High Elf warlocks

It would be nice to be able to play as a high elf warlock. There's an NPC in Alah'thalas researching on using the crystals from the blood elves in the western side of the zone so a hidden warlock trainer teaching alternative methods to stave off the hunger would be cool.

The use of Fel magic is what separates the High elves and the Blood elves (atleast in TWOW story).

High elves cannot be warlocks, because every High elf warlock is already a Blood elf, likely working under Keal'thas.

There are certain ambiguous characters, like the mage who sends you collect the fel crystals, you mentioned, but the story portrays these as hidden traitors, loyal to the elven prince.

The TWOW story of High elves explicitly doesn't allow them to be warlocks.

IIRC, TWoW's vision for Kael'thas was that he would return as a hero and the rightful king of both Quel and Sin'dorei after the events of the planned Quel'thalas patch before the server shut down. The possibility is there even though the initial Alah'thalas quests lead you to believe that he is a traitor.

Fel magic used to feed your thirst for magic is one thing but to use it to summon demons is another. Human warlocks perform their practice in secret so why wouldn't a high elf be able to do so?

Limitations characterise a race far better than allowances. You can always make arguments for edge cases and niche applications but ultimately the most important element of the race/class dynamic is not player expression but narrative expression and the narrative of the High Elves is the feud with the Blood Elves over their adoption of Fel Magic. The class's absence offers more than it's presence would.
