Scholomance Is on Break
Entry I: A Most Fortunate Encounter
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

After weeks of lectures, experiments, and the usual academic routine at Scholomance, I decided that a change of scenery was long overdue. With Hallow’s End approaching, rumors of strange festivities had even reached our gloomy halls. Apparently, the living celebrate this time of year by dressing up as monsters. How curious.

So, I finally left the school behind and set out to investigate these peculiar customs for myself.

Image

I had barely made my way to the nearby graveyard gates when I struck up a conversation with the local flight master. He seemed rather impressed by my Hallow’s End attire and, mistaking my everyday academic robes for a particularly convincing costume, complimented my festive spirit.

As a gesture of seasonal goodwill, he even offered me a complimentary flight to Stormwind!

How fortunate. My field research has not yet begun, and already the living are rewarding my efforts.

Perhaps this Hallow’s End business will prove more interesting than I expected.

Entry II: Blending In
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

My arrival in Stormwind was surprisingly uneventful. I had expected at least a few screams, perhaps some frantic guards, or a general sense of alarm. Instead, I found the city bustling with people dressed as bats, skeletons, and all manner of peculiar creatures.

It seems Hallow’s End is the one time of year when looking like a walking corpse is considered fashionable.

Naturally, I decided to inspect the local decorations. The innkeeper had gone to considerable lengths to display a large carved pumpkin and a rather enthusiastic dancing skeleton. I must admit, the craftsmanship was charming. The skeleton’s movements were somewhat exaggerated, but its joints appeared to be in working order.

Image

I demonstrated my own physique in appreciation. One must respect a well-maintained skeletal structure.

Just as I was beginning to feel perfectly at home among the festivities, a local informed me that if I wished to experience the true spirit of Hallow’s End, I should travel to Duskwood.

A place renowned for its gloomy forests, restless dead, and general lack of sunshine?

At last, someone who understands my interests.

I thanked my informant and set off for Duskwood. My field research was about to become considerably more promising.

Entry III: A Remarkable Specimen
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Duskwood has proven to be the highlight of my little excursion.

Upon arriving in Darkshire, I was greeted by what appears to be a rather impressive abomination named Stitches. While the villagers seemed terribly distressed by his presence, I found myself admiring the craftsmanship.

Image

The sheer size! The stitching! The bold approach to anatomical reconstruction! Whoever assembled this specimen clearly understood that necromancy is as much an art as it is a science.

I must have stood there observing him for quite some time. The locals continued screaming and running about, which made it rather difficult to concentrate, but I suppose one cannot expect everyone to appreciate a good piece of work.

I left Scholomance hoping to learn something new about the living and their Hallow’s End traditions. Instead, I may have found a most inspiring example of practical necromancy.

I shall have to tell my professors about this when the holidays are over.

Perhaps I should bring back some notes. Or a few suggestions for the next anatomy class.

— End of field notes —

Shipwrecked and stranded for years in northern Stranglethorn with only his pack of hunting hounds for company. The Houndmaster now stalks the night to hunt unlucky souls who wander too far from the safety of civilization. Their flesh and bone used to satiate the ever-growing pack.

Lost beneath the moonless sky. Crimson cloaked with cackling cry.
Quickened breath and bursting stride.
Look not behind, lest thou shouldst die.

Balor's Haunted Collector lurks through the night,
Pay your gold debts, or vanish from sight.
She demands all the gold the greedy ones owe,
with her axe in hand, there's no where to go.
Pay your gold debts before the bell tolls,
or she'll come for your fortune,
your fame, and your gold.

Driven mad by mid-pull trade windows in a pre-orange world, Karari embraced the arts of the rogue to conceal herself from avoid her water supplying responsibilities. She pursued this path by donning a rogue's clothing to hide her true nature, picking (a limited selection) of locks, and developing previously unknown rogue arts like her secret smoke bomb technique to remain hidden from the mana crazed casters in her raids.

It's a perfect night to lurk in Duskwood, surrounded by creatures of the night.
But beware, while hunting elusive foxes in the bushes, you might stumble upon Adorea, the reclusive vampire.

Oh, she doesn't drink blood... how utterly vulgar. A lady of her standing has standards.
Instead, she gracefully extracts souls with her enchanted sword and sips them from her trusty vial. Much more ladylike, wouldn't you agree?

Image

Her eyes twinkle with the echoes of lost souls, but if she's wearing her shades, consider yourself lucky. It means she's in a good mood, and soul-searching is off the menu tonight.

Nightmare Mon of the Swamps.

Some say he was a brave troll warrior before he became… this. A lost soul, corrupted by ancient artifacts. A seemingly strong mind, forever put into darkness and cold raging madness in which this creature roams the Swamps and butchers anyone on his path... as a quiet whisper could be heard sometimes - "Peace. I bring peace."
