DLL entry point returned an error (0).

With a fresh install from launcher and with default settings I get the following error when I try to play:

Code: Select all

DLL entry point returned an error (0).

Make sure you have a compatible game client (1.6.1-1.12.1).
I can manually launch the game from WoW.exe but launching from VanillaFixes.exe or the launcher results in the above error.

I tried replacing the VanillaFixes.exe files with the one from the VanillaFixes github but the error remained.

I tried replacing the d3d9.dll with the x32 version obtained here but the error remained (this was suggested on the Discord).

I tried turning the dxvk option off in the launcher but the error remained.

Anyone know what causes this and how to fix it?

Some DLLs in the dlls.txt causes this. For me for example, it was caused by nampower.dll and when I removed it from the list I could start the game just fine. Why some libraries break the game I am not sure.

Hm, removing nampower.dll from dlls.txt didn't fix the error for me, but I tried removing everything besides SuperWoWhook.dll and then the game was able to launch via VanillaFixes.exe.

added back nampower.dll - game still launches via VanillaFixes w/ no error.
added back UnitXP_SP3.dll - game still launches via VanillaFixes w/ no error.
added back VanillaMultiMonitorFix.dll - gives DLL entry point error.
added back VfPatcher.dll - game still launches via VanillaFixes w/ no error.
added back VanillaHelpers.dll - game still launches via VanillaFixes w/ no error.
added back transmogfix.dll - game still launches via VanillaFixes w/ no error.
added back ClassicAPI.dll - game still launches via VanillaFixes w/ no error.

So for me it was VanillaMultiMonitorFix.dll seemingly breaking VanillaFixes. Maybe others can try removing this from their dlls.txt to see if fixes the DLL entry point error for them?

Strangely VanillaMultiMonitorFix.dll still works in my original OctoWoW install. Just not in this install from the launcher. I wonder if a newer version of SuperWoW or some of these other mods are conflicting with it somehow?

I'm also getting the error message about a DLL entry point error..
For me it actually seems to be caused by nampower.dll. As soon as I remove it the launch works fine via VanillaFixes.
I also don’t have any other mods (like no1600x1200 or dxvk) enabled in OctoLauncher...

I hope it's not the final solution to play without nampower... would be great if anyone has any ideas about this.

i have monitorfix too. it worked for me from day one no problems. what you do is you only update the game through the launcher never launch the game through the launcher. when you edit your config file make it read only after. disable windowed mode disable smooth mouse smooth shading disable level of detail and always start game with vanillafixes. you will never have problems. i play with all mods and all proectreforged hd patches. no problem ever. but look i can still see you have problems cuz this turtle client is ish... i have same mods and tweaks on kronos and no problems too. can it be that you guys use linux???

you have to play with nampower even i from eu with 60ms which is bad have to play with nampower even if you have 20 ms to the server you need nampower. nampower fixes a lot more beyond just latency spellcasting. i posted above dont relie on the launcher to update your dlls. and mods. only update the game when they patch it but never launch the game through the launcher.
