Profession benefits

I think it would be great to make profession benefits for its owners (e.x. mixology for alchemist, self enchanting etc) like it was in wotlk

Could someone please explain what this entails exactly? Thanks!

Familiarize yourself with how it was in WotLK. If this is implemented (hopefully), it's up to the devs to synergize it with the lore and balance it.

Here's what ChatGPT says about it:

In Wrath of the Lich King, each primary profession provided a unique personal bonus in addition to its normal crafting or gathering features. These bonuses were designed so that every profession offered a similar overall power level, but in different ways.

Examples include:

Blacksmithing: Two extra gem sockets.

Jewelcrafting: Access to stronger unique gems.

Enchanting: Exclusive ring enchants.

Leatherworking: Stronger bracer enchant.

Inscription: Stronger shoulder enchant.

Alchemy: Longer flask duration and improved flask effects.

Engineering: Unique glove, cloak, and boot tinkers with utility or temporary stat boosts.

Tailoring: Special cloak embroideries.

The purpose of these bonuses was to make professions part of character progression rather than just a way to make gold or craft items.

Pros

Gives every profession an additional purpose beyond making gold or crafting gear.

Makes professions feel like part of character progression.

Encourages players to level and keep professions.

Adds another layer of character customization, as different professions provide different bonuses.

Cons

Players may feel pressured to choose professions based on performance rather than preference.

Some professions can become significantly more popular than others if their bonuses are perceived as stronger.

Switching professions to optimize a character becomes more common, increasing the cost and inconvenience for players.

Can reduce profession diversity, as competitive players tend to gravitate toward the "best" options.

Adds another balance consideration, since profession bonuses need to remain roughly equal in value.

I think the production professions (lw/bs/engi/alch/tailor/jc) shouldn't provide passive benefits, the benefit should be the ability to use the best gear created by those professions.

The gathering professions (mining, skinning, herbing, ench, fishing?) however could be an interesting place to add some permanent character buffs by way of some epic expensive gold sink of a quest.

Stats like hit chance crit and haste would be very cool but would probably be too impactful. It would be a massive pain to have to relevel a profession because you went over the hit cap or you want to min-max a measly 1% crit or something.

I think it would work best if it were on tertiary stats like a 1% increase in movement speed or health or vampirism or something that's appealing to every class but also small and not super relevant

It has to be said that this is happening nowadays with Engineering being the only competitive option by a mile. Which is sad. So any kind of way to make the others even alternatives and somehow viable is a HUGE W!

There are so many ways this can go and be implemented. Almost anything they do will be an improvement, and with the devs current track record I have absolutely zero doubt they'll ace it 8-) 8-)

I can definitely sign onto the profession buffs but only if they are tied to having matching professions.

Like Mixology only works if you have Alchemy AND herbalism.

Otherwise you will have a push for people to make gathering alts to min/max their actual character which defeats much of the purpose.

Add more information to the question I asked further up in the thread instead of whining about chatgpt with no further input beyond that. Tell us more about profession benefits from memory or from your preferred source.
