Relationships Quest And Item Browser OctoWoW

Relationships Quest & Item Browser

A World of Warcraft addon for OctoWoW that transforms quest and item links into an interactive browser. Search, browse, and cross-reference quests and items from a single movable window without leaving the game.

---

🚀 Features

🟢 Clickable Chat Links

Every quest ([Quest Name]) and item ([Item Name]) link that appears in chat automatically receives a small green [+] button.

Clicking the [+] instantly opens the linked quest or item in the Relationships browser.

The original Blizzard link remains completely unchanged, so all default functionality continues to work, including:

• Shift-click to link in chat
• Standard tooltips
• Default quest popup

If multiple quest or item links appear in the same chat message, their [+] buttons are neatly stacked so every link remains accessible.

---

🔎 Quest Browser (/rql)

Quickly search the entire bundled quest database.

Search includes:

• Quest titles
• Objectives
• Descriptions

Filters include:

• Level: All, 1–9, 10–19, …, 60+
• Type: Normal, Dungeon, Raid, PvP/Battleground, Class, Profession, Elite
• Faction: Alliance, Horde, Both/Neutral
• Source: Vanilla or OctoWoW Exclusive

Search results are sortable, paginated, and displayed in a scrollable list. Clicking any result opens the full quest details.

---

📜 Quest Details

Open a quest from chat, the search results, or with:

/rql quest <id>

Each quest page includes:

• Color-coded quest difficulty based on your character level
• Quest level, faction, type, and source
• Complete objectives and description
• Starter NPC
• Turn-in NPC
• Objective targets (NPCs, game objects, and items)
• Prerequisite quests displayed as clickable buttons for easy chain navigation
• Related quest items displayed as clickable buttons
• Coordinates for quest starters, turn-ins, and objectives (when available)
• A shift-clickable quest link for quickly sharing in chat

---

📦 Item Browser

Search for any item by name using the dedicated Item Search.

Each item page displays:

• Item icon
• Name
• Quality color
• Item type and subtype
• Required level
• Full tooltip information

The browser also includes a "Used in Quests" section that lists every bundled quest referencing that item. Clicking any quest instantly opens its details.

Items you've never encountered before are also supported by using the game's tooltip cache.

---

Designed for Exploration

Relationships Quest & Item Browser makes navigating quest chains, researching items, and exploring game content significantly faster without replacing Blizzard's default interface. Everything remains fully compatible while adding a powerful layer of searchable, interconnected information.

V1.1

---

Performance Improvements

This update focuses on improving performance and reducing unnecessary CPU usage in the chat integration.

What's Changed

* Removed the constant 33 Hz chat scanning.

* Chat is now scanned only when needed, significantly reducing idle CPU usage.

* Event-driven chat updates.

* Chat scans are now triggered by chat events (Say, Party, Raid, Guild, Whisper, Battleground, Loot, Tradeskills, Channels, and more) instead of continuous polling.

* Smart scan delay.

* A short 50 ms delay is used before scanning to ensure chat messages have finished rendering, improving positioning accuracy.

* Built-in rate limiting.

* Scans are limited to once every 0.25 seconds, preventing excessive updates during busy chat activity.

* Scrolling support retained.

* Scrolling chat (Page Up/Down, Top/Bottom, Mouse Wheel, etc.) now automatically refreshes the [+] buttons, preserving previous behavior without constant background scanning.

* Login initialization.

* A single scan runs 0.3 seconds after login so existing chat messages are processed immediately.

* Smarter frame handling.

* Hidden or inactive chat windows are ignored, avoiding unnecessary work for docked or non-visible chat frames.

Result

The addon now behaves exactly as before while using far less CPU time, especially when idle, making it more efficient during long play sessions.

Great job on this so far, I am sure this is a lot of work.

Question. I have used Aux for years on other private servers and I do quite like it. Do you think there a compelling reason at this time to dump it and use your add-on instead? I'm definitely going to try it out, but just interested in hearing your take!

Thank you so much!

I can't actually give you a comparison because I've never used the Aux addon.

All I can say is to just try both of them out and decide which one is best suited for your needs.

Sorry, I totally had myself confused. I was thinking of this addon instead and posted in the wrong thread: https://octowow.st/git/Relationship/Rel ... ctionPrice

Anyway, I tried this out, and after understanding what it actually does; I think I could find it pretty helpful at times. I think as far as major features go, being able to quickly mark a coordinate pair on the map (for a quest giver, mob location, etc.) pfquest-style would be really helpful. Again, thank you for your time on this.

One minor bug I saw, if you change the background color, the title text color does not change and it still partially brown; not a game-breaker at all, just looks a bit funky in my opinion when using a background other than Parchment or Light Sephia.
