ban

Good evening. My account was banned. Friends in the game world found out it was for selling gold.
My character is level 29; I never bought or sold gold. I was selling items on the auction house for 26 silver, but I made a mistake: I listed one stack for 26 gold, and someone bought it. I was thrilled about that, but then on Monday, my account was banned. I realize I have no proof of my innocence. So, let me get this straight: I could level a character to 60, compile a list of everyone I dislike, send them all 20 gold, and get permanently banned? :D :D
I ask that you reconsider the penalty.
I could level up a new character, but there’s no guarantee this won’t happen again. All the friends I came here to play with are in shock and don't feel like playing anymore. One of my friends received 10 gold in the mail, and now he’s unsure whether he should keep leveling his character. Thanks everyone for your attention.

You sold it for 28g actually and that was definitely not a typo, it is a whole different field man. This will not happen again unless you buy gold again

But yes if you auction off random things for absurd prices and then it is bought by a gold seller, or if you randomly accept large quantities of gold from gold sellers, you will be banned.

No your friend will not be at risk for receiving 10g in the mail from a random person. I also don't believe that happened but happy to look into it if you'd like to provider their character name.

You can check the exact sale amount; you can also see that I have repeatedly sold items like this, leveled up professions, and sold plenty of other things. You claim that a gold seller bought gold from me. In that case, if I were to send gold to five different people, would they also be permanently banned for buying gold? I’ve realized I won’t get any justice here. It’s absurd to hand out a permanent ban over 28 coins—especially when a single player, if they wanted to, could easily mail items or gold to others, buy out auctions, and so on, effectively ruining the game for everyone else. It’s not even a huge amount. Why not just remove the gold obtained from the "seller" and issue a warning instead? Unlike the modern version of the game, Classic doesn't have the same auction house features, so we have to list everything manually.I can't start a new character. There are no guarantees that the guys I'm ganking won't order gold from me and ban me again.

So, if I decide to sell an item for more than its price and someone buys it, I’ll get permanently banned?

Or, for example, suppose I list an item for 25 silver, then—as often happens—I misclick and accidentally list the same item for 25 gold, and someone buys it; is that a permanent ban?

This is absurd! We came to play on your server after the "Turtle" server shut down; we have a large team with clearly defined roles and professions. We don't need gold—we farm it ourselves and obtain all in-game items legitimately. Here are our character names:
1. Terok
2. Tucuna
3. Shocktowin
4. Fermer
5. Bashbar
6. Hairloss
7. Tvorozhok
8. Schwarz
We all attest to the fact that our friend made a mistake and listed an item for 28 gold instead of silver, and someone—whether by accident or on purpose—bought it! You can check our characters' online status; activity dropped off after our friend was banned, and we are all now waiting for this situation to be resolved. You are a new server, and you should treat players fairly! Eight of us are telling you it was a mistake, yet you won't even consider that possibility and have issued a permanent ban. Not a warning, not a temporary one-week suspension, but a PERMANENT ban! How is that even possible? How can I keep playing knowing my character could get banned over some absurd situation completely beyond my control? We ask you once again to look into this matter and reconsider your decision. It’s great that you’re fighting against cheaters, but ordinary players shouldn't have to suffer for it.

Hello.

I would like to support my friend regarding his permanent ban.

We started playing on this server together as a group. We came here after our previous server closed, and from the very beginning we have been leveling, farming and earning gold ourselves. None of us has ever needed to buy gold from third-party sellers.

I know exactly what happened with the auction. My friend had been selling the same items for silver many times before. This time he accidentally listed one stack for **28 gold instead of 28 silver**, and someone bought it. We were all surprised when it actually sold. A few days later he received a permanent ban for allegedly selling gold.

From our perspective, this does not look like gold trading at all. It looks like a simple auction mistake that happened to be exploited by someone else.

A permanent ban for a first incident seems extremely harsh, especially when you have access to the complete transaction history. You can see our characters' progression, professions, farming activity, dungeon runs, and the fact that we have always played legitimately.

If this was truly considered suspicious, removing the gold or issuing a warning would have been much more reasonable than permanently banning an active player.

This situation has affected our entire group. We came here to play together, and now several of us are questioning whether we should continue investing our time if an honest mistake can result in a permanent ban.

Please take another look at this case and review all the available logs before making a final decision. We believe you will see that this was not intentional gold trading.

Thank you for your time and for reconsidering the case.

I also fail to understand the reason for such a harsh punishment and ask you to reconsider your policy regarding ordinary players. What made you decide that this gold was actually purchased rather than received due to an error? Am I correct in understanding that I could get anyone in the game banned simply by sending them gold or buying their item at an inflated price on the auction house? Did our friend use this gold for his own gain? No, because he didn't need it! People who buy gold are usually those too lazy to level up professions and earn it themselves in-game—whereas our friend has already leveled up Leatherworking, Survival, Fishing, and Cooking; he is capable of earning that 28 gold in a single day. Why would he take such a risk to buy such a paltry amount only to leave it unused? We play at a slow pace and pause our leveling so we can run Battlegrounds together; you aren't thoroughly analyzing accounts before issuing permanent bans—even Blizzard is more lenient with players in such matters. We ask you once again to review this situation and make a fair decision.

Thanks in advance to the administration OctoWoW

As my friends have already pointed out, this is a very strange punishment system, especially considering the 28g penalty and the possibility of a mistake. Just take the gold and let us keep playing.

I just don’t understand how you determined that he specifically bought gold? Did you just feel it in your heart? While playing on the Turtle WoW server, I spent a lot of time buying and selling items on the auction house, and there was a time when I found an item for twinks for 100 gold and listed it for 1,500 gold, and then someone contacted me personally and bought it from me. So, if that had been someone who was caught buying or selling gold, would I have been banned for buying gold :?: This also seems ambiguous—why, when listing items on the auction house, do I now have to worry about whether I’ve overpriced something, or else I might get banned FOREVER
The story about the item being listed by mistake isn’t absurd either. And when using certain add-ons, such as Aux, it’s very easy to list silver instead of gold, since you enter the price in the first line using prefixes like g\s\c.

That is a lot of AI... lets hope it is just an AI translator. Also Vasiliy205 is Crazyrogue from a second account so that is fun.

"I know exactly what happened with the auction. My friend had been selling the same items for silver many times before. This time he accidentally listed one stack for **28 gold instead of 28 silver**, and someone bought it. We were all surprised when it actually sold. A few days later he received a permanent ban for allegedly selling gold."

Very interesting that you all supposedly know that they made this typo. It is almost like he knew he needed an excuse for where this gold was going to come from and thought this would be a good one, just like this previous gold buyer (https://octowow.st/forum/viewtopic.php?t=838).

"From our perspective, this does not look like gold trading at all. It looks like a simple auction mistake that happened to be exploited by someone else." - who "exploited" this? The gold seller? Idk sounds like a pretty straight forward deal not an exploit.

"If this was truly considered suspicious, removing the gold or issuing a warning would have been much more reasonable than permanently banning an active player." - that may fly on other servers, but we are not tolerating RMT.

"This situation has affected our entire group. We came here to play together, and now several of us are questioning whether we should continue investing our time if an honest mistake can result in a permanent ban." - that is unfortunate, but do know that such an honest mistake will not result in a permanent ban.

"Please take another look at this case and review all the available logs before making a final decision. We believe you will see that this was not intentional gold trading." - I have personally reviewed the logs (along with another dev of course) and we can confirm he 100% bought gold there is no doubt in either of our minds this cannot be denied the excuse that they accidentally listed then and then a gold seller just happened to buy this specific auction falls flat with any digging at all.

"Am I correct in understanding that I could get anyone in the game banned simply by sending them gold or buying their item at an inflated price on the auction house?" - no you are not correct. You can get anyone banned though if you go onto an RMT website, sell thousands of gold there, and then start randomly looking for overpriced auction items and wasting your own gold to ban random people that you don't know, so be careful!

"you aren't thoroughly analyzing accounts before issuing permanent bans—even Blizzard is more lenient with players in such matters." - I am telling you that we are, you can trust your friend if you want, but they are lying to you if they are telling you they did not buy gold. And yes blizzard is more lenient than we are with RMT... not sure if that is a direction you really want to take this conversation though

We determined it by looking at the logs I have explained it plenty if you don't want to read that is fine. If you find an item for 100g and re-sell it for 1500g that will not get you banned unless you pay IRL money for it. You don't need to worry about overpricing something that will not result in a ban unless you overprice something, then pay someone IRL to go and buy that thing. It is not ambiguous.

I have been made aware it is a bit easier with some addons to make the mistake, good thing that has nothing to do with this investigation and is not weight bearing in our determination that they 100% bought gold!

Also they did not use the gold for their friends they only got time to spend 6g of it and all of that was spent on themselves. Oh and "I have repeatedly sold items like this," is just a blatant lie you have not sold a single item for more than 1g before now.

Lets stop with the bullshit, make a new account if you want to stay here, or go to another server that will let you buy gold, idc either way but stop lying and saying stupid shit.
Sincerely,
Kestrel
