I did another fresh install on a different drive and was now able to access mail. Issue appears to have been on my end.


When i click the mailbox on my bank alt it crashes the client. Doesn't seem to do this on my other characters. I tried a fresh install and the issue remains

Tried with no addons?

I assume you have a heavy load in the mailbox. Sometimes it can take a very long time to load, like up to 2 minutes and during this time the game is frozen.

You shouldn't crash though. Click mailbox and don't do anything else until it open/load.

Also try in a low populated area, preferably at quiet hours.

I moved out of org and tried opening at sparkwater, still fresh install no addons. I let it sit for 5 min at the open mailbox screen with no change. The second i click the mailbox, the panel opens and the client locks up. Any other button i press caused the client to close completely. I have 28 items mostly returned from the AH in my inbox so nothing crazy. This has me stumped ive never had this issue before.

i think reinstall/cleaning cache is actually a bad idea here as what causes the client to freeze is very likely having to fetch information on all the items/auctions.

i don't know of any way to "pre-load" the mailbox content.

if it is items that is stuck in the mailbox, it may help to get those items into cache if you remember what items it is.

and im curious if connection might be an issue. high ping already? behind vpn? able to test on a different computer?

the server is really struggling to spit out info and that is what you are combating i believe.

may actually be your own connection timing out and not server.

I play from NA so my ping usually sits in the 150 range. I don't play from behind a vpn. I'm playing on my other characters atm without any noticeable lag or high ping. The pc I'm using is a 5600x 32gb of ram and a 3060 12gb on windows 11. I don't have another to try with. I could possibly try on a virtual machine but that seems like a lot of effort. Tbh id probably just delete the character and remake it at this point and take the 10-15g loss but i assume id have to wait 30days for the mail to expire first and that would be annoying. I can send and receive mail on my other characters without issue.

do make a ticket on the issue. GM should be able to empty the mailbox for you. it is most likely a connection/communication issue. it is widely known to, just not as severe as you report.

an alternative let a friend across the pond or at least with a different ISP and better ping try for you if you can trust one, im sorry if i should not suggest account sharing here.

idk if devs have said anything on the issue. do a search in the bugtracker and forum on mailbox, you shouldn't be the first with this issue. and it is a known issue, problem is you don't seem to "get through with the server communication" at all. where the problem actually sit idk. it could even be the deep ddos protection turtle had to create.

i have personally had multiple 2 minute freezes upon opening mailbox and my ping is below 50. i assume you get disconnected, not actually crashing.

GM really should fix or at the very least look at some logs and reimburse your loss.

I fixed it. was an issue on my end after the fresh install. Best guess an mpq file got corrupted during download somehow. I reinstalled fresh a 2nd time on a different drive and the problem disappeared. Thanks for all your help.
