Nightfall crafting dispute – looking for the community's opinion

I would like to hear what the community thinks about this situation.

I needed Nightfall crafted and gave Duskii all the required materials. No crafting fee or price was discussed or agreed upon beforehand.

After crafting the axe, the handover stalled. During the conversation, Duskii himself stated:

“we didnt discuss a price”
“was just gonna take what you tip”
“I usually charge 30-40g”

I told him that he had never mentioned this before I gave him the materials. Eventually I left the group and told him to do what he felt was right with the axe.

He then mailed my Nightfall to me with 20g COD.

I contacted GM Ulisees because my understanding of the OctoWoW rules is that a price should not be imposed after a transaction has already taken place.

The GM's position was that I should have asked about the fee beforehand, and therefore treated the situation as my mistake.

I completely accept that asking beforehand would have prevented the situation. However, that works both ways: if I cannot assume the craft is free, how can the crafter assume I agreed to pay a price that was never communicated to me?

I'm not arguing that Duskii should have been forced to craft Nightfall for free. My issue is specifically that he accepted my materials, crafted the item, and only afterward introduced a price.

I've attached the complete conversation with Duskii and my subsequent conversation with the GM so people can judge the situation for themselves.

Do you think the GM handled this correctly according to OctoWoW's rules?

If you just want my opinion you are in the wrong. Obviously should have discussed beforehand, but that you give them the materials and are "surprised" they want something to make your 500g axe and make a post about 5% of the cost says something.

Sounds like blackmail/extortion with gm assistance. U cant hold people mats hostage for gold u didnt ask for before crafting.
Yes what buyer did is rude. Mistake of crafter is crafting and then asking for something after while extorting the person to get his mats/item back.
Irl this would result in a criminal investigation against the people extorting.
Gm should have either told guy not to extort. Or delete the item and give buyer hismats back.

This is horrible. GM's dropped the ball on this one.

So we can avoid discussing pricing and then out of nowhere charge someone whatever price? insane.

You are the one asking for the craft and trading before confirming anything, you decided to put yourself in that compromising position, whether they extorted you or not I would say you're more at fault (20g fee is very fair). I give it 70/30 fault, as you should've confirmed before trading. Also after the fact Reporting to the GM to "Ban them" when you willingly traded without asking. The Tip here is to ask before trading, on both sides.

I saw screenshots of the conversation if other people don't understand the context.
Edit: After reading more of your screenshot conversation with the GM I believe you were trying to maliciously use the GM to extort the crafter for a free craft. I believe you knew what you were doing and wanted it for free. GM 100% handled this correctly.

This is an issue of the norms of how crafters are paid. Honestly all crafters should take the fee/tip upfront so this kind of incident doesn't happen, and people don't expend time and energy dealing with those who want things made for them for free. I don't know why the usual process became "trade mats -> craft -> trade crafted item for the gold" but it should probably stop.

Still, how you got to 60 without learning this, I don't know.

For the specific incident, and per your own screenshot (pasted at the bottom):
- You did not negotiate with him
- You told him to "do what he felt was right with the axe.", then left the group and ran away
- He could have just taken the axe and auctioned it, but he COD'd it to you for less than he quoted you.
- You then ran to a GM and - importantly - did not ask for the items back, you immediately asked for him to be banned

PS: As a side note, claiming you are "broke" as a hunter is hilarious.

The crafter tried to solve it, you were acting like a d-word. That is my view.

You're right, but it wasn't the crafter trying to scam

no tbf not giving a tip is kinda shit thing, but doesnt give the crafter the right to hostage/extort as counter action.
