Hello,
I am experiencing a very unusual connection problem on OctoWoW which started during the recent DDoS attacks and has been ongoing for several days.
The problem:
When I enter the world, the game sometimes shows 0 ms latency indefinitely. During this state the game world is only partially loaded:
my character does not appear/load correctly
NPCs appear as "Unknown"
spells do not load or work
I cannot interact with NPCs or the world
I cannot properly move or perform actions
sometimes, after a long time, the latency changes to extremely high values such as 10,000–28,000 ms
At one point I also experienced a different version of the problem: actions I performed were delayed by tens of seconds or even minutes and then happened all at once. For example, I cast a buff on myself and started attacking a mob; several actions were eventually processed together after a long delay.
Interestingly, during these problems I could sometimes see other players moving around me, although some players appeared to be standing still or moving only in a straight line. My friend was able to play normally at the same time.
I have tried to isolate the problem:
My normal ping to 1.1.1.1 is ~8–15 ms
Ping to the OctoWoW server IP 185.165.170.33 is ~73–80 ms and stable
My ISP replaced my entire router, but the problem remained exactly the same
The problem occurs on two different PCs in the same household
It also occurred when using a T-Mobile mobile hotspot
I tried Proton VPN through the Netherlands, but the problem remained
My friend logged into my account from his PC/network and had completely normal latency of approximately 67–80 ms and could play normally
There is also an interesting character-related aspect. At one point my Paladin was playable with normal latency, while my Priest was affected by the problem. After logging out and trying again later, the problem returned. So the issue does not appear to simply be a permanently broken account or character.
Today the WoW client also crashed with:
ERROR #132 (0x85100084) Fatal Exception
0xC0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION)
The memory could not be "read".
I am not sure whether the crash is related to the connection problem, but I am including it because it occurred while testing the issue.
Because this started around the time of the recent DDoS attacks, and because normal ICMP connectivity to the server is stable while the actual WoW game communication is not, I am wondering whether this could be related to the current DDoS mitigation, connection point, routing, or a particular game/session server.
Could you please check the server-side logs for my connection/account and see whether my client is connecting correctly to the game server and whether the server is actually sending the expected game data back to me?
I can provide screenshots, timestamps, character names, tracert results or any other information you need.
Thank you for your help.
