I have battlegrounds on my mind and especially Alterac Valley.
Why does it matter? Because with death of Turtle WoW, Octo WoW becomes one of the 2 successors (maybe 3 if we count Brazilian server) in the world that have pre-nerfed Alterac Valley battleground which is amazing from historic perspective. This battleground should be preserved. And fragmenting potential PvP playerbase that is interested in this battleground effectively kills it.
I'm afraid that releasing PvP realm will lead to same effects to this BG as back when Tel'Abim realm was released on Turtle WoW.
Turtle WoW made same decision to split PvE and PvP realms and looking back at the history, it wasn't good idea in terms of battlegrounds activity. At some point ALL realms struggled with filling battlegrounds. It was especially harmful for Alterac Valley because it required 30 people total to start the match. I was Nordanaar player and despite being the most active server, AV used to pop less frequently than back when Turtle had a single realm with 5-10k players.
It was 2023 I think when there was only 1 realm of 10k players and AV activity was booming game after game. I think there was always at least 1 concurrent AV going on even on non-AV days.
In comparison, this is my personal experience of 1 year period of time AV before Turtle was closed. During this period, combined playerbase of all English speaking realms was larger than back when there was only 1 realm and yet AV activity was much worse. Correct me if I'm wrong about it, I can describe Nordanaar situation with confidence while Tel'Abim and Ambershire situations I know from rumors.
- Nordanaar:
AV on non-AV days was barely played, max 2 AVs happened per day. On AV days there was usually only 1 concurrent AV, sometimes 2 in peak hours and sometimes even 0 - depends what hour it was.
- Tel'Abim:
As far as I know, Tel'Abim AV was non-existent 1 year before Turtle's closure. It's ironic that the only realm that was PvP oriented couldn't deliver AV experience.
- Ambershire:
With amount of population being similar to Nordanaar, I suspect it was very similar to that. I don't know how it really was.
And Alterac Valley is just one battleground. This decision also affects all battlegrounds acitivity.
I know I have no power and I doubt I will change devs mind with this post but if any dev reads this, please don't release PvP realm yet. Not when we have so small population. But if you decide to do so, please think about cross-realm battlegrounds.
