I'd take the time to read the pop-up if I were you, you may notice the issue. With the info on there the solution is very straight forward.

Are you running this on Windows? VanillaFixes (https://github.com/hannesmann/vanillafixes/releases) performs a few self tests when it first runs. This is the one causing it

That function it's calling literally just looks for where the *icd.json files are located, returns a file-descriptor to point to it if it finds it. They look something like this

This is on FreeBSD running WINE but the principal is the same. You're looking for something to the effect of <graphics card I own>_icd.i386.json

Those come form Vulkan. I'm not very familiar with Windows systems, haven't used one since I was a kid, but check to see if you have the right Vulkan drivers.

Here's what I did. Open the folder where your game lives and delete the D3D9.DLL file. Then open the game from INSIDE the folder using VanillaFixes.exe, not the launcher. If you use the launcher, it just replaces the DLL every time. You will open your game from inside the main folder from now until you can run the Vulkan software which your older video card doesn't support. You can download the game again to get new patches, but you'll have to delete the DLL again each time.

That removes the stability that DXVK offers though. I would solve the missing Vulkan driver issue first

For reference you should be able to pass an environment variable to the loader at run time to point it to wherever the icd file is

This one specifically

VK_ICD_FILENAMES=$HOME/.i386-wine-pkg/usr/local/share/vulkan/icd.d/radeon_icd.i386.json

That's for a unix based system with an AMD gpu but you can modify it for whatever file path that you have. Should fix it.

I have an RX580 that does not recognize Vulkan at all. I couldn't find a workaround. The graphics in towns are the only problem, and they do stutter. But out in the wild, there's no complex layered geometry, so it doesn't affect it. It works, that's all I'll say.

Ahh yeah I hadn't considered actually having an older card as those are starting to get quite rare these days.

It really is amazing how easy it is to identify the problem, and often resolve, just by reading these popup windows...

No lie, I was crashing about 15 seconds after logging in on a character, the little window popped up, it said my addons were using more than (I think 40MB memory), and instructed me to open the addons window and check a box, I did exactly that... In about 60 seconds total, ran good as new...
