/`, `logs/`, `target/`) is excluded by the
existing .gitignore; the account credential it holds is not in this commit.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 8da634afa9 Comments in benilla-formats: one line of fact each, no history, no record numbers (#130)
Part of #41: the comments of `benilla-formats` (the library, its extract tools, examples and tests) are rewritten to the rule in `docs/METHOD.md`, which is what the code does and the reference fact behind it, in a line. 19,654 comment lines become 7,264.

Fixes #105: the WMO collision comments now name walking's box-query leaf `0x6bca50` and the camera and line-of-sight segment-query leaf `0x6bc700`, in `models/collision.rs`, `examples/wmo_bsp.rs` and `tests/chain.rs`.

- **The mechanical strip.** The citations that were only a private record number go first, and each edit is shown to be a pure removal.
- **Wrong facts corrected.** The rewrite corrects the comments that stated wrong facts. Among them:
  - A placed doodad's material alpha reads file slot 0 on its spawn clock, while the reference reads bone 0's armed sequence, re-rolled every play window. The old text said doodads are armed once at load.
  - The fog end is stored ×36 and scaled once at load (`0x6d6090`). It is not raw.
  - The MCSH bit picks a map doodad's sun scale, 1.0 lit or 0.5 shadowed. 2.5 belongs to an entity's light node.
  - `SpellRec` is the row as stored, column × 4, not a translated copy.
  - A global sequence's clock is anchored at the instance's attach time (`0x714352`).
  - Particle twinkle is a gated size multiplier (`0x7b2adc`).
  - The blob shadow sizes from the Stand box.
  - Data claims are checked against the install: the weapon-trail kits' parameters and alphas, the beam rows' noise, and the maps' `field_16`.
  - Dozens more turned up on the way: renamed or deleted items, docs sitting on the wrong item, stale counts and links.
- **Deviation labels.** "Deviation:" now marks only a choice with a reason. An unbuilt behaviour says so plainly.
- **Verification.** Every file strips to identical code, and `cargo fmt --check` is clean. Four second readers compared every file old against new, restored the facts the rewrite had dropped, and checked each new citation against the reference, the code and the shipped data.

String literals are untouched; they are #92.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 7b66dac9db comments cite the reference by address, not by private note (#30)
Comments that pointed into the maintainer's private reverse-engineering notes (a note by name, a
path, a section or finding id, the analysis's own name for a client function, a process word) now
carry the fact itself, cited by the reference client's address, by vmangos file and line, or as
"the reference". Nobody outside could follow those pointers.

Comment text only, plus the test-assert and log strings that carried the same pointers. No claim
changes: a comment the notes have since corrected keeps its wording here, and correcting it is
separate work.

The two reference generators, `scripts/gen-reference-globals.py` and
`scripts/gen-reference-verb-events.py`, named the private notes' layout to find their inputs. They
now take the input files as arguments (`--capture`, `--framexml`, `--names`, `--extents`,
`--disasm`). Run on the same inputs, both write the committed tables row for row; only the two
header lines that named the old environment variable change.

Checked per file:
- the code is identical: each file with its comments stripped compares equal before and after; a
changed string literal is compared under a mask that proves only literal text moved and every
  literal kept its line count;
- no client address the old text cited was dropped;
- a second reviewer checked every added address against its derivation;
- a detector for the notes' names, paths, ids, function names and process words finds none left;
- `scripts/gates.sh` is green.

SamandClaude Fable 5.1 00150c55b5 a crash leaves a report, and the wire's counts are capped
- a panic writes benilla-config/Diagnostics/crash-<time>.txt with the build id, the location, a backtrace and the last 200 log lines, and names the file as its last line, so a bug report can attach it (2266)
- every wire-count allocation hint is capped and the compressed update object reads through the cursor, so a malformed packet can no longer ask for gigabytes (2266)
- the 23 in-world run conditions are one set, the 45 probe variables one registry, the install-gated tests say when they skip, and every gate is timed (2266)
- one workspace-level lint allowance replaces 413 per-site attributes, and the decision corpus gets a lint in the gate (2266)

SamandClaude Fable 5.1 60138f5d5d every objective line shows, the detail follows the row, and 1.98 lints
- a quest objective that carries both a creature and an item is two lines in the quest log, as the reference's four passes enumerate it: Graverobbers shows its Embalming Ichor (2249)
- the quest log's detail follows the live selection inside a frame, so a quest addon's log walk reads the right quest; Questie no longer files a chain quest under its shortest sibling (2247)
- a UI tint change is not a material change: a run's colour rides the batch's instance tag, so the PlayerFrame glow no longer re-prepares a material every frame (2245)
- the workspace lints clean on rustc 1.98: constant-size chunks become as_chunks, one slice fill, two unused globs
- WOW_HOVER_PROBE aims the pick in a headless run, and the inspect card names the tooltip's ladder stage (2248, 2250)

SamandClaude Fable 5.1 fd1bb10261 a refused login says why, the deep ocean darkens, and the blade trails
- a refused character login left the player on a loading screen with no world behind it and no way off — reported as sitting at character select with no message, and the symptom was worse than the report: `SMSG_CHARACTER_LOGIN_FAILED` (0x41) had a name and no parse arm, so the client never heard it, and it was not at character select when the refusal landed, because the IO thread sends `CMSG_PLAYER_LOGIN` and announces the connection in the same breath (the entry's head start, 0777), so `ClientState::InWorld` was already set and the loading cover was up waiting for a snap the server had just declined to send; the wire half parses the opcode into `ServerPacket::CharacterLoginFailed` / `SessionEvent::CharacterLoginFailed` and carries the byte RAW, since vmangos sends a bare `1` and mangos-classic its own `CharLoginFailReasons`, and a wire layer that interpreted it would be picking a server; the refusal is an entry being REVOKED, not a failure to enter — `Cycle::LoginRefused` runs the same `SessionEnd::LoggedOut` teardown a `/logout` does, the cover cuts to black, `back_on_login_refused` takes the select screen back with the relist's roster underneath, and clearing `pending_pick` is load-bearing: it is 0065's reconnect memory and the relist is auto-answered with it, so keeping it would re-enter the refused character forever from behind a black screen; the byte is a 1-BASED REASON INDEX, not a status code — wow-re read `OnCharLoginResult` (`0x5aad70`): `dec eax; cmp eax,5; ja` into a six-entry jump table mapping 1..=6 onto `CHAR_LOGIN_*` 0x3e/0x3f/0x40/0x42/0x43/0x44 and SKIPPING 0x41 `CHAR_LOGIN_FAILED`, reachable only as the default, so the tempting `0x3d + byte` is right for four rows and wrong for the rest; `char_login_refusal_text` is that table, resolved against the player's own `GlueStrings.lua` and asserted against it (vmangos's `1` therefore reads "World server is down" — the server's dialect, and what the reference would say); the select screen runs the shared `login::drive_dialog` rather than a second copy of the reference's one `GlueDialog`, which found two holes — `to_select_on_roster` closed ANY dialog on an arriving roster while the refusal's own relist produces one a second later, so it would have wiped the message (the original bug one layer up; now scoped to status/queued), and `preflight`'s descriptor latch outlived the session that armed it, announcing "the avatar never streamed in" from character select, now disarmed on any disconnect; a live probe against vmangos pins the three facts this rests on — the byte arrives as 0x01, the roster still serves after it, a retry enters the world on the same socket — and `WOW_REFUSE_LOGIN=1` refuses the first pick of a run by sending a non-player guid, the one guard that needs no server state, so a path no real account can stage by hand is walkable on demand (2071)
- the ocean's depth ramp was never a placeholder, and its deep row is darker than we drew it: four files called the ADT ocean's `V = byte/255` a stand-in "pending its own RE" — the director's report had the sea fading to deep colour about 6x too slowly — on the claim that ocean takes a non-LUT UV path via `0x68d890`, which is the MAGMA vert-fill, as `benilla_adt::LiquidVertex::texcoords` had said by that same address all along; the ocean fill is `0x68d690` and it reads a depth LUT exactly as the river fill `0x68d790` does, `0x68c4c0` building both side by side (`0xc81768 = min(d/42, 1)` river, `0xc7fcd8 = min(d/255, 1)` ocean), the two fills differing in exactly 3 of 246 bytes — one `fld` displacement — so there is no second ocean-only depth term, and wow-re's cross-check found `/255` bit-exact for all 256 entries; the divisors differ because the authored bytes do — a census over every MCLQ block on Azeroth + Kalimdor, each wet vertex's depth byte against its own geometric depth, reads a river at 8.96 byte/yd (reproducing the independently-measured ≈8.5, the control) and the sea at 1.72, 5.2x gentler, so `/255` saturates at ~148 yd and `/42` at ~4.7 yd, the same ramp in yards and not a 6x slower one, while 83.4% of ocean vertices carry byte 255 outright, so the open sea is authored fully deep and the ramp is only a shore band; a test pins both divisors against the raw MCLQ bytes (swapping the ocean onto `/42` fails it), `examples/liquid_depth_census` is the measurement with named shore-band pins, `WOW_OCEAN_DEPTH_DIV` is the A/B, and the alpha-ramp deferral closes with it — `0xc7fbc0`'s `1.6·(i/63)^8` is the sky glare falloff, bound at `0x685257` inside a branch proven dead, so the linear `127 + 2·row` alpha shipped was right; and the finding nobody asked for: `0x68a830` fills the 8×64 swatch as an exact integer accumulator in BYTE space, `row(i) = c0 + floor(i·(c1−c0)/64)`, so the ramp never reaches the deep endpoint (row 63 is ~98.4% of the way), and an ocean-only tail `[0x68a9c0, 0x68aa36)` — gated on last row AND selector 0, river being selector 1 — runs RGB→HSV, `V ×= 0.9` (`0x3f666666` at `0x8102ec`), HSV→RGB and forces that row's alpha to 255, which reduces to `floor(0.9·byte)` per channel (99.03% bit-exact over all 2^24 triples, max 1/255); byte 255 ⇒ `V = 1.0` ⇒ row 63 exactly, so the darkened row IS the open sea, and benilla had rendered deep ocean ~10% too bright over most of the water in the world — an error that survived every regression diff because no capture scenario holds any ocean; `liquid.wgsl`'s `swatch_row` / `swatch_at` port the accumulator, the LINEAR/LINEAR CLAMP sampling (so the darkening ramps in across the final 1/64 of V rather than stepping) and the ocean-only tail, on the ADT lane only — the WMO arms keep the plain lerp, their opacity being a different 256-entry ramp — pinned by a test against wow-re's published byte vectors (row 62 = 12,36,41; row 63 = 11,35,40, green one ABOVE the deep endpoint; after the tail 9,31,36) that also asserts the WGSL still carries the formula; rivers move at most 7/255 from the row quantization (2069, 2074)
- the weapon swing trail — `SpellVisualKit` CharProc type 8, which benilla had dropped on the floor with the rest of the dispatcher's unmodelled cases: 34 of 1772 kits carry it, 27 are reached from a live `Spell.dbc` chain, and 16 of those name NO emitter slot at all, so the ribbon is their entire visual — kit 324 alone reaches 218 spells (Heroic Strike, Overpower, Mortal Strike, Bloodthirst, Rend) and rendered nothing beyond the swing animation, with 506 (Revenge, Riposte, Mongoose Bite), 557 (Sunder Armor), 646 (Hamstring, Wing Clip), 399 (Sinister Strike), 822 (Garrote) and 823 (Feint, Disengage) in the same shape; the proc draws nothing — `0x60d80a` latches a packed colour and a duration on the unit, and the unit's next `PlayAnimation` (`0x5fe48e`, the fields' only reader) hands both to its two weapon-hand trail objects and clears the duration, so an arm fires exactly once and a second proc on a live trail RESETS its ring rather than stacking; each object rings 128 samples of its weapon model's `$WTB`/`$WTT` markers (455 of the 571 weapon models author both) and draws them as a strip that fades from opaque at the OLDEST end of the arc to ≈0 at the blade, the alpha being a clock and not just an opacity; `weapon_trail.rs` transcribes the arithmetic rather than approximating it — the truncating `_ftol` decode (not the small-int idiom every other integer param takes, which would yield colour 0 and no trail at all), `fadeStep`'s low-byte floor (`cmp al,1`, so a ≈768 ms hitch takes a floor of 1 instead of its own huge value), the alpha-derived termination, and the ring's writer/reader modulus mismatch (`& 127` stored, `% 127` read — shipped 5875 behaviour, reachable only by Whirlwind's 10 000 ms spin); the draw state was dispatched rather than guessed and the guess was wrong in three of seven places: the callback's six EGxRs writes say `0x07 = 2` (ordinary SRC_ALPHA / INV_SRC_ALPHA — additive is mode 3, the difference between a ribbon that whites out crossing itself and a coloured smear) and `0x10 = 0` (depth test OFF: the arc draws over the world and over the swinging character, never eaten by his own shoulder), so `EffectDrawSpec::no_depth_test` is a new pipeline-key bit on the shared effect lane with every other producer explicitly false, where the state had only existed as the global `WOW_PARTICLE_NODEPTH` debug lever; the third — lighting ON over a vertex format with no normal — is a verified state that is not yet a verified appearance and ships unlit as a named deviation with the question out; the consume edge is `AnimDriver::started_anim`, not the one-shot alone, because `0x5fe2f0` is the image's SINGLE animation entry point, locomotion included — a unit that simply starts running consumes the arm, which is how Charge (kit 44, 38 spells, anim id −1) trails at all; kit 324's 600 ms duration is on screen for 1250 ms at 60 Hz, since `fadeStep` is `trunc(dt·alpha/300)` and shrinks with the alpha it decays, twice wow-re's own estimate; the warm pass gets the depth-test-off pipeline as the one combination that ships (alpha, unlit, no rasterizer settle) rather than as another factor of the cross product — 36 more warm draws per camera for pipelines nothing asks for — so the first Heroic Strike does not compile one live; and `benilla-extract charprocs` grows the trail census that found the 34/27/16 split (2076)
- a zero injury column plays nothing: benilla walked down the wound-grunt family when the selected column was 0 — crushing to critical to ordinary — on a comment with no citation ("crushing rows are often 0 in data"), a true observation about the data and a false inference about the client; `0x623490` tests the selected id once (`0x6234e6 test ebx,ebx ; je 0x62350e`, the shared epilogue) and no fallback is even reachable — the row pointer dies at `0x6234e4`, so neither the bus pick `0x623b10` nor the play `0x458890` ever sees the row to re-read a column from, and the CGPlayer twin `0x62f880` is identical; it mattered because the class-2 chance roll had just landed beside it (2073): a crushing blow skips the roll (class 9 carries threshold 100) AND fell through to the ordinary kit, so it was louder than an ordinary hit on the same creature by two routes; `sound/combat.rs` now plays the selected column or nothing — crushing → column 5, critical → 4, ordinary → 3 — and a crushing blow on a creature with no crushing kit, which is most of the 406 rows (`Skeleton`, `Silithid`, `MountainGiant` among them), is silent, the reference's behaviour rather than an omission (2075)

SamandClaude Fable 5.1 5c26c233c3 the cooldown goes stock, early-Z comes back, and lists reach the end
- a size-less `<Model>` pane's rect is its file's box in layout units: the reference's geometry overrides (`0x76d080`/`0x76d0d0`) answer the bbox extent whenever no size is authored, `bboxExtent · 768·√(a²+1) · layoutScale` FrameXML units (`1280 · extent` at 4:3), written into the pane's layout input when the file's facts land, re-derived on an aspect change, and ended for good by any authored size; `SetPosition` is the same unit, which is how `0x4a7b20` centres the arrow at `½·GetWidth, ½·GetHeight` through the override — so the map arrow's sprite arm and its hand-sized 33.6 px footprint go (its rect is `0.0262 × 0.0263` layout units, 33.5 × 33.7 FrameXML units at 4:3, 41.0 × 41.2 at 16:9), and the stock `ItemAnim` pane plays the item push unadapted (`ReplaceIconTexture` on the type-14 batch, the 1000 ms clamp, the stock `OnAnimFinished`), `ContainerFrameAdapters.xml` losing 0887's Lua card and its hand-measured 42.41 × 124.72 rect — the implicit one at 16:9 — and keeping the keyring fork and the three bag verbs (2015); and the cooldown is the reference's own model: the texture-transform law `uv' = R_q((uv + t − p) ⊙ s) + p`, `p = (½, ½)`, the raw quaternion component-lerped and never normalised, is one function (`uv_transform`) with the shader's UV fold as its twin — rotation and scale tracks bake per file sequence slot beside the translation, the mat-anim table gains an affine row `[cos − 1, sin, sx − 1, sy − 1]` on `anim_slots.z` whose identity is the zero row so every static batch reads exactly what it did, and a UI tile clones the twin material per animated batch and writes both rows every frame off the pane's play head, never the world clock; the stock `Cooldown.xml` runs off the chain on 2007's two handlers, the file's four quadrant quads turned by their own rotation tracks (`0 → −90°` over each quadrant's 250 ms window, clockwise from 12 o'clock) and its alpha tracks revealing the star for the flash; retired: the native `Cooldown` widget and `SetCooldown` (an Era API 1.12 never had — `CreateFrame("Cooldown")` is the reference's unknown-type refusal now), the loader's `Model → Cooldown` substitution, the app's hand-built pie and star, and our `Cooldown.xml`; `assets/ui` is eight files (2019)
- `UpdateMapHighlight` gets its zone-level exits (B360): at zone zoom ours returned the nil tail for every cursor position, so hovering Deadwind Pass from Duskwood showed no label where 1.12 shows "Deadwind Pass"; the reference's `0x4a7fa0` runs two lookups at zone level and answers a NAME only — first the current zone's exploration-gated overlay list (the builder at `0x4a6ad9` gating on the explored byte), each row's HitRect scaled by 1/1002 and 1/668 against the normalized cursor, edges inclusive, the first hit naming its Area1, then the continent grid re-windowed through the displayed zone's own rect, naming the neighbouring zone or city and nothing for the displayed zone itself — and only the name-only tail is reachable from there, fileName nil and the six coords zero, so the stock frame hides the highlight quad, as the director's own 1.12 shot shows; and `SetVerticalScroll` stores the offset as given (B370, B363): the reference's `0x786db0` compares the new offset against the old and writes it to `[+0x328]` verbatim, `0x787100` re-anchors the scroll child off it, and the range at `[+0x320]` is never read on that path — every clamp the reference exhibits is FrameXML's, through the scroll bar's `[min, max]`; ours clamped into `[0, GetVerticalScrollRange()]`, the child's overflow past the FRAME, which is 40 px short of where `FauxScrollFrame_Update` sends the bar on the 220-tall skills list (three rows lost) and 15 px short on the 287-tall who list (one); the setter fires `OnVerticalScroll` only on a change, as the bytes do, `BenillaScroll_Step` bounds its wheel in Lua where the reference's handler does, and the ScrollFrame kind's prose stops calling its offset unpinned (2017)
- overdraw's cheap half, the sky first: since 0588 every sky element wrote `frag_depth = 0.0`, which costs a pipeline its early-Z, so on an outdoor frame every full-screen dome fragment under the ground and the buildings was shaded in full (the gradient's `asin`, `atan2` and eight table lookups at dawn and dusk) and thrown away; one shared `sky_vertex.wgsl` — bevy's mesh vertex verbatim plus `out.position.z = 0.0` — is now the vertex stage of the gradient dome, the cloud dome, the star patches and the celestial discs and glares, and the model lane's `WOW_SKY_DEPTH` branch moves from its fragment to its vertex, so no sky fragment declares `frag_depth` and the rasterizer rejects the covered screen before the shader runs; every sky `specialize` zeroes the rasterizer bias constant the `sky_order` rung had been leaking into `DepthBiasState::constant`, harmless only while the fragment overwrote its depth, and the prose beside the pin follows it; then the retained `static_gx` pass draws BEFORE bevy's opaque pass (`StartMainPass → static_gx → MainOpaquePass`) — buildings and doodads are the frame's best occluders and a terrain fragment its dearest, six samples a pixel — so walls reject the terrain behind them instead of the reverse, the pass taking the first-use clear with it and the dev depth probe ordered after it; measured on 16 capture scenarios: 14 bit-identical, `northshire-dusk` 1 px and `water-night` 11 px, attributed to exact depth ties on static/terrain silhouettes and last-bit interpolation noise; a depth prepass and near-to-far bins are declined until a journal says where the time goes (2016)
- the grass cut goes per pixel because of a quarter-mip: `0x6813d0` sets `D3DSAMP_MIPMAPLODBIAS = +0.25` on stage 0 (`0x6813f4`) once per frame before the detail-doodad pass — capture-confirmed on all 29 doodad batches, and outside the `[0x6b1000, 0x6b3200)` scan 2004 had called complete; it decides the whole look because the `clutter_cut` probe finds 6 of 31 shipped detail atlases carry a BINARY alpha pyramid (mip 0 has DXT3's 16 levels, every level below exactly two, both starting zones among them), so `a × ramp` degenerates to a global on/off and every texel of a leaf crosses at the same depth — Elwynn's survivor coverage is flat at 47.6 % across the whole 52.5–61.1 yd band, then 0.0 %, while the probe's box-filtered control erodes 47.7 → 20.9 over the same band, so the art has the gradient the shipped pyramid threw away, and `clutter_size` puts the median tuft at 0.92 yd tall, 1.03 yd deep, a full yard for the boundary plane to sweep; the escape is bilinear: full alpha needs a 2×2 all-opaque texel neighbourhood, and those run out between mip 2 and 3 (179/56/10/0/0/0 on the dominant Elwynn cell), so the reference's λ ≈ 2.9–3.3 sits past the cliff and the tuft erodes continuously — 2.2 % of a tuft's pixels leave in the last half-yard with the bias, 11.6 % without, 24.2 % one mip sharper; wgpu has no sampler LOD bias, so the clutter lane re-samples base colour at `view.mip_bias + 0.25`, keeping the sampler every other model batch shares at the reference's 0; ruled out on the way: our BLP decoder (all nine uploaded levels byte-identical against the archive's 52 793 BLP2s), mip regeneration, the `has_mipmaps` byte's value 2 (a plain boolean, an authoring marker), anisotropy and geometry; what it does not fix is resolution-dependent, and so is the reference's own look — λ with the bias is 3.22 at the capture's 648p but 2.48 at 1080p and 1.48 at 2160p, so at a modern resolution the reference itself pops leaf by leaf, and scaling the bias with the viewport is one reversible line left for a look call (2021)

SamandClaude Fable 5.1 c957f98d84 grass fades on a plane, model panes render, and the FPS journal ships
- the grass fade is a plane across the view, not a ring around the player: `0x6b2b80` texgens the camera-space position through `T(0,0,−52.5)·Ry(π/2)·S(1/17.5)`, so the fade coordinate is view-space depth, `u = (z_eye − 52.5)/17.5` — we measured `distance(eye, fragment)`, a sphere, which meets the ground as a circle centred on the player that slides as they walk and bites a piece out of every tuft it crosses, and that was the hard border; the ramp is `0x6b2320`'s quantised 64×8 table, `alpha = 4·(63 − col)`, read bilinearly as `(254 − 256·u)/255` and capped at `252/255` — plateau to 52.64 yd, zero at 69.86 yd, near grass 98.8 % opaque and never 100 — where we had a clean 1 → 0 line; the product `tex0.a × ramp` is what the 128/255 `detailDoodadAlpha` cutout tests (both stages MODULATE, `[0xc7b2fc]`, confirmed verbatim in all four apitrace captures), so the tuft eroding out at 61.11 yd is the reference's own behaviour and the "fix" that would have removed it never landed; the pass owns its render state — blend mode 2, ALPHAREF 128, cull off, depth-write on, the per-slot draw `0x6b2d60` binding nothing but the texture — where we passed the batch's authored blend and cull through, and the `clutter_state` probe counted the cost: of 322 detail batches, 2 author Opaque (no cutout, their margin drawn as a solid card) and 5 single-sided; the build gate measures the chunk's box against the frustum corner ray derived from the live projection (≈1.31× at 16:9, ≈1.45× at 21:9), not its centre plus a 24 yd margin that popped whole chunks in on relief (2004)
- a `<Model>` widget's animation state is Lua-observable and lives in the engine: a private scene clock its own `OnUpdate` advances by `trunc(elapsed·1000)` ms on visible frames only (`0x76d7f0`), an arm with an anchor the sampler re-reads every frame (`0x7121a0`), `OnUpdateModel` at the top of every paint (`0x76d1a0`) and `OnAnimFinished` from the completion callback (`0x76cdc0`); the file's sequences and bounds are facts the host hands over, `SetModel` seeds Stand now or when they land (`0x70ebd0`) with a queued arm replaying after the seed, and the XML `scale=` on a model pane is the model's scale (`CSimpleModel::LoadXML` `0x76cac0`), which the loader had never read (2007); and the pane renders its M2 — every visible pane with a file gets a cell of one render-target atlas at its device size through one orthographic camera, the root at `1280·modelScale·layoutScale` FrameXML units per model unit, the tile's `AnimationPlayer` paused and seeked to the engine's play head, the light black, particles in their own unit (`768·√(a²+1)` per model unit, neither scale), composited as one premultiplied quad at the callback rank; two corrections off the bytes: `OnUpdateModel` fires only with a model installed (`[widget+0x318] ≠ 0`) and `OnAnimFinished` fires once per arm for a looping sequence too (`0x719370`); the loader now applies a `<Model>`'s `file=` at all, which every XML-declared pane had lacked; retired: the minimap ping's byte-measured sprite, since `MiniMapPing` and `WorldMapPing` draw their own file on the pane's clock (2013)
- the stance feed fires `UPDATE_SHAPESHIFT_FORMS` only for a list change: the reference fires it at `0x4b28ff`/`0x4b2e43` from learn, unlearn and rank-replace alone, while ours fired on any change of the pushed view, and every fire runs the stock `ShapeshiftBar_Update`, which shows `ShapeshiftBarMiddle` unconditionally past two forms and `Show()`s an already-shown frame — no `OnShow`, no manage pass — so a stance switch or the category-47 cooldown arming and expiring left the middle strip drawn alone over a raised bottom-left bar; castability now rides `SPELL_UPDATE_USABLE` (`0x4b31c0`), active/texture/cooldown are pushed silently and repainted on `PLAYER_AURAS_CHANGED` and `SPELL_UPDATE_COOLDOWN`, the feed ordered before both handler sets so they read the fresh list (2009); and the loot-roll frame waits for its item template (B371): `GroupLootFrame_OnShow` paints once and nothing repaints it, and we fired `START_LOOT_ROLL` on the frame the packet arrived, against a snapshot whose name, texture and quality were still `None` — the reference's `0x61b310` ends in the item-template cache lookup `0x55ba30`, a hit firing the event there and a miss firing it from the arrival callback `0x61b460`, so the feed holds a fresh roll's event until the template answers, with two releases that are ours: a negative answer (a frame that never opens cannot even be passed on) and a 2 s deadline paid out of the roll's minute; `arg2` stays the wire's countdown, as `0x61b430` pushes it (2010)
- the FPS journal ships to players: it had registered inside the dev-only `DevToolsPlugin` and been armed by an environment variable, so nothing we shipped could have written a row on the one GPU-bound frame in the corpus, a Steam Deck's at 94 % busy; `/console fpsJournal 1` — a CVar of our own, persisted like every CVar — opens `benilla-config/Diagnostics/fps-journal.csv` and appends one row a second, `0` closes it mid-run, and `WOW_FPS_JOURNAL=<path>` stays as the harness lever; eight GPU columns appended, `gpu_ms` then `gpu_opaque, gpu_static, gpu_transp, gpu_glow, gpu_post, gpu_ui, gpu_other`, read off bevy's `RenderDiagnosticsPlugin`, which times passes where the device offers `TIMESTAMP_QUERY_INSIDE_PASSES` (Vulkan and DX12) and leaves the cells empty on an Apple GPU, empty being the honest value; `static_gx`, the four `ffx_glow_*` passes and `ui_gamma_decode` open diagnostic spans so a city's own draw is named in the split; a fresh file opens with the adapter, backend, driver and `gpu_spans yes|no` line; and a probe's `/console` line, which skips the stock `ChatEdit_ParseText` and had landed in a parser arm that knew only `reloadUI`, now forwards to `ConsoleExec` and writes a CVar the way the typed line does (2008)

SamandClaude Fable 5.1 6d34bb4ecc spells shake the camera, and the sound keeps playing in the background
- spells shake the camera: `SpellEffectCameraShakes.dbc` loads beside `CameraShakes.dbc` as the group table, `SpellVisualKit` field 14 is the shake column (58 of 1772 kits carry one — War Stomp, Thunder Clap, Kodo Stomp, the ~50 Knockdown/Slam/Charge impacts, every summon, Sapper Charge, Earthquake, Sapphiron's death), and the kit shake fires exactly once per play from the first effect node's one-time arm pass (`0x620e11`), the same leg that plays the kit sound one field over — the older "fires only if nothing else did" reading would have silenced every kit with a populated effect slot; `$SHK` markers fire from GameObject and DynamicObject hosts only (the titan chest, the bomb wagon); one deliberate deviation — the reference reads a bone-attached node's position twelve instructions before it is written, so 26 of its 58 shake kits shake at the world origin and are culled by the 80 yd cut, which is an uninitialised field, not a design; 21 of 24 presets now have a live producer, up from 6
- the sound keeps playing when the window loses focus, if you want it to: 1.12 mutes everything on `WM_ACTIVATE` and offers no way out, so benilla ships that as the default (`Sound_EnableSoundWhenGameIsInBG` "0") and puts an Audio-page checkbox on it — a gate appended LAST in the main-track chain, downstream of every tap, so an unattended capture still records; wow-re's round settled that music is not exempt and that it is a mute, not a pause
- a building's far side no longer draws through its own walls: the camera-inside leg has three passes and we had one and a half — Pass 2 admits an exterior-shell group only against a frustum clipped to ONE deferred window (we marked every such group visible against the full view, under a comment calling it a benign over-draw), and Pass 3, which we had none of, draws the 24 `0x10000` groups (14 in Stormwind, 6 across Dire Maul, Razorfen's four 450–520 yd shells) from anywhere, frustum-tested on both legs by byte-identical setup; there is no antiportal branch in 5875 and no such flag in its data (815/815 roots and 5220/5220 groups censused, no bit above 18 ever set)
- the macro window is the reference's own `Blizzard_MacroUI`, and `GlobalStrings.lua` — line 1 of the reference's own toc — was missing from our manifest entirely (the app loaded it out of band at startup, so the client was right and every harness that loaded the manifest was not); exactly one `<OnLoad>` runs, the most-derived, because `SetScript` releases the slot before it looks at the new body — which is why the reference re-states the template's width line in tab 1 and not tab 2

SamandClaude Fable 5.1 359b7cfb2c the foam stops at the waterline, and skill bonuses show the right halves
- the foam still washed past the waterline onto the sand after the shore fix: the slope-scaled depth bias ported from the reference's `glPolygonOffset(-4.0, …)` pulls toward the eye as the square of view distance, and what it spends is the wet-cell skirt — whole cells are the unit of liquid geometry, so a shoreline carries liquid-lattice triangles over dry sand (23 cells, up to 7.1 yd inland at the reported beach) held back by nothing but the terrain having drawn first; the tie it would settle does not exist here (our foam patch IS the liquid surface's own triangles — same cells, same winding, identity transform — so the depths agree exactly), and −4.0 is a hardcoded immediate every consumer of that state gets, not the foam lane's number; the slope term is disarmed with an `== 0.0` assert, reproduced three ways at the director's pin (slope 0 stops dead at the waterline, 4.0 washes onto the sand, 64.0 does it wide)
- weapon and defense skill bonuses showed the halves the wrong way round: the reader every skill-shaped binding goes through (`0x5ea460`) writes `value + permBonus` and `tempBonus`; ours returned `(value, temp + perm)` — right total, wrong split, which is why no fixture caught it — so a 300 weapon skill with a +5 talent and a +10 aura read 300 (+15) where the reference prints 305 (+10), on the sheet's Attack row and in the Defense tooltip's `(base +x)`; `UnitRangedAttack` is also pinned as a direct call gated on the PLAYER typemask alone, so a pet gets `(0, 0)`
- instruments: `water_here` also reports WET cells the ground climbs out of (the skirt a depth bias spends), the foam wake can be laid along a bank (`WOW_WFX_HEAD`) since no shoreline in the game is axis-aligned, `fxview` can stand its subject at any world point (`WOW_FX_AT`) so a blob shadow can be photographed on any terrain, and `WOW_MAP` refuses a name instead of silently falling through to Eastern Kingdoms — `WOW_MAP=Kalimdor` had produced a subject floating in empty ocean that read as a renderer bug

SamandClaude Fable 5.1 1f3ec2d538 the waterline stops stepping, and mobs in far rooms lose the keep's fog
- the step in the water at the shore, which travelled with you as you walked: `WATER_BIAS` (−2e4) exists to give the water pass its sort slot, and bevy's `StandardMaterial` also packs that f32 into the rasterizer's depth bias, so every water surface in the game shipped with a −20000 depth pull — on the one world surface that meets the ground at a grazing angle over tens of yards that does not settle a tie, it moves the waterline, and a float depth buffer's bias unit doubles at every exponent boundary, so two water triangles either side of one stopped agreeing about where the shore is, at a fixed distance from the eye; the bias is out of the rasterizer (a ~17 px jog at the reported Stranglethorn beach, present before and absent after)
- the foam wake went dull under the next water chunk and painted onto dry sand: it sorted against ONE water surface with a coplanar epsilon (the chunk 33 yd nearer the eye outranked it thirty times over, while the reference drains every liquid queue before it draws foam, `0x6816d0`), and its coplanar settle was a 0.03 yd geometric LIFT, which on a 29% beach is 0.10 yd of dry sand painted and proportionally more on every flatter shore; it is a rung above the whole water band now and sits exactly on the plane, and the RE on its depth state came back: a depth-buffer bias (`footstepBias × [0x810390]`), depth-tested LEQUAL with write off — the "−2048 GL units polygon offset" our comment justified the lift with existed nowhere in wow-re
- a unit standing in a room the camera's chain does not reach wore the building's fog while the walls around it wore the scene's: the reference's unit test has a second conjunct (`[P+0x98]`, the same `[0xca7f00]` chain gate the walls use), so the attach ray now returns the room it claimed and the gate is re-read every frame because it moves with the CAMERA — at Shadowfang, from inside the pinned room, three true interiors are in frame across the courtyards and a mob in g13, 91 yd out, wore the keep's teal at ~84% against a scene fog of ~3%
- two instruments for the shore class of report: `water_here <map> <x> <y>` reads a shoreline offline (the wet-cell lattice, the plane on it, the terrain under it, and the four scans that tell an authored defect from a rendered one), and `WOW_CAPTURE=waterfx WOW_WFX_AT=x,y,z` wades the foam rig in the REAL streamed water at a pin, where the synthetic square had no bank to clip against

SamandClaude Fable 5 80551cab5e the cave hides the lake, the lifts come back, the bolt gets its width
- from inside a building the open-world water outside draws only through a doorway you can see, as terrain and trees already did — the Caverns of Time lake is gone from the cavern's ceiling: there was never a second visibility lane for open-world liquid (the old deferral said "it already has an authority"; a sweep of every visibility writer found none, so Bevy's frustum test was the lake's only gate), an ADT liquid layer is tagged exterior scene at spawn and the existing window cull owns it, one 33 yd chunk layer at a time — which the reference's bytes then confirmed is its unit too (`CChunkLiquid`, reachable only from the per-window walk, a sealed room's supply discarded not deferred); a building's own pool also rides the Map Objects toggle now, so switching buildings off no longer leaves the canals hanging in the air
- the Thunder Bluff elevators and every other Kalimdor lift were invisible for the whole session whenever you logged in on that continent: the lift arm snapshotted the current map one stage before the login frame had written it, so every lift compared itself against map 0 and hid as off-map — a lift carries no map at all now (it is only ever streamed to players standing on its own map), the off-map term stays for the boats it was written for, and `WOW_LIFT_CENSUS` prints each transport's arm state, cycle and visibility (13 transports, 11 hidden → 0)
- the lightning across Razorgore's room and Chain Lightning's mob-to-mob hop drew as hairlines: the chain renderer took each hop's cross-section as the world-horizontal perpendicular, where the reference takes `(−d.y, d.x, 0)` in eye space — the ribbon is view-plane aligned and keeps its authored 2 × halfWidth yards at every angle, so a long level beam watched from its own plane no longer thins to a line (the "a hop seen end-on genuinely collapses" note was wrong and is gone)
- a display that names a model builds even when it draws no batch — Naxxramas' Unholy Axe / Swords / Staff are an invisible stalker holding a Monster weapon, and the held weapon had nowhere to hang; the same gate was keeping 43 emitter-only GameObjects dark (house and blacksmith smoke, Ironforge's lava steam, Stratholme's embers, every firework), and a name sits at the authored PlayerName attachment instead of at the feet; and a vendor's foot-shuffle on turning to you now blends the whole way in and runs to its own clip window — a 500 ms step on 1100 of 1130 shipped shuffle records — where the latch had tested the gap left against a band sixty times too wide, and nothing ever ended the step

SamandClaude Fable 5 3697e85525 the zone counters line up, and the ballista shine holds still
- the world-state readout — the top-centre counters a battleground or Silithus keeps up — takes the reference's real geometry: every icon those rows name is a sprite authored into the upper-left corner of a power-of-two canvas (`AllianceTower` is 16×16 of ink at (3,2) in a 32×32 file), nothing anywhere crops it, and the reference compensates geometrically — a 42×42 slot hung 6 units off the row's left edge with the label seated 10 above its centreline, taken as one system; our snug 20×20 box stripped exactly that compensation, so the art drew at half size floating away from its own `0/200` label — and an empty icon column now reserves its rect instead of sliding the text left, which straightens the readout's left edge
- the dynamic icon is a second slot, not a swap: `Icon` and `DynamicIcon` feed two different regions and shipped content never mixes them, so the flag is a 32×32 button off the row's right edge with an ADD-blend flash overlay pulsing 0.5 s in / 0.5 s out, lit only at `uiState == 2` — the flag-taken value; before, any non-zero state replaced the static art, which fires on the ordinary state 1 and hid a faction shield that should never have moved, and the pulse's alpha ramp is now pinned by a test, not just its art
- the dev cost pill yields the band: the readout is the game, the pill is scaffolding, and a stock 1.12 UI has no free corner to move house to — so it steps below whatever the readout draws, reading `WorldStateAlwaysUpFrame:GetBottom()` on its own 4 Hz cadence and only while it is drawing, rather than mirroring the frame's row pitch in Rust; the probe's cost is stated at the site (an edge read settles the layout — up to one graph solve, ~47 µs, four times a second)
- the Hearthglen ballista's bolt heads and shields stop flickering: a shine layer is a second batch over its base's own triangles, and ours split the pair across lanes — the base rode the retained lane's f64 CPU bake while the env-mapped, additive, no-depth-write shine stayed on the entity path's f32 GPU rotate, and a few ULPs between coplanar surfaces turns the depth test into a per-pixel coin flip re-rolled by every camera move; a batch now names the M2 skin section it draws, neither member of a shared section diverts into a consolidator (depths equal by construction), and a corpus census bounds the cost — 1,080 of 9,691 models draw a section more than once, 264 such sections across 221 `World\` doodads — with toggling pixels at the pin dropping 0.26% to 0.14%, matching the consolidators-off arm bit-for-bit

SamandClaude Fable 5 dddf16e963 the auction house opens, the Honor tab lands, and a day of fixes
- the auction house end to end: right-clicking an auctioneer opens Browse/Bids/Auctions on the server's reply — search, the category tree from your own DBCs, the reference's 50-a-page pager, multi-key sorting (directions corrected at the bytes), bid/buyout, the sell slot with deposit and duration, cancel with its fee popup; prices sit on the reference's own money-frame kit in lined-up columns, the twenty auction messages split refusals-red / outcomes-to-chat, and a won or sold auction reads as a proper mail receipt — the window's Lua re-worded in our own terms after the overlap ratchet caught the first cut leaning on the reference's text
- the PvP honor system whole: the Honor tab and the inspect page over a real wire model, with current rank and highest-ever rank correctly two different fields
- a day of reported fixes: WASD survives a /logout re-entry, addon settings save on a window close and Cmd+Q (exactly once — a mac close could fire the tail twice), clams open again, random-enchant items name themselves on every surface, the loot window's rows hold their seats with legible counts, idle players stop sinking through building floors, the shooter re-pulls between Auto Shots, portraits loosen ~19% to the client's own aspect-1.0 matrix, and big creatures thump the camera off the CameraShakes table
- character select clicks like 1.12 — captions whiten on hover, buttons fire on release, Humans face straight ahead off the stage bone's real yaw, the facing is per-character, and hunter/warlock pets stand beside you at their family-ramp size with their own emitters (the imp's flames), the Voidwalker's sequence-hidden shackles culled
- the smaller player-facing set: nameplate on/off rows in Options with the CanAttack category gate (emissaries stop plating), the bonus bar slides up with igBonusBarOpen, the camera's framing height glides on a shapeshift, the open letter evicts the centre seat, the far-band fog hull stops printing a pale horizon stripe at low view distance, the guide arrow is gold with per-source rim art, error text fades through its shadow too, and /convertraid converts the party
- README: the auction house and PvP honor move out of "not built yet"

SamandClaude Fable 5 622d5d25b2 the minimap's black lines close out, and shared water cells draw once
- the Stormwind/Orgrimmar minimap lines are gone, at the cause: a group's boundary tile is authored 1.0 yd larger on that side alone, so touching groups overlap by 2 yd — without the bleed a LINEAR-filtered silhouette loses ≈0.38 texel at every abutment and the black clear reads through as a dashed line; with it, disc black goes 4.49% → 3.69% and no lines, inside the reference's own band
- the tile sampler stays LINEAR but filters in gamma space (`GL_SKIP_DECODE_EXT`, as the reference's trace has it) — a terrain underlay and a NEAREST sampler both reproduced the symptom and were both retracted as wrong once wow-re refuted them
- the canal-surface line in the world was a second defect: Stormwind's canal groups genuinely overlap (14,416 lattice points claimed wet twice), so the translucent sheet composited twice — the MLIQ `0x80` shared-tile gate now resolves each shared cell to one owner at load, pixel-identical and zero double-claimed points, not one wet point lost
- the interior composite is probeable headless now: `WOW_MM_PROBE` synthesises the minimap slot server-less, and an offline rebuilder reproduces the defect and the fix from the shipped art

SamandClaude Fable 5 23f23d36e0 there are three water renderers, and WMO water gets its two
- WMO water stops running the terrain-liquid program: the material key names WHICH renderer a pool takes, and the two WMO arms land — Blackfathom Deeps' interior pools take their authored per-vertex opacity and the material's own body colour (34, 38, 57 there — the dark blue-grey in the reference shot) instead of coming out opaque and daylit on the zone's river swatch
- the exterior WMO arm bands at sub-17, not sub-16 — teal, not olive — which is what the Stormwind canals actually read as
- a hole corner's authored height no longer counts as a height, and a corpus-wide instrument reports which WMO water arm every pool takes
- the ADT/Felwood golden sweep is bit-identical: open-world water is provably untouched

- interiors go honest: footsteps stop crunching the terrain's snow through a building's floor, and tavern voices are authored dry, so the fake cave echo is gone
- snow is the reference's again — point-sprite flakes at the era's pixel size, and a spawn slab that leans into your run so a runner no longer outruns the field
- Stormwind stops drawing Elwynn through its walls, a looted quest crate's lid settles, cold zones puff visible breath, and the collect-quest toast fires only on a real advance

SamandClaude Fable 5 90efd4efad the voidwalker's eyes come back, and skinning becomes ours
- The voidwalker's eye glow vanished whenever the camera rose above eye level.
Three investigations said depth; measuring the depth buffer inside the live
quads said otherwise — the fragments reached the framebuffer every frame, and
the body's own transparent batches painted over them. The real client draws a
model's particles after that model's batches, always. Ours now does: every
effect carries a draw-order rung sized to clear exactly its own model.
- Widened to every effect family after asking "what else does this fix": ribbon
trails (a wisp's streamers wove six batches deep into its own body and
flickered as the head whipped) and 3-D model particles (Cone of Cold's
shards). A census over all 9,691 models found 967 whose own body could paint
over their effects; all take the rung now.
- The skinning lane is ours end to end: every rig's joint matrices live in our
shared GPU buffer, written only when a rig actually moved, and our shader
reads them. The engine's lane rewrote the entire joint buffer every frame and
swept every entity in the world for changed transforms — that machinery now
runs against empty sets. Another 6.7 CPU ms off the worst reported dungeon
spot, which now holds a flat 60 fps with p99 under 19 ms.
- Getting around while developing: Ctrl+Cmd+G lands your character where the
free-fly camera is, and Alt-clicking the world map teleports you there (both
ride the server's own teleport, GM-gated). The frozen-body coordinates the
panel used to copy while flying now follow the camera.
- A stuck main thread now diagnoses itself: a watchdog samples our own stacks
and prints where the time went, and a hung teardown names its last system
  instead of hanging the window.

SamandClaude Fable 5 d00912edd0 crowded dungeons back to 60 fps: two per-NPC costs collapse
- The dungeon framerate reports were right about the mechanism: the cost is
CPU-side and it scales with NPC count, not with what's drawn. Two per-unit
lanes were each 30–100x more expensive than the work they do. Measured at the
reported Lower Blackrock Spire spot: 29.7 ms/frame, 72 CPU ms, before.
- "Which room is this NPC in" scanned whole dungeon groups triangle by
triangle — a spire stacks several 15k-face groups into any vertical column,
so 37 moving NPCs cost 1.2 million triangle tests per frame. Each group's
faces now sit in a column index built at load; same verdicts (pinned by
exactness tests), 88k tests, the lane drops from 11.3 ms to 1.1 ms.
- Animating one creature cost ~190 microseconds per frame in generic per-bone
animation machinery — hash lookups and boxed curves per bone, mostly to
produce constants. A direct pose evaluator now does the same math into the
same joints for ~16 microseconds per rig, checked bone-for-bone against the
old output across crossfades, overlays and masks. The reference animates
every in-range unit with no view cull, and now so can we: a raid's worth of
animating rigs (~450) costs ~4 CPU ms where it used to cost ~85.
- Net at the reported spot: a flat 60 fps. The performance probes also learned
to report CPU work (ms and %) instead of wall-clock fps, which is what makes
these numbers repeatable on a busy machine — and comparable to the Mac
  report's own units.

SamandClaude Fable 5 fd54ea9197 walkers keep walking, and dungeon entrances stop dropping you
- A creature that was already walking when it came into view stood frozen at
its spawn point, then teleported — up to a full wander leg, 30 yards in the
worst measured case — when its next movement packet arrived. The create
packet carries the live path (where the unit is along it, how much is left)
and we parsed all of it into the void. The unit now joins its walk exactly
where the server has it: measured before/after, 13% of movement starts were
  over-a-yard teleports, now effectively zero.
- Walking into Zul'Gurub or Stratholme through the portal dropped you straight
through the world. The landing check asks "is there a floor under me?" — but
on the arrival frame the loaded world is still the map you just left, and an
instance entrance is a copy of its outdoor ground at the same coordinates,
0.23 yards under your feet. The old floor said yes, then despawned. The hold
now waits for the destination's own ground to arrive, and a world that never
arrives keeps the loading screen instead of dropping you into the void.
- Same fix covers a decoder hazard found on the way: a plain two-point path
announces two points but ships only the destination, and trusting the count
over-ran the packet — it never fires on our server's pathfinder, but now it
  can't.

caret blink. The password box masks what you copy off it, like the original.
- Copy/paste on Linux had two independent causes, one per direction: our window
is Wayland but the clipboard backend spoke X11 only, and a copy relinquished
the X11 selection the moment it returned (an X11 clipboard lives only as long
as its owning connection). Both fixed — Wayland windows get a real Wayland
clipboard, X11 keeps a held handle. AltGr is not Ctrl anymore either, so
Polish and German layouts can type ą, ć and ź in chat instead of triggering
  select-all. Compile-checked on Linux; wants a real-session retest.
- The exterior sun keeps its colour. A per-channel clamp saturated the warm
  continental sun to pale yellow-white on every sunlit fence, post and doodad;
the clamp now happens once, at the sum, so the fiery orange survives — the
reported Silverpine fence and Blackrock steps match the reference's own
  arithmetic.
- A pool has a floor. Undercity's upper slime channels claimed the dry room a
storey below them — 115 yards down still read as submerged. A pool now stops
at its own room's floor; a sweep of every building in the shipped world found
51 such stacked sites across 6 buildings, all closed.
- Ctrl/Cmd+Z hides the whole UI layer for clean screenshots, and instrumented
debug runs open their window in the background instead of stealing focus.

SamandClaude Fable 5 0d945c4fe8 particles keep time, and the maps with no terrain appear
- Twenty of the game's forty-three maps are not made of terrain at all — Molten
Core, Onyxia's Lair, Dire Maul, Gnomeregan, Uldaman, the Deeprun Tram and both
Blackrocks among them. Their whole world is one building named by the map file,
and that line was being thrown away, so those maps loaded nothing and a teleport
in fell forever. The building is now placed as an ordinary WMO placement — so
collision, props, liquid, interior lighting and portals all come along on the
existing path — verified on seven of the twenty against the server's own
  independent floor heights.
- Particles keep the model's time. Emitter rate and on/off now bake per animation
sequence and follow the clip that is actually playing, so a quest object's
explosion choreography no longer burns at full roar while the object idles. And
the flipbook cell ramp is computed the way the reference computes it: sheets
that play backwards no longer crash the client (a certain Winterspring brazier
fired this on every approach), the tail streak reads its own ramp instead of the
head's, and the per-segment repeat count works — the Insect Swarm's wings
  finally flap.
- A culled dungeon room takes its furniture with it: lanterns, crates, barrels and
cobwebs now cull with the WMO group that owns them, instead of hanging lit in
the void where their room used to be. The group's own liquid goes along too.
- Under the floor: the archive chain pins that a file the patch deletes can never
fall through to the stale copy in a base archive — a silent failure mode that
would serve deleted content looking perfectly healthy.

SamandClaude Fable 5 2c55790ec1 portals work, GameObjects animate, and the tent stops flickering
- Area triggers exist now, so portals work: every teleport pad, dungeon entrance
and enter-a-place quest volume reports the reference's own way — one exit latch,
first containing volume on the map wins, a sphere or a yawed box. Verified live:
Rut'theran to Darnassus, the Deadmines worldport, and a level-gated entrance
refusing with the server's own "You must be at least level 10 to enter."
- GameObjects animate. Every animated object arms its idle the moment it goes live
(doors and chests used to flash bind pose for a frame), a missing rest pose is
remapped the way the reference remaps it instead of playing nothing — the
Ahn'Qiraj gate's root tangle stood frozen for want of a Closed clip — and the
state machine covers the verified twenty of thirty-one object types instead of
three: fourteen hundred spawns' worth of traps, goobers, books and questgivers
now change pose off the wire.
- The flickering tent is still. Cloth you can see from both sides is authored as
two reversed copies of the same sheet, and the real client backface-culls each
copy from its wrong side so exactly one covers any pixel; we drew every building
batch two-sided, which left the winner to floating-point noise, flickering while
the camera crept. WMO materials now honor their cull flag.
- A sweep of long-standing visual bugs: effects respect the far-clip wall — a
ferry's deck lanterns were drawing from 7,000 yards away; the night-elf eye glow
goes out in first person instead of leaving two orbs burning in mid-air; the
goblins' stray white hair tuft is gone (a duplicated table key resolved last-wins
where the client scans first-wins); lava and slime finally have their own
submerged view — the dense fiery orange and dense green of the real thing, off
two fixed lighting rows nothing in the zone data points at; and the far-horizon
band overlaps the detailed terrain instead of leaving a strip of sky at lowered
  view distance.
- Two caught at the keyboard: the backpack icon greys instead of vanishing while
the escape menu is up, and the world map is a real panel now — it can no longer
open over the menu, and ESC closes it first like everything else.

SamandClaude Fable 5 c1ba444119 the micro menu, the ping meter, and the PvP flag
- The main menu bar's two empty recesses fill. The micro menu — the eight arched
buttons: character, spellbook, talents, quest log, socials, world map, main menu,
help — sits in the dark panel between the page arrows and the bags, transcribed
from the reference's own layout: the character button wears your portrait, a button
holds itself down while its panel is up, and the talent button appears at level 10.
The latency meter fills the one slot the bar art leaves transparent for exactly it,
tinted green/yellow/red on the reference's 300/600 ms thresholds and drawn UNDER
the bar art, seen through its window, the way 1.12 actually does it. The socials
and main-menu buttons find their panels one snapshot later; help still waits.
- The UI explains itself on hover: 1.12 ships its detailed two-line tooltips ON — a
FrameXML default, not the opt-in extra it is often remembered as — so the micro
buttons, your own portrait, the XP bar, the five bag buttons and the ping meter
all answer a hover with the reference's own explanations.
- The PvP flag, end to end: crossed swords on the player, target and party frames,
driven by the two descriptor bits the wire actually carries, and `/pvp` speaks —
the yellow toast plus the system chat line, the OFF sentence being the one that
warns the flag lingers for five minutes. It really does linger: turning it off
waits out the server's timer, which looks like a bug and is the reference.
- Quest markers stopped freezing. The grey `!` over a questgiver above your level
goes gold the moment you ding, an NPC re-entering view is asked afresh instead of
wearing a session-old answer, and the marker drops when the questgiver bit goes
off — the re-ask triggers mirror the reference's own set, plus one named addition
  (your own level changing).
- Water and heights: swimming downhill no longer bounces between swim and fall ten
times a second — the surface line is a two-sided constraint, so the swimmer
settles with the river instead of being left behind by it. And collision height
is per-unit now, read from the unit's own model: a gnome used to swim with a
third of a yard of water over her head because five depth lines were quoting a
  human's number.
- A round of pixel honesty in text and chat: the newest chat line no longer wears a
wider drop shadow than every line above it (shadows move in whole pixels now),
keeps its descenders, and hover boxes stop painting over the chat body. The chat
input's history browse survives programmatic edits, a failed script chunk warns
instead of vanishing, and recall deepens to 64 lines. Idle animation got honest
too: a model's idle is Stand resolved through its own lookup table — never
file order, which had the duel flag bobbing on its spawn clip — and an armed idle
is culled on the box its animation authors, not the bind pose, so the flag stops
  vanishing at most camera angles.
