Its not their problem to solve, it's a problem with some users' ISP DNS servers. There are many tools that one can use to check DNS around the world and there are some providers blocking octowow.st and/or normal.octowow.st (the pve server). For the majority of the Internet those hostnames are resolving perfectly fine, but some network providers are failing to resolve.

The workaround is for affected users to force their computer to resolve the hostname for the pve server. But the fix has been posted in numerous threads and DIscord pages for almost 2 days now. How about reading the forum for like 5 minutes before lashing out and not making yourself look like trashy stupid "pour" bastards.

It has come to our attention that several developers who created or forked open source addons for OctoWoW on GitHub have been served (absurd and unenforceable) C&D letters. It is our firm recommendation that any and all parties comply with these letters.

This is yet another reminder that GitHub is not, and never will be, a safe place to develop software in this space. We strongly encourage any and all developers who would like to contribute to our open source ecosystem to exclusively use their own private Gitea instances, or our own self hosted octowow.st/git instance.

I can also recommend Codeberg. It's also using Gitea/Forgejoe. Chances are that Gitea/Forgejoe also will support federation, this will increase the relatability.

Are those real CnD from Blizzard's lawyers?

Why would Blizzard go after GitHub contributors, instead of.. idk Ravencraft, who is both on Discord and also using cloudflare?

Seeing as Microsoft owns both Github and Blizzard, it is a possibility.

This does not make logical sense; to me all Blizzard has to do is contact GitHub to have the stuff removed. Why would they spend money to file legal paperwork or potentially go to court when all they have to do is claim brand protection and GitHub/Discord will just remove said posts or files? There are SO many private server addons there, and you think they only would send to Octowow? But the other clones are fine, and their add-on developers are also fine.... It honestly seems like you guys are being socially engineered at this point. I'd like to see said C/D. If it is a legal notice being mailed to their home address, then I could see how it would seem legit, but websites like freepeoplesearch can get someone's personal info very easily, for free, with just one bit of info.

The point would be to scare people into not bothering to develop addons for private servers.

I cannot sign-in in the octowow git.

Unfortunately we have had an issue with spam bots on the Gitea instance and have had to manually approve new accounts. We just did another batch of approvals but if anyone is unapproved they are always welcome to DM me on the forums or email us at octowow@proton.me (although we are behind on our emails at the moment).
