Moving to an Unreal Engine–based client would be the best thing that could happen to the server. There are several compelling reasons to make the transition:

1. Access to modern technologies, including the ability to seamlessly switch between the classic visuals and an updated graphical style.
2. Much better compatibility with modern PC hardware and operating systems.
3. A significantly easier and more flexible modding environment.
4. The current 1.12.1-based client is fundamentally outdated. Its 32-bit architecture imposes strict memory limitations that are becoming increasingly problematic.
5. The modified 1.12.1 client continues to suffer from recurring Errors #124, #131, and #132, largely due to poor compatibility with modern hardware. These issues can seriously affect stability and the overall gameplay experience.

For the long-term future of the project, moving to a modern client would provide a much more stable and sustainable foundation.

Yeah , i hope the dev team thinks about this. Also seems like the unreal Azeroth team has taken precautions not to be taken down by blizzard as well .
also , making mods or plugins with unreal seems to be much easier as well .

I personally don't want unreal engine and I don't care about HDR Bloom SSAO Shader whatever that will tank my FPS to 20. I have never played a single UE5 game that ran good. Not a single one, it's a dogshit game engine with horrendeous performance that people only use because it became the industry standard. WoW graphics are timeless and they still look beautiful to this day because of how stylized they are.

If I had to absolutely pick a new engine for Octo, it would be 3.3.5 or modern Classic client.

The argument that this would make modding “easier “ is pretty insane. You think that having two separate engines that you would need yo update separately would be easier than the duct taping of one engine? It is an interesting idea but there is no need for it and the likelihood of issues is astronomical. Also which version of unreal? Because unreal 5 tends to run like dogshit compared to older engines.

English is not my native language, my post was translated by artificial intelligence.

The game's appearance will remain the same; you won't see any changes in the authenticity of the angular 3D models and textures if you enable Classic mode. Your FPS will actually increase, as all the original models are extremely easy to render using modern technologies. The problem with most modern UE5 games is that developers don't optimize the rendering of highly detailed 3D models.
The 3.3.5 client is a good option, but it's also maral but outdated, just like 1.12.1. It's just a little more optimized. In fact, speaking of WoW clients, it would be great to see the game play on the 1.14 client. There are already successful methods of playing with a modern 1.14 client on servers running the original 1.12.1 vanilla.

Modern games on UE5 work terribly, because developers do not optimize processing of highly polygonal 3d models. in WoW there are no such models and all this will work fine.

It looks great, and fun I'll give it that. But I would rather the option of what we currently have AND that. Not one or the other.
You can choose old polygraphics if you want to. Or use the new style.
It should be an optional download too, not directly implemented, cause that'd not be something I'd willingly want on my computer if I have no intention of using it. Otherwise, I'd be totally fine if it were implemented

Let’s try the emberveil server first shall we. It opens in the 15t me this month :) .

As some people say, unreal runs bad, this has to do with the developers, some games run really smooth in ue5…
Then again some of y are grumpy old rocks not fond of change it sounds like , lol.
and who won’t like the proximity voice chat where you can run or ride by people and say hello , cheers or top of the day!.

I have now leveled up to lvl 12 on emberveil , and yes it runs so much better. I had my laptop with an i7 4th gen with NVIDIA 860M , streamed the game with 40-60 fps for 10 hours. I could not do this in the 32 bit client. Please devs respond , I don’t want to stop playing on octo but the pull of the 64 bit client is enough to make a 100% switch.
