I reccomend yall to try out 22/29/0. You will still be pressing healing spells ( unlike disc priest in wotlk that just presses shield ) and be able to enlighten ( perma pi ) ur best casters.
Keep deep disc for smites please
dont ever add penance lmao that shit belongs in retail
22/29/0 is nonsense, it’s obvious you don’t know what you are talking about. To get Enlighten you go with 21/30/0, but you missed the point anyway.
What makes a game good? Easy-to-learn basics and a long learning curve. Original vanilla gameplay introduced healing spells for the basics, then added Shield, Dispel and Cure, and on top of that an ACTIVE spell that a priest had to cast in between healing and dispelling. It wasn’t just a PASIVE buff with an RNG effect; it needed effort to learn to use it well. Penance was just an example of another ACTIVE spell that could be introduced to prolong the learning curve, and there are many options to add. For example, in FF14 the AST job literally plays a card minigame in between doing fight mechanics, healing and DPSing at the same time.
A priest didn’t have to go deep Discipline to be a good healer; it even handicapped him a little bit. But if he did, the benefit for the raid was greater if it was played well. Moreover, it added a social aspect: it wasn’t meant to be used on yourself, but on another player. Priest had to coordinate the cast with caster(s) for maximum benefit. Power Infusion is the kind of spell that I would call good gameplay design. Patch 1.17 took everything away. It literally made the gameplay worse than the original, and for what? To please toxic sweats, as Zvyrhol mentioned above? If that’s true, it’s the most pathetic decision I have ever seen.
You mentioned Smite priest. There is no reason to gatekeep healers from going deep Discipline; it doesn’t change anything for Smite.
It’s sad for me; I really loved TWoW 1.16. I had hoped Octo would reverse some of the TWoW screw-ups from patches 1.17 and 1.18, but from what I saw over the past few months, they have no intention of making the game better, let alone listening to the community. But fortunately, there is a solution for that!
