The state of moderation is a problem

I've seen so many posts about how chat is oh so wildly out of control, chat is saying things I don't like, the people I don't like are allowed to make slightly edgy jokes and adult humor, whatever the complaint of choice is for that day, but the way it is being handled is completely one-sided. It is just double-standards and moderations on the whim of how that particular GM feels about certain topics, not based on the actual rules of the server.

For example, the people who complain the most and the loudest are the ones throwing out insults such as: chud, incel, white trash/trailer trash, deplorables, dregs, nazi, fascist, alt-right, groyper, trumpanzee, trumptard, trumpests, magats, racist, bigot, transphobe, homophobe, neckbeard, basement dweller, mouth breather, garbage, etc.

These go unpunished and are viewed as acceptable and non-offensive. Yes, I've seen people post legitimately highly offensive things occasionally, but the people who do so are a very, very slim minority. I've seen one actual racial slur since I joined 2 months ago. One. I've seen hundreds and hundreds of insults towards the "edgy" people and that's kosher I guess.

Personally, I don't really care what people say. Egregious behavior, racial slurs, legitimately being abusive to others (not normal shit talking, friendly banter - easily distinguishable) should be met with a mute, I don't think most people would disagree with that. That is how most of the internet works.

The issue is the double-standards. Why are slurs towards people who aren't this type of person acceptable but the inverse isn't? Why do people like me get muted for just shit talking in chat with friends, having perfectly tame conversations, not attacking anyone directly, nor any racial groups or whatever? We play with these same people all day everyday, we talk shit, we joke. None of it is intended to cause harm. And how is "goy" an instant mute every single time and none of those are? Are we really concerned about offending someone in the genocidal ethnostate of Israel? The night shift GM seems to be particularly egregious with this. I don't know a single person who finds that offensive regardless of how they think otherwise. It doesn't target or attack or marginalize anyone. It's self-deprecating humor.

I digress.

Moderation should be handled on a legitimate rules bases, not the whim of the person doing, not for "wrongthink" but based on the actual content moderation policy. Do it equally. Why is that so hard? Over moderation and punishing players because you don't like them will kill this server faster than not moderating the chat at all.

I know this is not TurtleWoW anymore, but Turtle handled this just fine. It was basically never an issue. They enforced the rules equally across the board, not based on their own personal beliefs, whims or feelings that night or how they feel about a particular player.

Yes the mute button has always been the answer ifyou dont like what someone is saying. This has been the answer since the internet started.

I find the constant server messages telling me what I can and cant say to be more annoying than even kejsu was. Id mute them too if it didnt want to know if a server restart was coming. The messages remind us constantly that even in the game im trying to enjoy I have to be reminded of the thought police.

If I ever meet someone from the genocidal ethnostate of occupation, I will appreciate them with all my strength, and no moderation will be able to stop me. I trust that things are not as serious as you say, but those people should feel all the love they deserve every single day of their lives
