What is the long term goal of Octo's developers?

Post#1 » Sat Aug 22, 2026 1:45 pm

Hi,

I really appreciate all the work and new features such as the 25 quest log expansion and bringing back all the Turtle features and raids. That said, I wonder what the long term idea is for the development team. Are you going to add:

-new races (ogre and furbolg were talked about for years on Turtle for instance and both had full animation sets made for them);
-new zones (Ghostlands was often mentioned all the way back to 2021, Outlands also mentioned);
-new dungeons/raids;
-new major quests or other additions?

It would be nice with some clarity here - to know whether the team plans on only restoring and bringing back some nice features with solid smaller improvements VS. a more ambitious expansion plan with major additions like the ones (and others) mentioned above.

They have the roadmap showing some of their future plans: https://octowow.st/roadmap.

I know about the roadmap, but if you look at that, it reads more as Turtle phases, not as any Octo specific content. That's actually the perfect illustration of why we need clarity regarding Octo devs' own ideas in addition to the vanilla+turtle roadmap.

So this unhelpful comment is all that can be added here? If you want to post something, then at least do it with an intention to help the topic rather than just "they talked about it, but I am not going to tell you what they said".

I don't know man, but they can do 2 simple things before devoloping game.

1- Fix website recaptcha which is extra slow and user unfriendly. Just use something like Google recaptcha or I don't know man maybe generate 6 numbers and let us write, it is pain to even login website.

2- Fix Website's Time Zone, messages displayed in server time zone, is it really that hard to convert server time to user time zone ? message times confuses a lot...

And open suggestion section back.

Ok, I'll just consider Darktifa a troll and ignore.

@Lavida They have divided Suggestion forums in these slightly awkward categories (pve/pvp/hardcore) which don't really add up when you have general suggestions cross-server (which most suggestions are after all). In any case, you can still write in those :)

Careful... Kestrel will actually ban you for calling his pet forum shill out.

And to answer your question, no, there are no long term goals here, the roadmap has a release schedule long enough to make end-stage Cataclysm blush, they're biding time fixes bugs and stealth nerfing some classes but to actually make content they're going to need 3d modellers, actual coders, and other things Claude can't cover. Pretty hard to do when you only pay in shitcoins (if said specialists can even land a guarantee they'll be paid at all).

No trolls here in that case, I didn't mean it - sorry!

Thanks for a clear answer. What about WoTLK and TBC assets? (I mean, they already use some from TBC)

Personally at this stage, I would be happy if they just made a few quests and spell additions to classes on the utility side of things (borrowed from TBC).

When Turtle first released HE and goblins, their zones were tiny level 1-6 parts of existing zones. I guess Octo could do something similar as a first introduction to Ogres and... furbolgs or whatever the Alliance would get ; )
As a matter of fact, I think both of those starting zones had a lot of charm and were solid additions. It took several years before the two races were given fully-fledged 1-10 zones, so a similar model could work for Octo if they want to do it. Also, I believe Turtle had already made full animations for these two races (correct me if I am wrong).
