Adding addons/mods to client files from where and how?

Post#1 » Thu Sep 24, 2026 4:34 pm

I'm new to modding. I have downloaded the client files. (I'm not using the launcher - couldn't connect to server to download because of DDoS).

I see the launcher has a nice list of addons and mods. But I only have the client files. Where do you guys find the mods yourself and how do you add them to the game? (in the client files)

Try using the octo updater, it's a custom launcher some dude made, not bad at all. It allows you to download popular mods and addons, it has them all listed in there (plus easy to update them).
If you want to do it manually yourself, addons go into the Interface\AddOns\ folder, and all DLL mods go into the base install folder (so that the .dll files are next to the wow.exe).

(I hope you know how to find the .exe on GitHub)

Yea sadly it does that. I've whitelisted it. I can't vouch for it 100%, but it does seem legit, and it does actually do the thing you expect it to do (update the game, download/update addons and mods, apply tweaks to the game).

This is the first time in my life that I got warned from a Firefox download.
Firefox warns:
```
You can search for an alternate download source or try again later
I don't have anything else to say. If it's sketchy for you, you can do all of it manually. You could also probably check the code yourself and compile it, but I assume that's a giant hassle and too hard for most people.
The official octo launcher also had similar issues before where it got reported as a virus.
I've pasted the whole python script to an AI and asked it if it does anything malicious. It said no. So the only possible scam I could see here is if the provided .exe is not exactly the code that's shown on GitHub. But that seems very unlikely to me at this point. I've used the updater for a month or so, and haven't seen anything suspicious so far.
But once again, don't blindly trust me, investigate for yourself if you want. Or just don't use it if you don't feel it.
