Feedback from a HC newbie

Hello everyone,

I have been playing on the Hardcore realm - my mage is my first HC char ever and I've been having a blast. I am about to hit level 20 or so, however, I've decided to quit.

So far I've seen 3 rogues - level 22, level 41 and level 60 roaming Westfall. I have my PvP mode off, however, they camp near mobs I fight and therefore I can forget using frost nova like ever. I've opted out of PvP, just want to beat the game which is kind of "enjoyfully stressing" on it's own. I don't wanna die to a stupid PvP tag. As a mage, I planned to AoE farm a lot. One stupid tag by some sweet irl guys (no doubt about that, definitely) camping you in PvP mode is not enjoyful. I am not sure whether something can be done about that technically, I am not a developer, however, it is plain stupid. I wrote in world for people to be careful and yet in about 1 hour 3 guys died by the aforementioned pvp tag, losing their invested hours not by a missplay, but by a stupid gameplay mechanic that they never opted in for.

Still, I had a blast and want to encourage you to keep up the good work - server is running smoothly, only one short lagspike in the time I played, the additions are also great! Stay alive, people!

Your aoe spells don't affect PvP toggled players unless you are toggled for PvP bro

Yes, since TurtleWoW, AOE spells can not damage someone who is flagged for PvP if you are not flagged for PvP yourself. AFAIK You can not even intentionally target them and cast a direct spell - it will tell you you have to flag for PvP first.

As others have mentioned, you're safe mate. The only way you can get flagged is if you type /pvp or if you attack a NPC that is PVP flagged or get attacked by one. For example walking into an opposing factions town would get you flagged, but the guards would probably kill you before any players would. There are a rare few mobs / quests in the world that result in you being flagged. The wandering guards in Swamp of Sorrows can be problematic for Alliance for example, but I think that the one quest there that directed Alliance to kill some flagged targets no longer results in a PVP flag for you while it did back on Turtle.

Then there's Watami and the Felwood mobs that can Mind Control you which *can* result in you getting PVP flagged.

But for example if one of those Rogues stood in front of you, you could target them and try to cast a single target damage spell and you would just get an error message-- and you absolutely do not have to worry about any kind of AOE.

So yeah to be clear you do have to be somewhat careful, but only regarding NPCs.

These do not flag you here. This was changed in TurtleWoW. Cannot verify the other ones that were an issue on Classic HC realms.

Are you sure it's fixed here? Because if Turtle changed that it wasn't thaaaaat long ago as I definitely got flagged there on my Rogues HC run. I believe I'd heard it was fixed on Turtle but are you sure that carried over to Octo?
