Why should I do any quests?

If rested xp builds so quickly why should I do any quests instead of just mob grinding all the way to 60? Terrible gameplay design. Just stay next to inn then farm the nearest mob group until rested xp is used up, then afk in inn for 5 minutes, repeat. Do this or voluntarily waste time. I understand some people want to "enjoy the journey" or whatever but if you're trying to get to level 60 you would be voluntarily slowing yourself down on purpose if you tried to do quests in this game. Also it feels like the war mode xp bonus is still active on the pvp server, which it shouldn't be, since pvp is just on at all times. And if you're part of an organized group all of your responsibilities to each other is to be at optimal performance levels, which means getting to level 60 asap, to flag for raids, to get better gear, to be able to stomp other players and support your team. Voluntarily slowing yourself down and not just mob grinding on rested xp all the way to 60 would be a disservice to your group.

I feel like if you want to simply reach 60 the fastest way possible, you are correct, you should not quest.

I fear this answer isn't satisfactory but it is applicable nonetheless: above all you should do what is fun to you.
If it is fun to you to grind 60 and make raiding or PvP your hobby - do that.
If it is fun to you to set incremental goals and create a journey in this game - do that.

Alas the only way to play this game wrong is to play it in a way that is boring or meaningless to you personally.

I fear your concern will not touch the Devs because the majority of players do not minmax exp gain, but follow a quest structure and for them the quick rested exp is a nice bonus and an incentive to socialise. Hence it has been a turtle staple for years.
You could propose a change in numbers to the rested system but I feel it is working as intended.

Funnily the original design philosophy for WoW was not to even have quests. There was like 50 quests when Vanilla was in late stages of its beta, and these were all in starter zones to help players understand the game. MMOs at this time were grindfests. Players actually enjoyed reading and doing the quests so they asked for the devs to develop more quests. Even without Rested XP it has always been faster to grind your way to 60.
