Herb drop rates from lashers in DME

Does anyone else get the feeling that, following yesterday's update, the herb drop rate from Lashers in DME is WAY lower than it was on Turtle WoW in patch 1.18.1, even though it was supposed to become the same?

In a single run, I only got 2x Plaguebloom, 1x Gromsblood, 1x Dreamfoil, and 1x Golden Sansam from the high-level herbs. Drop rates like that turn raid prep into a real part-time job, lol.

Before the update, the drop rates really looked increased, but honestly, they seemed closer to what they were in 1.18.1.

I might be mistaken, since the rewards from the daily and weekly "Call to Arms" quests were an additional source of herbs, but we don't have those quests right now.

1 run means absolutely nothing

Agree it seems quite a bit lower now than i ever saw on Turtle. Or any other server.

I have mixed feelings though, as it will likely help boost herb prices. Bit too early to say but i've already noticed an increase in gain from some herbs.

That said i never really saw DME farming as a problem.
Nor can never remember a time it was this low on Turtle.

In fact Turtle boosted herb drops when they nerfed the amount of grey items dropping, granted that was a long time before 1.18.1.

And since the Turtle wow forum is now down i can't check the patch notes to see if it really was nerfed in the last patch. Was it?

If it happend then it was in the very last one though or i would have noticed but i took a break just before that patched launched, then came the shut down notice. So i didn't really play the patch much.

Regardless if that was the case or not. I feel it makes most sense to have the rates as they were for the bigger part of Turtles lifespan imo.

But i can live with this too, i am not a big DME farmer these days, just did some testing post patch.

The weekly quest rewards is another discussion, and should prob have polls to decide if they go with the same rewards or not.
They broke the economy on more than a few things, more than lashers ever did imo. But in the end cheap is better than overpriced economy on any wow server imo. And the quests did more good than bad imo.

I partly agree, although even a single run involves a fair number of lashers, so it does give you a certain idea. But the thing is, I’ve already seen comments from other players who did far more than one run, and on average, their results were... actually a bit worse :D

Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts!

We probably need to wait and see just how much prices rise. Perhaps a lower drop rate and the absence of weekly quests as a source of all kinds of stuff (including herbs) will actually improve the economy, although it seemed to me that the TWoW (specifically Tel Abim, where I played) economy was fine overall. We’ll see. The reason I posted this thread in General asking "how do the drop rates feel after the update?" rather than in Suggestions asking to roll back is that I suspect this might be not a bad move, although I don't understand the reasoning behind it.

We did mention it in the patch notes here

https://octowow.st/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1174

"Herb drop rates from the lashers and treants of Dire Maul East have been reduced to turtle wow 1.18.1 levels"

But worth mentioning, we were able to confirm the herb drop rates from turtle wow using data scraped from the turtlehead database. The 1.17.2 version that we inherited had the pre nerf version of the lashers in.

As part of our progress towards full 1.18.1 parody we are implementing changes like this that were perhaps less than popular on Turtle WoW and I have no doubt some will feel the same here.

None of these changes are irreversible, but we do feel like this is a change that makes sense for the server. Perhaps Turtle overly nerfed them, that is something we may visit to find a better middle ground in the future but it will likely remain in the current 1.18.1 Turtle state for the near future until we have more time to evaluate things like this, and collect data on how it may impact the game and economy.

have u taken into consideration, that when Turtle nerfed the Herb drop rates from Lashers
they also implemented the weekly quests, which awarded lootboxes (with chance for flasks etc)?

Yeah, now I’m 100% certain that those lootboxes gave me the false impression that the drop rates were higher. In reality, both sources provided herbs, which is why my bank alt was quite well-stocked with them.

Those quests will be returning in a later phase of the game, but our main focus is restoration, stability, and internal tooling for the near future. The economy is something we are sensitive to but feel this change (aligning with 1.18.1) will only improve the economy in our view. If things get out of hand perhaps we will look at adding those quests back earlier rather than later but that is not what we have seen in the (very short) time since this change.
