Octopus pet

Some of us never got the chance to join before the permanent opening of registrations, because it took seconds for it to close again. This made it impossible to register without sitting ready each day all day long. I even once got to click on the sign up button, but the complete registration button didn't work. Wouldn't it make more sense to give this pet to all users that joined f.x. within the first month after permanent opening? Since this is still beta?
