Can't "allow through antivirus" on Linux (installed launcher through WINE)

Hello,

After the newest update, I can no longer launch OctoWoW.

OS: CachyOS (arch based linux distro)
Wine version: wine-10.0-20260425 (CachyOS)

My preferred method of handling the game is initially downloading the standalone client, adding it to steam so that steam's version of dxvk (proton) is used, and then installing the launcher via WINE and pointing the official OctoWoW launcher to the standalone client for updates and managing tweaks, addons, and mods. I would then start the standalone client through steam after the launcher had done it's work.

Previously, there were no issues with the client or launcher. However, after the update I have a message stating that OctoWoW could not be allowed through antivirus. Attempting to use the "Allow through antivirus" setting in the launcher does not work, the standalone client will silently fail to start, and trying to launch via the launcher gives the error "spawn UNKNOWN". I have also verified the games files, with no integrity issues, and the issue persists.

Try using GE-Proton
I had a different issue than you are, but who knows, maybe it'll help you as well

I have used pretty much every version of proton on the list, and none of them work unfortunately...

Hello,

Im using CachyOS as well, but unlike you im using Lutris to play the game and i dont use the launcher, i use VanillaFix.exe to start the game. There was a post from turtle how to setup it, dont know if its needed, but i did follow that and tbh it works pretty well.

https://turtle-wow.fandom.com/wiki/Play ... w_on_Linux

I copied all the new patches+wow.exe to the install folder under Lutris installation (its like \drive_c\wow woltk\data) and game runs with all my installed .dlls, just the quest max number is showing 20. Can pickup 21 quests tho.

Edit: Atm using GE-Proton latest in settings, havent tested anything else since that works.

Hello all, thank you for the replies.

There have been a few Launcher updates and I'm now on 1.3.7, but the issues have not resolved.
I have tried the latest Proton-GE (11-5 at the time of posting), but it has not fixed anything.
I see that TurtleWoW has a Lutris entry, but I'd really rather prefer to handle it all in the OctoLauncher if possible :(

update:

I completely deleted the client files and re-installed through the launcher, and this fixed the issue for me :)
