How to update without the launcher?

I remember on Turtle WoW the game client could update itself without the launcher, is the same situation here?

I'm on Linux and while I can use the OctoWoW launcher, I prefer not to have it and I downloaded the client through the magnet link.

So if there is an update in the future how will my client get updated? Will I be forced to download the launcher in order to update?

A discord poster created the linked python script. Just drop it in your installation directory and run it from the terminal. I do recommend commenting out line 403, so your exe is not overwritten.

This is a life saver for me. Also on Linux. I updated the launcher under wine, now when I start the launcher I see nothing but a white, blank, window. Glad there is another way to update. (And if the standard way of updating by the client itself would work, I'd be even happier!)

I'm on Linux and I'm using umu-launcher to watch the game client and the launcher. I only really use the launcher to update the game, then I start the game with its own command. But with umu it works and doesn't show a white screen.

Umu-launcher is basically proton-GE but in its own container.

I'm still going to take a look at that script though, might be more simple to run that beforehand every time.

Try PortProton instead of Wine. I've found base Wine to be kind of not good enough especially for games.

Thanks but can you be more precise like what extension format should I use and how do I run it from the terminal?

I saved it as a file named "update.py" and when I put it into the game folder and when I right click it and select "run in terminal" I get the following error message in terminal:

Thanks I did that by I had to write "python3 update.py" and then it worked. I was able to update the game successfully.
